I have one, 3 friends also have them and none of ours have failed. Riden DH trails in the alps and most places in the UK and the meta 5 has never failed me.

Would like to know what the actual % of cracked frames are and how many of them are due to manufacturing issues.

Bought my Hope hoops with flow rims from winstanlys. Out of stock but still came in 4 working days.

Saw a fair few 2010 commencals in mrozine the other week and some of the riders were pretty average so must be coming out here soon.

Ring Steve at Real Cycles, he'll prob know.

You might be looking at the straight pull ones instead of the standard.

Go with the flows or 5.1's then. Take about a week to deliver from winstanleys as they are not in stock.

Just tried to open the hub up from the none drive side and no joy. When I turn the outermost nut it just rotates but does not come off. I think the nut has been compressed on during the incident and threaded it.

    Hub a write off?

Dont want to spend money on it in the LBS as would rather put money towards new wheels.

I have K18 and they seem to be very hit or miss. After a week in the alps I have decided to change to something like the Saints when money allows.

At times the K18 were very good and I think they are fine/good for XC stuff in the UK but for DH they just dont cut it.

Get the Saints and let me know what they are like.

Right, ill try and open it up tonight. If the hub is not fixable I'm getting a new wheel – don'f fancy paying £60 for a rebuild or trusting myself to do it. Quite fancy the possibility of a bolt through rear anyway!

So if I get it open and its the cups how much is a wheel rebuild likely to cost in my LBS?

I actually serviced the hub in question a few months ago but a week in the alps and a jetwash (and maybe my servicing skills) got the better of it!

QR was not seized, I think its the bearings inside but not sure if it has damaged anythhing else. Can you buy spare parts eg axles for shimano hubs?

I think the frames are fine is you stick to the right travel fork and use it for its intended purpose.

My 2007 meta is still going strong after 2 years of abuse including an alps trip where we mostly rode DH courses.

Some people on hear just spout out what the mags say and dont like Commencal anymore becuase their cool factor has gone down.

Their T’s are about right on the sizing, the FRD Slim fit is apparently like their T’s (getting one delivered tomorrow so I hope they are). I think the loose cut stuff is large though.

Generally big I think but might depend on what fit you go for.

White water rafting sounds good, prob want something fairly active but I dont like heights so trying to avoid climbing!

Climb badly! Complete opposite for me – so much grip from the rear suspension.

I did Mechanical Engineering – pretty broad course contents so it keeps your options open job wise when you finish uni. Found it pretty hard going at times though.

Check out the uni websites and they shoudl break down each sublect a bit more.

If you have the lenses I’d prob go with the canon. I have a sony A200 and am very pleased with it.

The only part that you would benefit from normal mtb tyres is the old coach road, just miss that bit out and put some slicks on – much better for 98% of the ride. I wish I’d done the same when I did it!

Have a gap year or go to uni then.

Still waiting for my formula oro pads from them, over 3 weeks now but to be fair it isn’t really their fault if the supplier hasn;t sent them any.

Another vote for crossmarks, surprised me how good they are on tough terrain. Wouldn’t use one on the front though.

VW (imagine same as audi for servicing) reccomend that you change the cam belt every 40,000 miles or 4 years. Better to spend £300 now than a lot more later.

My local independant garage charge £200 inc VAT.
