I just mentioned it in my LBS and he gave me a length of half-link chain so I used a link from that. Any will do as long as it’s for the correct chain size i.e. 1/8″.

I’ve got a Whippet with 32:16 and I might even have the same chain as you. I had problems getting the chain tension right at first and sorted it by putting a half link in the chain. Worked perfectly.

I often put a tracky / pyjamas on and ride my bike round the streets in the hope of being spotted as a thief and getting on one of these threads, ideally with a picture.

    One day maybe

I love the idea of there being big cats around and there is often pretty compelling evidence. I do however struggle with the fact that we live in an age where Prince Harry can’t even get naked in a private room without being photographed, yet there is never a good photo or CCTV of these beasts. As others have said, you only ever see suspiciously grainy pictures. If that many people are seeing the Beast of Essex, in is bizarre that there isn’t a good image somewhere.

My claim to wild animal fame is that I saw one in Gloucestershire in 2004. It turned out that the area is a particular hotspot for sightings. But surprise surprise I didn’t have a camera in my hand and by the time I had grabbed it, the thing had disappeared into the trees.

(I’m not mental or owt by the way, and definitely wasn’t confusing small / far away – it was big and not very far away).

Wettest I’ve ever been in my life. Most of the skin on my hands has rotted away, but at least I’ve got a nice clean bike and shoes :-)

I got a similar whiplash type injury when some big fat nob head crashed into the back of me. The niggles have been on and off for 3 years now. Must get it looked at!

I’ve been using the same shim with a Joplin for the last year or so. It’s been fine.

Apparently, it’s not a good idea taking anything branded Kona to Portugal, your family, all wearing said T-shirts, may even be asked to leave restaurants(this story from a Paligap employee).

Eek – I just put that into the Google translator thing. At work. It’s spelt “Cona” if you want to try it :-)

I’m about to sell my Dixon frame (medium). It’s about a year old. E-mail me if you’re interested.

I’ve got XTs on another bike and they are good too. Very “on / off” though – like a switch. No experience yet of bleeding them.

I had M4s and they were crap. Easy to bleed but it didn’t make them work any better. Been using R1s for a year or so now and they’re ace. Bleeding is a bit of a faff but I’ve only needed to do it once, after I broke the rear hose off.

I had a Garmin Dakota that did something similar but you could alter it. It wasn’t “energy” saving but you could allow it to use more or less memory space by marking the route more or less often. Yours may or may not have a similar option.

IDENTICAL twins. Use Morse code to cheat in exams by stabbing yourself in the arm with a sharp compass. The other twin, at home with a text book, can “feel” the question and stab you back the answers.

I put a Milton tab in mine if it’s been left for ages. Usually just keep it in the freezer between rides so it doesn’t go manky.

The strips in the kit above are too thin to be any use. This is what you want:-

    Weldtite kit

Nice big thick strips of sticky poo.

Mine are the same. Bought from Merlin in the last couple of months. They took them back and replaced the lowers for a new set which also turned out to be off centre. I gave up and started using them. Pretty crap really.
