iPod – the Genius function is fantastic. Sony a close second for me for build quality.

Done it with a Meta 55 – handled everything we rode but we didn't do many of the blacks – they looked pretty mental!

I think your superlight would be ok is you took is steady but thats not really the point so if you have the cash buy a second hand DH bike and sell when you ge back.

I work in Leeds and the only work going around is goverment funded stuff like schools and hospitals.

If the course is a 4 year one then should be better by then and its a fairly diverse degree to have.

If you want large capasity then your forced to buy iPod. I've had both – current iPod Classic and an old HD5 sony.

    iPod:
    Large capasity
    Easy to use
    Good sound quality
    Wide range of accessories

    Sony
    Slightly better sound quaility
    Bullet proof, will last longer

Dainese are good but expensive. I have a Demon one that has straps and a waist band. Don't notice I'm wearing it tbh. Ebay might be worth a look.

Its never a bad thing to have on just incase but only really worth it if your hitting the park or powder or pushing yourself.

I use mine in the alps for DH, wouldn't use it in the UK.

Salomon, Giro, RED, Protec, Bern are all good brands with a style to suit most people. Watch out for the Bern "Hard Hat" ones, not actually tested to any standards.

Obviously better to try on first if poss and check goggle compatability (sunglasses and a helmet is a big no-no)! Online is cheaper so may be worth a punt (all companies will have sizing charts).

Best place for ski/snowboard stuff is ebay. Some bargains out there if you know what your looking for.

Dont be fooled into thinking you need super tech outerwear for skiing, anything of 5k or above waterproof/breathability will be fine as its pretty dry normally. Baselayers are a good investment if you dont already have some. Proper socks – yes.

Fit – Baggy for movement/style although some of the cool kids are now wearing skinny fit sytle pants!

Baselayer, t-shirt, hoody, jacket will be fine for most conditions. I'm a bit fan of long-johns too!

    If its bad get physio.

I did mine 13 months ago playing football – went pop. Saw a free NHS physio as a one off and she said it was badly sprained. She said light cycling was ok but after 3 months I played football and went over on it again.

Mine has just about fully healed now but I can still feel it. Looking back I wish I had got physio and left it longer.

I was tempted by the hero but the iPhone re-sellability sold it for me. Just wish Orange had them in stock!

When I'm rich enough I'm definately getting one. Parent have one and they look amazing.

Only bad point is the hot plate on top isn't hot enough all the time (ie when turned down in summer).

You really dont need them. Lost mine well over a year ago, just make sure the bolt is in tight(ish).

Look into hard wiring it from your car stereo's CD changer port. Involves taking out the radio and more expensive but way better.

Shandy – Have a look at few catalogues, most of the the boards have weight catorgaries, wonder why?

Height it misguiding, personal preference and riding style is much more important. As said above flex patterns and board design or as important.

If you want something that will do everything you wont go too wrong with directional twin shaped board.

Weight is more important than height. I would say 160 max for general riding unless you ride powder lots. I'm 5.11 and ride 156 – 158 boards for everything.

Test ride boards from TSA then make your choice, boards prob cheaper here than Europe at the mo anyway.

Also use Gore socks. They are like oversocks but never got wet feet in them, need to use thick socks underneith to keep warm though.

Might have some air trapped somewhere. Try re-bleeding using the syringe method.
