+1 for Facewest – excellent shop.

As above not much good with shovel and probes to dig someone out with but they could potentially save your life if you wear one. If with a group and I know I’m going off piste all day I’ll take all the gear. If its snowed a bit but im not planning on going off piste (much) and not with a group then I just wear my transceiver alone.

I imagine most/all piste security guides will use a transceiver to find people as a first resort, if your buried without one try to get knocked unconsciousness and wee yourself!

Not sure if this still applies but several years ago a piste security guy got buried and died. He had a transceiver and so did the people looking for him but they didn’t find him in time – turns out he had his phone on and it confused the signal.

I have an Ortovox one but never used it in anger. I believe they all operate on the same frequency so should be fine anywhere in the world.

Requirement – knowing how to use it. Get a well known and reliable brand.

You should try to do a course if possible or at the very least practice with them.

I recently tried flats for the second time. The first time I just used running trainers and hated it. This time I bought some second hand AM41 off here and some cheap V8s.

Loved it – felt much more fun and engaging on the downs but harder on the ups and not as comfortable. Took about 2 hours to get used to but don’t feel as confident on jumps etc. I think I’ll continue to use both.

I have a covert. There is no way its 26lb but for me its not the kind of bike you weight (I’ve never weighed any), its a bike I want to be able to hammer downhill, jump and then climb to the top without too much extra pain.

Agree that its very easy to get on with, angles seem well sorted and the backup from Transition is excellent.

Hopefully lots of riding in between. Road for fitness, mtb for fun. 2012 goal is to be able to do a whip.

Went for enchiladas and chips from the local cafe and some orangeade. Hopefully it will do the trick!

Walking into town now. Chips and mushy peas sounds tempting.

Also found a card receipt from a bar I’d forgotten we went to – I think it might have been the magic 10 pints last night!

Can I stomach a pastie? It might be worth the risk.

I can’t drink poweraide, not touched the stuff since the 2009 Great North Run. They were giving the stuff out like it was going out of fashion and I couldn’t resist.

Feel sick at the thought of a Macies. Can’t booze as driving home and think even a shandy would put me over the limit.

ODI Ruffians here. Worth the extra cost over the cheaper copies imo.

Sancho – Do you not feel like the shock will bottom out at that pressure? I think I have the high volume can and it seems softer compared the my old standard one.

Very nice, welcome to the club!

Out of interest what pressure are you running in the rear shock? I’m 13 stone with kit on and finding 210psi about right but in my head it seems too high.

Also I’d helitape it – paint rubs off fairly easily.

+1 for NFU Mutual. I have 2 bikes including a £3k one under my home contents insurance and it costs £240 a year for everything. They cover for personal liability and also for breakages on itemised (eg bikes) items.

I have made one claim with them – all sorted within two weeks and most of that time was me getting replacement quotes.

I don’t think it will effect you but you might be able to pursue ebay and make him sell.

Spoilt for choice in todays market especially at Nomad price range.

I have a covert built up with X9, SLX, Saint brakes (200mm rotors), Hope Hoops, Lyriks Solo Air. No idea how heavy it is but it copes fine with 50km xc in the dales. 2011 frames can be had for around £1k if you shop around, only difference in 2012 is the 12mm rear and colours.

Please don’t get one though as they are becoming too common!

I’d also look at the Trek Slash.

Yes need to buy the 10mm conversion kit for the rear hub – thru one, not bolt in if using a SS 10mm qr.

Strange reason to discount possibly the best option when your spending that sort of cash.

Saints all the way or possibly magura.

I’ve tried the hope equivilent to saints and they were no where near performance wise.

Haha. I just wanted to know if anyone has done it on the covert and what different they felt it made.

Not convinced about those bolt in ones, heard they come undone.

I don’t have the evo hubs. Also not convinced about the QR mechanism on those SS ones, rather have bolt up and heard Hadley are the best.

I have new 2012 solo airs and they came 170mm as default, had to be spaced down to 160mm travel.

Ring loco or tf tuned, they will probably know.

    2007 Model

It had a hard life and I don’t blame manufacture issues for the crack.

Large should be the right size for you. I replaced mine with a Transition Covert and whilst the covert is better its not my much imo.

Very fun bike that is massively capable. I’d want a warranty though unless it is dirt cheap.
