Where abouts in Rochdale are you , there are bits of trail up through Syke common that will take you up to the corner of Healey Dell , you can pick ip old railway line that takes you up to whitworth and a climb to the left on to lee quarry , or you can take a bridleway to the right up to watergrove and on to brown wardle etc

If your out and doing it has to be good,
in the sun so you get vitamin d, social so it improves your mindset, slow riding like jogging must be fat-burning , and good for the muscles without risking damage so win win win win win win win.Not everybody gets to be a racing snake , Mart

I really liked him as a musician and as a human being .When he was on in Manchester several years ago I went for a piss and walked into his dressing room by mistake .He was meditatiing , looked up smiled and waved as I backed out the door .

I just know a lot of runners with knackered knees, maybe they were unlucky .Main point is that as long as you look after your body you can adapt and carry on

I’m two weeks off 58 and still plodding away, mainly mountain biking .I think it helps that its not load bearing thats there’s not the sort of long term damage to knees etc that runners get. One thing I notice on rides is that older riders won’t have the same explosive speed or sprinting ability due to slowing metabolism but that they will tend to keep going at a regular speed for longer times whereas younger riders will be wanting food.

Its great fun , the wierd thing at first is that because the lights are so strong even the smallest drop looks like it might be huge due to the shadow caused. As said before ride trails you know. You do get odd stuff. like if its foggy your shadow will projected onto the fog by someone behind you … kinda spooky

At the end of the day I think everyone would accept that gyms are boring , but as surfer says if youre getting on a bit you have to work at staying toned. in my case there is a degree of vanity in wanting to look ok but mainly its keeping toned so I can enjoy riding .

When my kids were younger we used to go to the valley centretainment centre in bolton there was a hufge gym with exercize bikes next to the cinema. I amanged to persuade them that the hapless souls on the bikes were powering the scree and if the film juddered someone hasd stopped pedalling .

I do basic weights to keep toned ,work on core which I think is important for biking. After previously not using weights for legs exercizes I have just started doing squats and leg press to increase strength , am monitoring this to see if it has a positve or negative effect on riding as I’m not sure.

driing along the motorway in my campervan I spied an owl swooping down the embankment towards the verge [ middle of the day ] coulodn’t move as I was in traffic, it flew straight down after whatever prey it was chasing and got splattered all over my registration plate. Last three letters of my registration = LWE [ german for bird ]
