When the ice cream man plays music that’s to say he’s run out of ice cream .

Oh and I later found that my mother had gone to the shops not ” run away with a black man ”

    Savoury gruyere and pumpkin pie

I’m not a big fan of pumpkin pie as dessert, but this cheese-spiked version gets a lot of airtime in my kitchen.

    Serves 4-6
    1 tbsp olive oil
    25g unsalted butter
    1 onion, thinly sliced
450g pumpkin or butternut squash, peeled and cut into 15mm cubes
1 tsp coconut or light brown sugar
    2 tsp balsamic vinegar
2 eggs, lightly beaten, plus 1 lightly beaten egg, for brushing
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
    120g gruyere, grated
25g parmesan, freshly grated (I use a vegetarian one)
A small bunch of sage leaves, fried

    For the pasty
300g plain flour, I use spelt
    30g cheddar, grated
    150g unsalted butter, chilled, chopped

1 For the pastry, put the flour, cheddar and butter in a food processor with a pinch of salt. Process until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Add 80ml chilled water and process until the mixture comes together to form a smooth ball. Wrap in cling film and chill for 30 minutes.

2 Meanwhile, make the filling. Fry the onion in the oil and butter over a low heat for 5 minutes, or until soft. Add the cubes of pumpkin and cook, stirring occasionally, for 2-3 minutes.

3 Add about 125ml water and bring to a simmer. Cover, return the heat to low and cook for 20 minutes, or until the pumpkin is soft. Stir in the sugar and balsamic vinegar, then allow to cool.

4 Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/gas 6. Line a large baking tray with baking paper. Roll out your pastry on a lightly floured board into a 30cm disc and put this on the prepared baking tray.

5 Put the cooled pumpkin mixture in a large bowl and mash it roughly, leaving a few bigger pieces for texture. Add 2 beaten eggs and season well with salt and black pepper, then stir in half the gruyere.

6 Sprinkle the remaining gruyere over the pastry, leaving a 2cm border. Fill the centre of the pastry with the pumpkin mixture, then fold over the 2cm border and roughly pleat. Brush the pastry edge with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with parmesan. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden and cooked through.

7 Serve the pie warm, garnished with fried sage leaves, if using.

Depending where you live you could try a horseriding shop, yonks ago I had an expensive saddle [ bontrager ] that split , No bike shop would repair it without it costing more than it’s value.
In the end I went to a shop that did saddle repairs, the woman fixed it while I waited, charged me a fiver and apologised for the cost. The benefits of living semi-rural I guess.

At the end of the day we can’t complain about others being irresponsible unless we are accountable as well, this nob rode in what was clearly a pedestrian area having been warned, near to children and without proper brakes- reckless and selfish .

mildbore- I agree , I still ride and still enjoy it but just no longer expect to be fit without putting a fair amount of slog in as I’m sure you do too.I’d rather keep going than miss time trying to get fit again in spring

Its hard work at this time of year, I spent an two hours dragging a bike through mud and shite the other night , spent more time cleaning it than using it recently but I work on the basis that its easier to keep fit than get fit and what you do in the winter pays off in the spring

Back to the original post, I’m not sure he will get away with it ,whether he ” happened ” to be the last person there with a 14 year old by accident or design will need to be examined , if he is a predator on a more regular basis then the allegations will start emerging .I don’t think it will end well for him.

I think we need to know what he actually did and put things into some perspective, if it was a drunken pass that’s one thing. If it was an assault or abuse that’s another.
There seems to be a ripple effect [ like after the Saville revelations] whereby having let the bigger villains off the press we round up a pathetic entourage of relatively lesser offenders to satisfy the public wish to see something done.
I’m not minimising what may have been serious behaviour, just saying we need a bit of objectivity or we’ll have to arrest every male in Hollywood over a certain age .

Absolutely, the idea isn’t to exclude white artists but to recognise the origins, in Sam’s case I would imagine it’s the gospel connection, I think Mick Hucknall has previously won it for mangling Teddy Prendergast songs

MOBO is relevant because if you look at every generation or style of music you’ll have stuff with a black influence history but there’ll be a white crossover act raking all the beans in.
While this is probably inevitable the idea of MOBO was to recognise and reward the origonal artist whether its reggae blues soul or the funk that became disco .Otherwise you’re condemned to the beegees or ub40.

Brandenburg gate would be favourite in terms of architecture
the wall is a grim reminder of a not too distant past
Postdammerplazt is a fine example of modern architecture.
