I’ve done it. It’s rubbish as a ride. Boring bridleway, a bit of “Welsh Singletrack” and then an unrideable uphill to the summit with a 100 metre scramble that you’ll never do with the bike on your back. Boots and feet only.

Did you not ride back down again? Not still up there are you?? 8O

Here’s a bike at the summit (yes yes I’ve got a limp wrist etc):-

LL36 9TU is the postcode for the “car park” if anyone’s interested. This will take you a little way past it but you’ll see it opposite the church. There are toilets there too.

I’ve got Endura Zymes that I’ve just had to have repaired for the first time after more than 2.5 years of weekly use.

The 2010 version is £34 from CRC at the moment. I’ve just ordered another pair.

I think there’s a fee but you have the option to pay it yourself instead of them paying it.

What do you call those two shades of blue then? Light one is powder blue and the dark one plasma or electric or something else?

Playing table tennis years ago, I served and the ball caught the very edge of the table on my side and shot up almost to ceiling height, then came down on the other side and did the same again, shooting onto the floor. It looked rather more cool than it sounds when described.

I also did the basketball one at school, scoring from the opposite end of the court. Was gutted I wasn’t given at least 10 points for that (but understandable as the teacher was Scottish).

I’m about 180lbs and I found the purple spring was just right when I had Vanillas.

Here’s me riding on a footpath today. Very sorry.

Mine’s been working perfectly since I did mine 3 months ago too. Normally have to strip / clean / regrease every couple of rides but not any more. Superb upgrade and takes about 1 minute to do.

Joplins are very straight forward to service but you need to put exactly the right amount of oil in. For a Joplin 4 this is 68ml (I think the 55ml mentioned above is for a Joplin 3). I think I put slightly too much in mine as I don’t get the sag problem but can’t quite get the last few mm of travel at the bottom.

If you do try and do it yourself, don’t do what I did and try to add a bit more oil without getting all the air out properly first. 68ml is a LOT when it’s splattered all over your kitchen ceiling.

If you try and pull it along on its wheels it will fall over constantly. I always carry mine over my shoulder instead, but I’m big and ‘ard. You might have to drag it!

Has anybody ever had any positive experiences with these ‘traveling’ types then?

Well no. Obviously not. I used to work in a pub / restaurant type thing with a pikey site not far away. Every so often they would come in and the place would descend into chaos within minutes and empty of normal people soon after. There are good reasons why hotels etc cancel wedding bookings if they find out it’s gyppos!.

Not THAT often I don’t think. I’ve done mine once in over a year.

On the Hope website there’s a video about taking the outer seal off, wiping inside and putting some grease in. You’re meant to do that every so often.

Why does all womens clothing stop at size 12? etc

It should be illegal to be fatter than a 12 :P

Unibond Repair Extreme Power Glue (raargh!) is what I use. For on-trail repairs, the tubeless repair kits that CRC do are great. You can get the sticky brown poo-sticks off ebay without having to buy more of the tools that come in the kit.

I’ve superglued loads of tyres. Get the stuff that you can put on thick then ends up like rubber once it sets.

I changed over last year after only ever riding SPDs. Very weird at first until you get used to not trying to lift the bike up by just pulling on the cleats. You’ll get used to it pretty quickly. I’ve not ridden on SPDs again since changing to flats (apart from on the road bike). You’ll find riding flats much better when doing the downhill type stuff you mention.

Yup – I think it’s pretty common. Is it due to using CO2 to inflate the tyre, which freezes some of the fluid? Not sure.

My LBS changed all the bearings in my SXs for me. They though at first that they may have “special” bearings in but it turned out they were just readily available sizes (I don’t know the codes) and they used a combination of SKF and Hope bearings.

    Yes they all fit 34.9

If you wanted to fit to a smaller tube you use the relevant plastic shim that sticks inside the clamp to make it smaller.

I propose that they sing an appropriate song depending on who they are playing against. Cunningly, this will unnerve the opposition.

For example: Germany = “Dad’s Army theme”

My daughter said she knows what “gay” means.

    Ok tell me…

“It’s someone who talks in a funny voice”

    Where did she learn that?

    Hollyoaks.

    She’s 6.

The SS ones are good anyway. I had some white non-thru-pin ones and all the paint fell off pretty quick and i ripped a few pins out which damaged the holes so the replacement pins wouldn’t go in straight. Now I’ve got some anodized thru-pin ones which are much better.

Adjusting the limit screw on a normal triple front mech will work fine. The difference with the double-specific one is mainly that the shape of the cage matches a 36T chainring.

I’ve got some gold ones from Superstar in mine. They’re not thru-pins but they are fine in the thru-pin pedals.
