Looks like a brown wall plug which means a no 12 screw. But to be fair, there should be proper wall bolts in there. Christ, I use 12s for skirting sometimes if I really need them to pull into the wall.

I did say to one of the neighbours that I would think twice about putting bookshelves up with the screws which were holding this thing up.

Er have you checked upstairs for burglars ?

I might have noticed them climbing in the window as I was sat in the room immediately above the canopy.

It’s hard to know. Maybe a baby Robin landed on it and that was the final straw

I was actually wondering if any spoon handles or chewing gum had been used in the installation.

Presumably these went into heavy duty rawl-plugs?

It’s a bit dark to see at the moment but looking at the picture of the screw I posted above there is a bit of the plug left on the screw and it looks like a standard issue brown rawlplug to me – here is a link to a larger version of the image.

A structural engineer would raise an eyebrow at that.

If I get no joy from the builder I think I will have a word with Building Control at the local council to see if there any regulations regarding the installation of these things.

That is fantastically shonky just wait for the next snow fall and see how many more fall off.

This is something I don’t understand – the canopy had a foot and a half of snow on it for the best part of 2 weeks last December and was also hit by an avalanch of ice from the roof when the thaw came. I can only assume this has weakened the fixings but why it chose to fall off tonight is anyone’s guess.

You need to check what’s covered with the NHBC guarantee.
I’d reckon they might be worried about sorting this, since it could happen to any of the other houses built around the same time, for the reasons you suggest.

From what I have read in the past the whole house has to disappear into a hole which you have to prove you knew nothing about before the NHBC become interested.

I’m honestly more concerned with no one being under one of these if it falls off so I’m hoping the builders treat this with some degree of seriousness.

This is what it looked like after it came down:

And eight of these is all that was holding it up:

I can’t help with the going faster thing, but if they want any help with getting it to stop I understand spoon handles and chewing gum are the future.

    Holy thread resurrection.

Why would someone register on here just to give some parking advice on an ancient thread. Just a guess but the OP’s probably been on his hols by now.

Mr C, I like your style… It’s still the same bike, despite the fact it was once an Orange P7 and is now a Specialized Enduro FSR.

As far as I’m concerned it’s still the same bike. I’ve only ever had one bike – not since I got the P7 in 96 have I got off one bike and got onto another, the whole thing has been an evolution to where I am now via a Trek 9000 frame.

Never really thought about it but my current bike is completely made up of different parts from the original.

Started life as a 96 Orange P7 LX bought new – it is now based on a 06 Specialized FSR with XT components. The only possible things which could be carried over from the original are the gear cable outers but I’m almost certain these were replaced at some point.

They do veggie ones as well.

Was in there today and it appears the veggie ones are no more. They’ve been replaced with mozzarella and tomato calzone – which I must admit was not too bad.

The roadworks around the M6/M1 junction are only about a mile long and don’t seem to cause any hold up. The 15 mile stretch is past Luton J14-J9. I would exit the M1 at J15a and take the A43 across to the M40. This will also miss the widening works on the M25 anticlockwise from the M1 junction.

My head office is in Frimley so I do this journey regularly. The best thing you can do is know your options and listen to the traffic reports on Radio 2 or 5live and adjust your route.

He’s not that daft. He knows to get out of Preston.

This is very much outweighed by the fact he was walking to Middlesbrough.

Posting NWA’s take on it because it’s about a hundred times better… Charles Wright always sounded to me like he’s falling asleep mid song… exPRESS your… yawn… do it good… ah can’t be bothered.

Fair point, but as this thread is all about the bass line then credit where it’s due.

I’m not sure what the point of this experiment is – I’ve never seen a cat drink Coke.

If you just want rid of the teeth could you not put them under your pillow tonight? That way you get the teeth taken away and cash as well. Win win, innit.

I had the same problem – spent weeks jumping through all the hoops presented to me and still I couldn’t access my account. There was nothing in the account so in the end I just opened another account with a different email address.

Great view from the top of the TV tower in Alexanderplatz. Then take a gentle but entertaining and informative bike tour with these guys which starts from the foot of the tower.

I stayed at a this place [/url]when I was over there the year before last and was really impressed. It markets itself as a hostel, but this is really not the case it is more of a boutique hotel. I actually booked a bed in one of the 5 bed dorms for £15 a night as I was on a cheap as chips motorbike tour of europe, but when I arrived they gave me a private double room and it was better than most hotels in which I have stayed in the UK.

paulosaxo, the nurse popped down 4 blood bags. Again niavely, I thought ‘ah I’ll fill those’. She then explained afterwards the others are for my recipients.

It’s very rare that blood is given as whole blood. The blood will be centrifuged to separate the plasma from the red cells this is then transferred to the other bags on the donation kit. One is for the plasma which contains the coagulation factors – this can be frozen and stored for a long time. The second is used for the intermediate layer which contains the white cells and platelets – I believe this is generally discarded these days as platelets are obtained using platelet apharesis. The final one is for the red cells which can be stored for about 30 days.

I spent 15 years as a biomedical scientist in haematology and blood transfusion and can confirm what someone posted earlier about some of the blood being wasted usually it’s the rarer groups (B’s and AB’s) going out of date but I did once have to bin 120 units when the cold room broke down in a large teaching hospital I was working at. But generally it is always treated as a precious resource and I would encourage anyone who is able to donate to do so.

Good luck. Would love to find the motivation to do something like this.

I’ve had mine for two years now and I’m really looking forward to getting rid of it next April.

There are no major problems with it – it’s just lots of little details which I don’t like and annoy on a day to day basis. Fuel economy is terrible, if I turn the air-con off and drive carefully, on a combined cycle it might make 42 mpg. With the air-con on I never make 40 mpg, I was told it would get better as I did more miles, well I’ve done 70000 and it’s still no better. My last car (Octavia 2.0TDi) when driven like I stole it would still give 46 mpg and over 50 if driven carefully. It’s got the turning circle of a bus so parking is a pain. As Rockhopper said The engine is good but the ratios on the top 3 gears are so close together that you can cruise on the motorway in 4th and not realise.

If I had to praise anything about it I would say that in the snow last winter it was the best 2 wheel drive car I have driven. I got caught in Derbyshire one particularly bad day and whilst many other vehicles struggled the Civic was brilliant.
