I’ll give that line a try, thanks. This is what they’ve said so far – not exactly refusing to cover it, but making it pretty clear they intend to write it off as ‘damage’.

If I understood correctly, you have an issue with the power key of your Nokia 7.2

I checked the chat conversation with my colleague. Have you tried to do a factory reset like my colleague suggested in order to check whether the issue will be resolved after that? If the issue remains, this means that it is a hardware issue.

I would like to inform you that any physical damage is not covered by the warranty. I am sending you the full terms and conditions for your device: https://www.nokia.com/phones/en_gb/support/warranty/nokia-7-2/GB/en

That’s spot on, thanks. Will fire that over at them!

Purchased from Nokia direct unfortunately. Amazon might have been a better bet!

They’ve arrived! Have emailed all those who’ve expressed interest already. There are some spares if anyone else wants some – drop me a message.

It was on a pretty big lathe, using a collect chuck to hold it.

Looks like steel prices (or laser cutting prices) have gone up a bit since 2016 I’m afraid. Will probably work out £2.50-3/pair + cost of a stamp. Please could you all drop me a message with your name, email address, how many pairs you want, and your postal address – it’ll be easier to deal with by email rather than STW messages.

    Cheers,

I made a small cable clamping widget for my dropper lever, as the new post uses the cable head instead of clamping it.

Thanks for the interest chaps. Sounds like there’s enough to get an order together. I’ll be in touch.

I have a Meddings bench top and an Elliot Progress floor standing. The Elliot is a beast, and beautifully made. Needs a crane to lift it.

Thanks. Will give the ANT+ a go then and see if it improves.

What do folk think of this set, if I were to move away from Milwaukee? It’s tempting as it comes with 3 2Ah batteries, which will be much lighter and less bulky than the 4Ah I currently have – and 3 x 2Ah seems just as useful as 2 x 4Ah. Price seems good, torque values slightly higher than the Milwaukee, both tools are nice and compact. I know Makita is the flavour of choice on STW, but all of the trade guys I’ve used recently have had the black and yellow.

I’d be more concerned with how easy blade change and noisy it is. I’ve gone the other way from Makita to Milwaukee and much prefer my new multitool. It’s quieter, smoother and tool less blade change

Interesting. I was getting all ready to chop in the Milwaukee, but the tools themselves are actually pretty good – just the pricing is a bit off. All the tradesmen I’ve seen lately use Dewalt. As others have said, choosing a brand is quite a commitment!

I’ve got a PX Tempest with a set of Open Pros with 38mm Gravel Kings (slicks) as my ‘road’ wheels and some 2.1″ XC tyres on 27.5″ wheels for proper gravel. I use both sets regularly, and swapping is very easy – no brake or gear adjsutment needed. Maybe I’m lucky in that respect. I’ve found I’m using the mtb much less now – most of my rides from my door are a bit tame for a 160mm FS bike, but ideal for a chunky tyred gravel bike.

I’ll probably swap the GKs for some 28mm road tyres at some point, as the GKs are crap on anything remotely rough or muddy anyway, and quite draggy on tarmac.

I think after 13 cans of Stella I’d struggle to get anything in the correct order, let alone construct a bathroom.

I’ve not read all the replies so suspect this has been mentioned already – if it’s Raynauds, just adding more insulation won’t work, as there has to be some warmth there to begin with. I would recommend some rechargable heated gloves.

These could be a worthwhile investment, even if they are a bit pricey.

Thanks for the input all. I’m a mechanical engineer, so producing the drawings should be easy enough for me to do in theory. I’d want a structural engineer to design the steelwork primarily for their PI. Also I have no idea how buildings are actually put together, in terms of membranes, structural connections, materials etc, so it might be better getting the detailing done by others in any case.

The main input I’d be looking for from an architect would be layout and making sure the end result doesn’t look too cobbled together. As an engineer, a lot of the various DIY jobs I’ve done so far on the house are functional, strong, cost effective, and fairly ugly. I’d like to address the last one there!

Oh, I made a few crud caps for Fabric water bottles too recently.

I designed and printed some stick-on cable guides/clips recently. Bonded onto the right leg of my fork to carry the dynamo cable, so the dynamo light can be easily removed when using a different wheelset. Also printed a little wedge shaped thingy to go on the back of the seatpost to angle the rear light more horizontally, rather than pointing at the floor. Don’t have a pic of either I’m afraid.

Yes, big range of costs up there, and a lot more than I’d expected. Our extension will (probably) be just 2m x 3m, measuring externally. More of a walk-through conservatory really.

Also, this light looks ace – cheap(ish), powerful, USB output.

    Holy thread resurrection!

Finally, someone has made a user servicable dynamo hub: Kasai.

These guys looks like they have them available – although it doesn’t specifically say In Stock. Would love to see some real world (i.e. cold and wet) reviews.

Yeah I was hoping to get something on ebay for <£200. I remember looking a couple of years ago and I’ve sure prices have gone up a lot since the pandemic, unsurprisingly. The big Volvo tipper looks ok, but it’s not as interesting as the cranes (imo).

I’ve got an urge to buy some Lego at the moment. I think my parents still have all my technic from the 1990s in their attic, but I’m unlikely to be getting my hands on that any time soon. It’s been good looking through all the old models I used to lust after, but the modern ones are even more impressive. Shame I missed the Rough Terrain Crane at £100 a few weeks ago. It seems the turnover of ‘current’ models is pretty high, and the good ones end up as collectible status as soon as they’re out of stock.

I’ve narrowed my list of desires down to:
    8043

    42082

    42082

What would you guys choose? I’m not so into the supercars and vehicles. I like construction equipment :-)

As tempting as the cheap knock-off stuff might seem, I think I’d feel pretty dirty buying that over proper lego.

I just dip the end of each spoke in a pot of grease before screwing on the (brass) nipples. Built plenty of wheels and not had any come loose yet. Had a few factory built wheels suffer from seized nipples so I’m rather paranoid about it.

Thanks all, that’s helpful. I’ll grab the serial number to double check. I think the fork does say Debonair on it somewhere…

I did a zoom one in June. 3 hours iirc. Much better than having to do it in person! The course itself was fine, if predictable. The calibre of the other people attending was eye opening.

I proper quality set of cable cutters. I have Park ones which have been excellent. And a good set of hex and torx keys – mine are Wera I think. Anything more specialist I’d suggest waiting till you need it – most of my bike specific tools only come out once a year or less!

I used to have everything stuck on the wall, but re-did it recently so only the tools I use reasonably regularly are out, the rest in drawers and tool boxes.

Got a handful of 3D printed caps for Fabric bottles, if anyone’s keen.

I’ve 3D printed some caps to push onto the top of Fabric bottles. Work a treat. No photos to hand of it in use, but here’s the model…

Yeah it wouldn’t work for me the other day on the laptop. Worked on my phone in the end.

Also had problems with TRP Spyres and the SP hub. I spaced the rotor out from the hub with some shims so it jsut cleared. Not ideal if you’re reguarly swapping wheels – on another bike I can swap between SP hub and a Bitex one without having to adjust the Rival caliper at all.
