Are Freeborn going to do you a crash replacement rear?

Think so. Just waiting to hear back about it. Hopefully can just get the seat stay bit. It’s bent, not just dented. Nothing wrong with the other bit.

Typical crap MBR review that. And why would you fit a 90mm stem!?!

    duir – Member

OUCH! Come on then, tell us how you did that, side impact into a sharp rock is my bet.

You’re a genius! Yep it was on Snowdon Rangers path. Just a standard OTB really so I was a bit surprised to manage to do that. I think my weight came down on that side and wrapped the seat stay round some rocks. Also snapped the rear brake hose at the same time so I had to walk the rest of the way down!

Ooooh I shall rush out and buy that immediately.

I can’t ride mine for a bit due to this:-

If you’ve got a pic, I had some 2009 SLs so might be able to tell.

So if I were you I would get a stinger roller from CRC and fit it to the SS plate.

Also I would use some threadlock when you bolt the roller on. Mine unscrewed itself the other day and jumped off.

It’s supposed to ride up on the roller edge. The problem is just that the SS one doesn’t look like the roller is properly designed for that. The Stinger has a wider edge that the chain can sit nicely on rather than trying to slip back down into the groove which I imagine is what would happen with the SS one, from looking at the pic.

Hmmm! You can’t have it out of the way in granny without bending it. They are supposed to be designed to work with double chainsets, hence the stepped roller on the Stinger.

    mr_mills

No the SS one doesn’t have a proper stepped bit that the chain can run on! Tut.

Ah – actually I’ve just looked at the pic of the superstars one and the roller is different. No idea how that could possibly work properly with a granny ring.

It’s basically shit. I would bin it and get a proper stinger :)

Got the blackspire stinger copy on my heckler with an SLX double. To get it to work in teh granny ring i have had to bend the back plate – otherwise it rides up on top of the roller edge.

Eh? If it’s the same as a Stinger the chain is meant to be up on the inner “ledge” of the roller when in granny ring and in the “groove” when in middle. If you’re trying to make the chain sit in the groove when in granny ring you’re doing it wrong!

I had some and they were the same as all the other Shimano shoes I’ve had, i.e. small. I’m a 9 and all the Shimanos I’ve had have been 45 (MT91s, MP66s, AM40s and some RO77 roadie shoes).

I’m not raving about the Dixon quite so much now that this has happened. Wasn’t a particularly bad crash although rocks were involved (Snowdon). The seat stay is knackered.

    Audi: Check
    work in IT: check
    Driving like a nob: check
    40inch waste: 32
    Orange five: check
    Garish colour: check

Chunk wins! Except there’s no way your waist is only 32″ 8O

An Orange 5 would be better, preferably in a ridiculously garish colour. Oh and it needs to be very clean.

damn, I’ve got an audi, a full set of pads and a met parachute. I better start driving like a nob otherwise you would all be disappointed

    You need:-

    Audi (check)
    Pads
    Met parachute helmet
    a 40″ waist (approx)
    a “rig” or “steed”
    a loud voice

I got part of one stuck once and had to just whack it with a hammer and big screwdriver until it fell out (tapered steerer though). Is it stuck or just rattling about in there?

The qualifier is sooooo much easier than it looks!

The first time I saw it I said “no way” too, then the next time I went decided to give it a go. There’s really nothing to it.

I had some of the white ones. The paint started coming off immediately in big chunks and after 8 months they were virtually silver. The pins also got ripped out very easily, damaging the threads so replacements wouldn’t go in properly. Just bought some of the thru-pin ones which were the same price as the normal ones.
