I recently discovered that Cheryl Baker (of getting her skirt ripped off fame) was born Rita Crudgington.

I went to a clearance sale at B&Q and bought a rain shower. The shower outlets on the wall were a bit high to allow the new shower to fit below the ceiling. My en suite is now a full wetroom.

I would love some proper Discworld adaptations

I really enjoyed the adaptation of Going Postal that was on Sky about 10 years ago. The earlier one they did of The Colour of Magic not so much, it was just too much David Jason being David Jason.

I’ve now finished the first 300 pages of the Bugatti Chiron build, only another 300 to go. It is incredibly, it’s massive, but so densely packed with detail it weighs a tonne too. Gearbox, clutch, flappy paddles, W16 engine with pistons, 4 wheel drive, 2 diffs. And designed to be built how the real thing is supposedly, so front half and back half of chassis built separately and then joined together. God help me if I’ve got anything wrong so far, a rebuild would be a nightmare.

Make sure you put the diffs in the right way round or the front and rear wheels want to rotate in opposite directions. Digging the diff out and turning it around takes hours. DAMHIK.

I bought 2 UCS AT-STs in 2006ish when they were discounted in Argos to £45. Built one and put the other in the loft. Sold the boxed one for £300 earlier this year. If I’d bought £45 worth of gold in 2006 it would now be worth approx £200.

Give Car SOS a call, tell them it belongs to a relative who’s fallen on hard time. It’ll be on the road in a couple of weeks. They’ve fixed worse.

+ A stolen sharpie from work to add a witty slogan

Stealing stationery from work doesn’t hold the same joy since I’ve been working from home.

I wouldn’t mind a jolly to east Asia for free.

Me too. However this trip entails 2 12 hour+ flights in cattle class, two weeks in a business hotel on an industrial estate on the outskirts of a smog ridden mega city in a country I would never choose to visit voluntarily, with 9 hour days spent in a training room and work to complete in the evenings. Not sure what your definition of a jolly is but that isn’t mine.

What does your boss say would be the first question?

Mine too, but getting a straight answer has been impossible. My manager is based in another country so I raised the issue by email when the date and location was advised, he just forwarded this to the global training manager – the next communication I got was a formal invitation to the course.

I’ve raised it again and he’s forwarded to the global training manager again.

Just bought a new suit for the first time in about 15 years. Went into John Lewis, first suit I saw I liked. Then proceeded to go round all the major retailers in a large city before going back and getting the one in JL. So my advice is buy the first one you see, it will save a lot of time.

I’ve got a C350e and I love it. Best car I’ve ever had. Puts the handling of all BMWs I’ve driven to shame.

The bad news is you can no longer order them as the production run for this year has been allocated and the replacement C400e has yet to be launched – or so my colleagues who have tried to order and had their orders cancelled have been told.

I failed phone banking security and had my account locked because I got my age wrong. Couldn’t get the whippersnapper on the other end to understand that once you get past 40 you try and forget your age.

I’ve got a Triton TRA001 mounted in my router table. You can remove the spring making it simple to adjust the height from below – it also has a fine adjuster. So much easier than the Dewalt I used to use.

First time I heard it I thought Reverend and the Makers and had done a collaboration with Spider Stacy.

    Ghah! It’s incredulous noise

I wasn’t aware that noise could believe in anything.

It would need to be 245m + back to be of any use

So not 2 feet behind the vehicle when stopped in the middle lane.

I’ve seen a longer better quality version of this but I can’t find it. It shows a vehicle swerving out of the middle lane giving the camera car no chance to avoid.

lane 1 should revert back to being a hard shoulder almost immediately no?

On day 1 of the M1 being fully re-opened after conversion to ‘smart’ motorway with no hard shoulder between 29 and 30, I was driving south, and northbound was 4 lanes of stationary vehicles with emergency vehicles trying to fight their way through to get to the incident.

Once the motorway has ground to a halt it’s too late to revert lane 1 back to a hard shoulder. Bloody stupid idea, I’m sure people will die due to the delay in the emergency services getting to the scene.

Are we talking about Mary Ann Hobbs? Every time the ad for that drippy mare comes on I want to stab myself in the ears, god knows how I’d feel if I actually listened to the program.

A couple of years ago I was driving behind one car in a 40 limit and noticed the car behind me was a bit close. We went round a bend and the car in front had to do an emergency stop as a large branch had fallen from a tree. I stopped behind him and the car behind duly ran into the back of me. On getting out I informed the driver I’d noticed some distance back that they were a bit close. Their response was to deny it, whilst stood next to their car embedded in the back of mine.

Second the multitool, but on the battery vs corded I’d recommend getting a decent battery one every time. I had a corded one which I rarely used as it was a pain to be tethered to the mains.

I have just ripped out and re-done the en suite so felt justified in getting this. It was worth its weight in gold and has been used far more than the corded one ever was and the quick tool change is great when you need to swap between blades several times on a job. I know its over budget but the amount of time it will save will pay dividends.

As others have said Google. I work in an IT role with a large crossover into a scientific field, I actually moved into the IT role from the scientific role because I know how to correctly phrase the IT questions in Google (I have never revealed this but one day I am sure to get found out).

I left my camera on a pew in St Patricks Cathedral in New York earlier this year, didn’t realise until about 20 minutes after we left and went straight back. Unsurprisingly there was no camera where we had been sitting. Went back to the entrance where there were many members of staff and asked one of them if there was a lost property location, ‘Why?’ he asks, ‘I’ve lost my camera’ says I. ‘What make is it?’ he retorts, ‘Panasonic’ I respond. At which he puts his hand in his pocket and says ‘is it this one?’. You could have knocked me down with a feather.

The sheer number of people in there on a Sunday afternoon and the amount of staff to deal with them makes walking up to the first person I see and him happening to have my camera, close to a miracle. If I was a religious type I might think it was some sort of sign, I’m not so I’ll go with it being a lucky concidence.

Saw the new Millenium Falcon in the Lego store today. It’s huuuge, absolutely no idea where I could put this even if I did get one. Just another reason I probably won’t. (I will)

The last UCS Falcon was making 5.5k on Ebay.

    I’ll be buying two then.

The original UCS Falcon came out when Lego was much less popular than it is now so didn’t sell in vast numbers hence the reason it goes for so much now. I think many people are going to expect this to appreciate in the same way so it will be a big seller despite the price and for that very reason will not end being increasing in price in anything like the way the original did.

I took this shot from Clemson, South Carolina, just as totality ended.

I’ve stitched together a series of shots into a very short timelapse video:

I’ve been planning this in my head for 18 years since I went to France in 99 and it was clouded out. This was my first experience of a total eclipse without cloud cover and it was absolutely amazing, I now understand why eclipse chasers do what they do.

I was listening to an interview with Victoria Pendleton today and had a lightbulb moment – a quick look on Wikipedia confirms her middle name is Louise.

The only Louise I know works on a site I visit occasionally and is extremely attractive but is as mad as a box of frogs.

First episode is on National Geographic at 20:00 on March 30th.

I think you’ll find the third episode is on on the 30th as the new series started on the 16th. They’ve already done some amazing work on a Mercedes Pagoda and a Jaguar Mark 2 – on both it looked like the the body shells were only fit for scrap but by some miracle they resurrected them.
