I was riding a road section mid afternoon , good lighting ,wearing an orange jacket with reflective stripes on sleeves .passing a t-junction – I’m on the main carriageway .an old lad pulls slowly up top the junction and stops, looks both way several times and exactly at the moment I am directly in front of her she pulls out pushing me accross the road and .fortunately stopping as I am falling over half way accross the road with a car coming the other way.She kept saying she hadn’t seen me and was shaking like a shitting dog.I stood around to question whether she was fit to be driving but had to get riding again before everything stiffened up .

Sounds a good itinery, I’m not sure I’d detour to do Gisburn when there’s more vaiety in the area your going to.Drumlanrig is fun-lots of rooty treeness .There’s Ae forest as well and natural stuff to explore.I’d either leave Gisburn for now or tie it in with a visit to Lee and Crag Quarries .

Loved it Loved it Loved it , just riding local trails which are currently fast and dry, even the downhills through the woods feel slightly less life threaening. Rhge only downside is that everywhere is so overgrown that a lot of trails are very narrow and you get pistol whipped with humungous nettles !!!

I had them on my last bike and it was only when I replaced it that I realised how shite they are, I never felt in control in terms of modulating or having to stop quickly so ended up being over cautious with them .

basically, like all quick fixes its based on dodgy science and has no known long term benefits

it was supposedly designed for emergency rapid weight loss in cardiac patients .It isn’t either a pleasant thing or a long term solution to weight issues, you’ll sweat like a bastard and fart like the duke ellington orchestra warming up, your skin will be cammy, hair greasy etc

I think the shock of it is how short a time the whole thing has taken , from Graham and I seeing Chris at the Brownbacks races last August and thinking that he wasn’t his usual affable self and looked somewhat pre-occupied- to finding out about the cancer .Then him taking the brave decision to go for the quality of life rather than undergoing shite chemo too late , to the shock of seeing him on the electric scooter and now in less than a year he’s dead .What can you say really , a thoroughly nice and unassuming man who didn’t seem to have any edge to him or a bad word for anyone , and a family left behind .Enjoy each day kids cos you just never know the next card you’ll get dealt …….

depends whereabouts in stockport you are, there are outlying areas such as heaton mersey and heaton chapel that have good restaurants like the yeti’s retreat [ nepalese ] or villages like hyde which have good pubs .

If you look at the scandals at both the north wales children’s homes and knowl view school in rochdale, both investigations suddenly stopped at the point where questions began to be asked about who was visiting the places , there was also the cincorra school in irelenad where boys were rented out to mps. Add to this the fact that saville was rubbing shoulders with royalty and having coffee mornings with the south yorkshire police at the same as some of this was going on , and at the same time that the police had built up a profile of him as possibly fitting the persona for the yorkshire ripper and it beginns to feel like a cover up. maybe to protect people above him ?

As stated there are many good reasons for wearing gloves, apart from the ones already pointed I would add…they are very good for nose wiping duties and most important of all if you wear them during a few hot rides and you take you clothes off you look like michael jackson in a romper suit

I think there’s an inverse snobbery as well that , whenever a bike becomes very popular people slag it off.Happened to the five and to specialized .There seems to be a surge in poularity followed by a negative reaction . At the end of the day theyre just bikes and most of us aren’t going to ride them to their full potential .

I had a five for four years and enjoyed it , it did most things well and was a fun bike .When it got knackered I started looking at a new one and couldn’t really see where the money was going for the price so looked for alternatives and found a blur. lt for a good price so tested it .It just felt very right and I found I climbing better ,descending better and having a go at stuff I had gibbed at before.Think it must be down to the VPP system but having ridden it for 18 months I wouldn’t go back .

Not sure why you’d beat yourself up over this Ton , you know you’re not lazy , you do more than most and God knows you’ve had plenty of opportunities to say **** it and give up .One of the things I like about mountain biking is that unlike a lot of sports there’s no defined body shape, you get all shapes and sizes , and some of the most unlikely looking people produce the goods , and as such its very inclusive .just get out and enjoy
