I’ve got a Spitfire and they’re ace but it doesn’t meet some of the criteria on your list e.g. I don’t think you can get the HA to <66 even with 160s, its designed for an air shock only and the rear dropouts are normal 10mm ones.

    Get one anyway!! :-)

If it’s spongy at the top (i.e. it moves down a bit without pressing the lever) it normally means there isn’t enough oil in it.

You’ll need to top up the oil and air to the correct levels (which will depend on whether it’s a 3 or a 4).

The manual / troubleshooting doesn’t go into this sort of stuff – it doesn’t even explain about the air pressure and how to set it (this is something I have to do on mine every few weeks when it starts to not want to spring back up).

I’ve got Nanotechs and they’re ace apart from the paint which has flaked off very quickly.

Some of the colours are anodized and this seems to wear better from what I’ve seen (i.e. it doesn’t fall off in massive chunks like the paint does).

Don’t forget the Snowdon bike ban though: No bikes 10am-5pm 1st May to 30th Sep.

isn’t kashima a type of naan bread?

No no you’re thinking of “garlic”

What, so you guys stick to the trails – Losers! The only way to get down Snowdon is straight down the scree slopes!

The best one I’ve found is from the higher railway bridge on the Llanberis track – straight down to the road from there is proper “techy”

Pah – I do that on my unicycle!

I’ve got (tarty coloured) alloy bolts holding both my calipers and levers on. I’m not dead.

I’ve got a Joplin 4 and it’s ok as long as I regularly take it to bits / grease it / reset the air pressure etc

I’ve been using mine every week since December and there’s nothing like that on them – just little marks made by the pins on the pedals. So I don’t think yours should be missing chunks!

Mine are like that too but this has been raised on here before and the concensus was that everyone’s were like that and it’s fine. It’s just staining on the anodizing.

I’ve got the extra long Gore kit on my Spitfire and there was more than enough to do full length outers front and rear. Shifting has been great since I fitted it a few months ago.

I had a 2009 Rockhopper and I’m sure mine was 75mm although they may be different on different size frames. Mine was a 17″.

Another that stunned me with superb service was Berghaus –

Berghaus replaced a 3 year old coat of mine which had gone a bit bobbly on the sleeve. I didn’t have the receipt or anything so they just said pick some stuff from their website up to the value of the coat (£200) and then sent it to me :-)

I spotted one of the Brethren on Saturday!

It was a grey one on the back of a car in the Kirroughtree car park.

It’s the first one I’ve seen in the wild :-)

You can probably make most of it out from the pic but the main bits are:-

RS Rev Team dual air fork
    Mavic Crossmax SX wheels
    Hope M4 brakes
XT cranks with Middleburn / Race Face rings and bashguard
also now has a blackspire stinger chains tensioner not in pic
    XT cassette
    Saint / SLX mechs
    SLX shifters
    XTR spds
    Thomson 70mm stem
    Syncros carbon bars 710mm
    etc

Always check when you get a new set of these, that’s why all the sets of forks I sell are stripped, inspected with bushes and fluid levels being adjusted as necessary.

So as I bought my Revs from you can I stop worrying too much about what horrors I’ll find when I open them after approx 6 months’ use??

Mine weighs about 29lb I think. That includes a Joplin seatpost but it’s pimped up quite a bit:-

    mr_mills

So it wasn’t just a case of the pivots wearing thin where they rub on the bushes? That’s ok then :-)

Not sure what happened with the pivot – it’s not like you have to do them up really tight or anything. The bolt in the end was only part way in and just stopped in the thread and… “crack!”

    mr_mills

    Hmmmmmmmm

I’m just about to replace my pivots and bushes due to wear. There is play in the pivot above the bottom bracket and the pivot is worn right down. I’ve bodged it by wrapping some PTFE tape round the pivot for now to compensate for it being too thin for the bushes.

I showed a pic of my worn pivot to Keith from Banshee and he just said it’s normal wear and that’s why Freeborn sell pivot & bush kits. I’ve been riding it A LOT for the last 6 months though.

Shortly after I got mine I noticed some play in the pivots and it turned out (after hassling Keith about it – he must love me!) that they were actually not tight enough and tightening them up (and using threadlock) sorted it.

I also managed to completely snap the pivot behind the BB recently but that was just hamfistedness when tightening it I think. Freeborn sent me one for nothing.
