    Chick watching maybe 😉

It’s done on a fixed wheel exercise bike to music. You control the resistance so you can make it as easy or hard as you want. Basically it’s either spinning fast rpm at low resistance or slogging “up hill” to a high resistance either in or out of the saddle or a mixture of both. A good instructor is essential. The Fitness First gym I go to in Manchester is about 50/50 male/female mix.

I work away from home Monday to Friday and are unable to bring a bike. I go to the local gym and do spinning lessons, I do 4 a week. Not ideal but you can really work hard and build up a sweat for those 45 minutes.

I’ve got a bagaboo in medium size. Mine is camouflage with an orange lining and trim but they are made to order so a more tasteful one could be made. I use a Rapha musette when not carrying much, they are quite small but I love it.

We’ve had one as a second car for nearly 5 years. It’s now done 38k miles but did 30k miles in it’s first year. We’ve not had any problems at all. Does 50+ mpg, £20 year road tax and insurance about £150 a year fully comp. They are city cars but not too bad on motorways. It’ll quite happily cruse at 80 on M62 between Leeds and Manchester, I was using it in the bad weather during December as rwd Mercedes wasn’t fun in the snow!

Not the cheapest car out there but holds onto it’s value well. In a world where you can spend £40k+ on a specc’d up VW Golf the “peoples cars!” it shows cars are getting expensive now.

Avoid the diesel and auto models. I think Andrewh is been rather unfair, you’re forgetting what the car is designed for, cheap city use! Spend more and buy an Audi A1 if you want a small well built city car, and certainly paid for it.

Not got a R2 but have a R4. Really recommend it, great sound for something quite small. Works well with iPod, iPhone 4 and new nano with no problems.

I had a road frame a couple of years ago custom airbrushed by Lawrence aka Kaos here http://www.customshack.co.uk

    Cost me £400 so £50 – £60 is a bargain!

St Ives, went a couple of times last year. Great town to visit and some lovely restaurants.

I personally wouldn’t risk it especially if you are several Kg over. Budget airlines will do anything to part you from your money.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve looked at that website but it doesn’t look very well used. Will post on there and see.

I sent 4 17″ wheels with tyres a couple of years ago to Holland. I just put cardboard on each side then wrapped them in bubble wrap. Sent them individually using DPD, they collected and think it cost about £60 for them all. There are loads of companies online who are agents for sending parcels and can pass on their big discounts. Can’t remember the one I used but just do a search on google.

We had new doors fitted last year, front door is red composite with yale locks and security rated. Cost £800 fitted by a local quality company. Very happy.

there’s a bread bakery on (in?) the shambles, called ‘via vleccia*’ or something.

Go to Via Vecchia at 8am when it opens, it’ll be sold out at 11am.

It is the best bread in York though. I love the cheese one!

I’m live in York so know a thing or two!

Have a walk around the Bar Walls as it’s a good way to see the city, don’t bother with the tour buses. If you want to go to Bettys go to the less well known one down Stonegate called Little Bettys, much shorter ques and as good. Cliffords Tower is ok but after 15 minutes you’ve seen it, like other people have said The Viking Centre is ok if it’s wet, it had a large refit a few years ago and supposed to be better (not been though so can’t judge) York Minster is an impressive building and well worth seeing. If you like trains The National Railway Museum is only 10 minutes walk from the city centre. The best advice is just wander about it’s a compact City. Look for a book called Snickleways of York. These are medieval alleys around the city worth exploring.

For a good restaurants try Fossgate there are quite a few nice ones down there, or go to The Go Down on Clifford Street as favourite of ours. Evil Eye is worth going to for drinks on an evening, huge cocktail menu for you and a good selection of beers for the missus 😉 if you’re into nightclubs go to Toyko on Toft Green, avoid all the others.

I work away Monday to Friday currently sat on a Travelodge bed now writing this on my iPhone! I’m not a contractor so I get very good expenses which makes been away from home worth it. I live within a couple of hours drive of where I’m currently working so I try to go home Wednesday evening. I don’t have any children but are married and the wife doesn’t like me been away but in this current economic climate it’s work. We make the weekends count, except when I go out for the day cycling, doesn’t always go down well. On an weekday evenings I go to the gym and do spinning classes to keep the legs working. I have to sacrifice cycling during the week for work, not happy about that.

Working away isn’t great, it can be quite lonely but certainly for me the money makes it worth while. You’ve got to work out if working away is worth it for you and your personal life. Good luck!

Booked my flight to Majorca, flying with Monarch. They were easily the cheapest at £139 return in April including pre-booking and paying for the bike. Easyjet were about £200 and Ryan Air at £240! All same date for departure and coming home and similar flight times.

Also booked the training camp, after a recommendation going to Dave Le Grys camp based in Pollenca, can’t wait!

What about getting a frame built bespoke? I’ve been looking at Mercian frames and some of them with the hand cut lugs are works of art.

Thanks for the recommendations and advice. Will give Graham Baxter a look.

I’ve been looking at airlines too and out of all the budget companies Easyjet seem to be the better option, what do others think?

Why re-turf? I use a company called Green Thumb. They visit every three months and treat the lawn, seems to work lawn was a mess before treatments. Before they treat they assess what is required and treat accordingly. They also do one offs ie re-seeding but sorry don’t know costs.

Mr Mojo, you seem confused. Are you the man who couldn’t light his coal fire? Petrol and diesel both require air to combust.

No coal fire here, must be someone else.

Petrol and diesel engines work differently with regards to producing power. With petrol the more air you can get into the engine the more power you can create. But with diesels more air doesn’t mean more power, you needs to increase the amount of fuel to increase power.

S2000, great engine, doesn’t get close to the boxster on handling though.

Agree, but the LSD can be fun!

Tsk. Forget that boring little hairdressers car, and buy something Japanese:

Agree…. I had a Honda S2000 too, prefered that over the 3.2S Boxster.

I would go with a clogged particulate filter, needs regenerating. Go for a 30 minute drive with high engine revs.

Do you have a petrol or a diesel? If diesel no point as you won’t gain any performance. Diesels need more fuel for more performance not air like petrol engines. If you have a petrol go for a induction kit like a K&N 57i as this will produce more bhp over a normal panel filter.

Also a cotton gauze or foam filter filters more dust etc than an oem paper filter so no engine damage.

I had a 3.2S 986. Loved it, not the cheapest car to service but Independant Porsche garages are cheaper. Don’t bother with the older 2.5 it has a nasty habit of cracking the cylinder head around the valves, very expensive repair! The later models have sleeves. The facelift 986 is the better one to go for or better still a 3.4S 987! I would personally avoid the 2.7 and get a 3.2, the engine is a peach with lots of grunt, the 2.7 runs out of steam too quickly.
