trevormcdonald – I’m not sure I get your comment on there not being good riding apart from the quarries [ unless you were being humorous ] . I think there’s loads of good trails I’d rather ride than either quarry unless I tied them into as loop including scout moor and cowpe or ding

I think that there is also an issue of upkeep and keeping things going with the council. There have been lots of projects , for instance the sculpture trail and the bike trails where they have literally paid thousands to set things up just to watch them rot because it’s too expensive to maintain them – very sad

Add to that if the police don’t attend to a crime it doesn’t get recorded. For instance I was at a meeting in Bolton town centre and we could see a group of people stripping lead from a closed store which had scaffolding up. We called the police who said that if no one was in immediate danger they wouldn’t come out .They didn’t therefore it officially never happened.

Also the number of offences on bail has been reduced by the police not bailing people but releasing them ” under investigation ”

Add to that the dire shortage of police officers in town centres, the fact that if someone steals less than £500 from you it is recorded as personal loss then the picture is a lot more alarming than most folk will know.

Not to minimise this as a problem, I certainly wouldn’t be happy to leave my car on the park if I wasn’t local – I think there’s a real threat from crossers using the trails at Lee and Cragg. I have had a couple of close encounters as I have been going down berms at speed and m/bikes have been coming up out of control .Also a lot of walkers attribute the damage to the moors to us .

I think if people are driving from afar it might be an idea to park at stubbylee park and ride the short distance.

I got nipples on my titties, big as the end of my thumb
I got somethin’ between my legs’ll make a dead man come
Oh daddy, baby won’t you shave ’em dry?
    Now, draw it out!

Want you to grind me baby, grind me until I cry
Say I **** all night, and all the night before baby
And I feel just like I wanna, **** some more
    Oh great God daddy

Grind me honey and shave me dry
And when you hear me holler baby, want you to shave it dry
I got nipples on my titties, big as the end of my thumb
Daddy you say that’s the kind of ’em you want, and you can make ’em come
    Oh, daddy shave me dry

And I’ll give you somethin’ baby, swear it’ll make you cry
I’m gon’ turn back my mattress, and let you oil my springs
I want you to grind me daddy, ’til the bell do ring
Oh daddy, want you to shave ’em dry

Oh great God daddy, if you can’t shave ’em baby won’t you try?
Now if ****’ was the thing, that would take me to heaven
I’d be ****’ in the studio, till the clock strike eleven
Oh daddy, daddy shave ’em dry

I would **** you baby, honey I’d make you cry
Now your nuts hang down like a damn bell sapper
And your dick stands up like a steeple
Your goddam ass-hole stands open like a church door

And the crabs walks in like people
    Ow, shit!
Ooh! Baby, won’t you shave ’em dry
A big sow gets fat from eatin’ corn
And a pig gets fat from suckin’

Reason you see this whore, fat like I am
Great God, I got fat from ****’
    Eeeeh! Shave ’em dry

My back is made of whalebone
And my cock is made of brass
And my ****’ is made for workin’ men’s two dollars
Great God, round to kiss my ass
Oh! Whoo, daddy, shave ’em dry

Some guys I know rode the PBW to raise money for a special needs swimming pool . Among them was a 66 year old bloke who otherwise could not have ridden for long periods and one of the guys wives who said she could not otherwise have committed to a day’s riding.

Both of them pedalled as much as they could and used the extra power when they needed it .

If you’re talking Edenfield near Rammy there are bridleways a plenty. If you take the road towards Rawtenstall and take the first minor road on your right after the roundabout this becomes a lane , turn right just before the top this is Sandy beds – its a long gradual up hill to Scout moor [ where the windturbines are,] there are tracks all around ,a good [ not technical downhill at the coal road which puts you on Rochdale road, turn right back to Edenfield. Or you could follow the adrenalin gateway signs to Cragg quarry, or go down rooley more into Rochdale , or hang a left down Cowpe . I’d pick up a local map or get a leaflet on the mary townley loop – you can do sections of it .

Same as others , I haven’t used either quarry much recently despite them being on my doorstep .I have reported crossers several times using the special number but have never got a response .I suppose it’s the same as the argument about funding- if the police can’t cover the streets how are they gonna manage the hills ?

In addition to what others have said… I would take the bike to your LBS and have it checked over in case you need to claim for any damage.

As Grannyjone says the combination of constant rain in Lancashire and the moors getting chewed up by crossers has meant that some of the trails are in a terrible state .Cragg quarry is a bit like the water slide at Alton Towers with a pool of cold water in the dips.

I’d be careful that you don’t get into a pattern of appeasing her – it sounds like you’ve already been very flexible.I got into a similar pattern when I was married and it became the norm to be the one keeping the peace, the one the kids wanted time with , I think a frank discussions possibly with some support from Relate about who wants what and how it can be reconciled , there does get to be a point where you lean so far that you fall on your arse.

I sometimes make a sort of shepherds pie by making a basic spicey tomato sauce but bulked up with red lentils .Put some mash on top and bake in the oven.Or you could use the tomato sauce with any pasta dish [ it’s basically a ragu with lentils in so the variations are nedless ].Any indian cookbook will give you dhall recipes which are very easy and tasty , takka dhall is my favourite .

As with a lot of other problems [ alchohol sales , plastic bags etc ] the onus is not to solve the problem but to tax the consumer .The issue is not how much the coffee cups are , but how they can be properly processed, or is there another way manufacturers can provide disposable cups .

fan heaters cst a fortune to run.An alternative is an ” aviary heater “, these can be bought from DIY shops and are cheap as chips, its basically a heated cylinder that you can tuck away out of sight and run on low power.

The pub thing is a shame .If they grumble along with low overheads and low profit but if they generate more income they get caned by the breweries .A bloke I know took over a run down pub in Rammy , got it full , put food on ,had four handpumps and then got screwed over .He went back to being a taxi driver – more money and better hours.
