Sports soccer, JJB, sportshoes etc will have some cheap ones I imagine. Go for a good brand. I got some Asics for £40 that I trained for and did a half marathon in no bother.

I’ve had my 1/2W rear light mounted on the seatpost for 2 years of all seasons commuting, never failed or even needed a battery.

I mount my knog frog on my helmet so away from dirt. I think having two lights at different heights greatly improves your viability.

    I can’t see it working

As above the smart 1/2 watt is very good, the 1W must be very bright. I use the 1/2W with a Knog Frog on my helmet and had several positive comments about my viability on the dark roads.

Definitely help. I have the normal compression skins but where them a lot after big rides and football – legs are much better the next day.

But they look better which is the main thing!

I went with the Krylions Carbon in the end. Seemed good reviews, £22 on CRC and they had them in red!

The higher end DHB bibshorts are excellent.

I think your right oldgit. I’m pretty sure I could do it at my own pace but it would be nice to keep up with my mates.

Is that the exhaust management warning light? Is so could be a lamda sensor – about £90 to fix at the local garage and nothing to worry about. Unless like my vw golf it has a nox sensor – £400 to fix but not essential (i’ve not fixed mine).

No food stations but we will take food or stop to buy some. I’ve planned out a 20 mile commute to work on thursday I’ll do if its not raining.

MrSmith – Yes commute is pretty much full pelt on a singlespeed, especially on the way back when its up hill all the way. Agree football isn’t the best recovery but it must be better than nothing.

I’m going to try and fit in a 20 mile commute once a week (on the way to work) and a longer ride at the weekend.

Reason I want to train for it is to keep up with two mates who are fitter than me and to prove a point to them and myself. Turns out the first ride is in a month and its 70 miles – time to get the road bike out again!

We stayed here last year and it was excellent and very bike friendly. Its right next to glentress so you can ride straight there.

I have a gore-tex (gore cross jacket) and its very tough. Had it for years and fallen several times on road and rocks and not a single tear. Sometimes gets a bit sweaty but never that bad and comfortable to ride in all day.

Leeds Brewery Pale ale. Only available to buy in casks unless you live near leeds.

I find Saints with 200mm rotors work pretty well. Unless your bothered about a bit of extra weight why not go big brake & big rotor.

How about getting some full headphones like Seinheiser HD201 or Sony MPD300 (think thats right)? Both pretty cheap and good quality.

Sunline V1 in Ti-Gold! Used to have easton ea70’s 685mm but love the V1 in comparison. I was tempted by the RS ones above though.

Would like to see ISX more available in the UK along with Dakine.

Big hammer, big screwdriver, a vice and a socket set – pretty easy just take your time and don’t use the hammer to put new ones in.

I think you can buy some fancy bearing removal tools to make it easier.

I just took the big ring off a standard SLX chainset and left the 32-11 cassette at the back. I find it absolutely fine for all types of riding.

I try this before buying chainrings and cassettes.

Lenovo (direct) are pretty well priced and customisable. Well made and reliable – just bought one for my dad and its seems good.

I have a sony which has been faultless and very nice to use, might be able to get one for £400 but prob get more for your money elsewhere.

Not a chance I’m doing it myself! I’ll ring a few places tomorrow.

Mmmm, that’s what I was expecting. Sub £300 would be nice though. I’ll ring my usual independent garage and see what they say. Its only just started so hopefully not too much damage but I guess it makes sense to do the whole lot.

There goes my deposit for a new frame this year 🙁

It it worth just getting the whole clutch replaced?

By not cheap what are talking here?

We stayed in a really good B&B last time we went. Can’t remember the name but its was about 500m away from glentress visitors centre towards peebles on the left.
