2 things for me- 1 there’s absolutely no need for hand held phones in cars as most new models will have blue tooth – if you must phone use hands free and then only in emergency , so what is so important that it can’t be left for the duration of a journey ? I’ve been veggie for years and there are plenty of veggie / vegan protein sources that don’t look like a copy of meat.I know lots of people come to this for varying reasons and some will struggle not to think in terms of basing a meal around a lump of meat but it seems odd to me that people who find the idea of meat abhorrent will pay good money for a lump of shite that ” bleeds ” beetroot juice. I think , as others have said that some wetherspoons are ok , the one in Leyland for instance is really nice – built around the theme of buses [ ie local industry ], others are shabby .Where I live there are plenty of shit pubs that were built in the 60s and seventies where you can pay good money for shit beer in shit surroundings [ and also a growing number of really good micropubs- there is no good reason for beer to be more expensive that wine .As others have said its just corporate greed.

I think at t very least there should be some broad explanation of how this money could be used productively , and what after all this time is the prospect of any resolution.

travel to Manchester IS an issue with the m66 gridlocked most mornings- they really need to put a tram or train connection in.

However I disagree about the quality of riding – there’s a brilliant network of trails, bridleways pack horse routes etc as well as the quarries if you like them .

I think Haslingdon is looking a bit run down/ shoddy with most houses being rented and estates and centre looking in need of some work, Rawtenstall on the other hand is having a mini rennaisance with a trading estate, shops and restaurants opening and four excellent micro-pubs. [ I live there so I may be biased] .

Rammy is mega expensive and mainly an evening economy = lots of restaurants + bars but local reports suggest an increase in burglaries .Hope that helps

I was in a queue of cars waiting for lights to change, about 20 of us, there is a t junction to the left and I have left a gap for oncoming cars to turn into it .I always keep an eye to the cars behind as before now people have overtaken and thrown their cars into the gap.

On this occasion however dickhead in a 4×4 goes one better, there’s and almighty racket and he’s mounted the kerb and driven on the pavement thrown himself into the left  turn. In doing so he has just missed a car turning right, narrowly avoided a kid on a bike and put the shits up a woman with a buggy. On the bright side he must have saved a minute off his journey .

dazh its not the damage to either quarry that is the issue, as you say both are hard standing .Its the damage to the moors getting there and the risk to other legitimate users.
