They can sit on the shelf next to those cheap Ribble aero bars I splashed out on a few months ago…

I need to stop clicking these PSAs! Thanks!

Can we have some more pics? Sometimes there are two grubs screws down the same hole – or a roll pin or dowel as mentioned above. You may need a small bearing puller if it’s been on a while and corroded.

@Milese – feel free to make me an offer for a 3-unit Tenda set ;-)

I have a mesh wifi kit which has worked well for the last few years. I’m considering buying a new type which sends the network down the mains cable, so you can extendto outbuildings which would be outside the range of a wireless connection.

Probably going to get something like this. Let me know if you want a Tenda Nova kit for cheap!

I’ve toyed with this idea as well. Given how much time you’re likely to spend carrying it, I would prioritise lightness! I would imagine a plywood bike could end up pretty heavy unless you’re quite efficient with it.

I started off with a sheet of ply and everything hanging off screws. Then I took it down and replaced it in a more orderly sort of fashion, with only the things I use reasonably frequently (which is still quite a lot I suppose). Everything else is in drawers to try and keep the dust off.

It’s upside down cutting 3m up a ladder, so not really going to be able to put much pressure on. Will hang on for a mag drill I think!

I’ve converted a QR hub to 12mm thru using some thin section bearings and a bit of lathe time to make the central spacer and adapters. The bearings are very small and not really up to the job. Even if you get that to work, the hub doesn’t seem to have a disc mount, and a thru axle fork won’t have mounts for rim brakes, so…

The bottles that bleach comes in tend to be a bit thicker and sturdier – might be worth a try.

51.76% of our monthly users are from the UK.

    25% from US & Canada.

    The rest from everywhere else.

So you’re appealing to the 25% of the readership who live in the countries with the worst per-capita carbon footprint? That’s alright then.

Yep, didn’t spend too long looking for the Dark model! Thanks, that’s really handy. Drako does seem to be the best as I don’t want the mesh panels. Good feedback on the Jarin as well, as that had been near the top of the list.

    Cheers,

I sympathise. Not sure what cg means by MSM but it sounds a little conspiracy-theory-y to me. Main stream media is generally reporting real life events which are a result (to some extent at least) of man-made climate change. This is real.

However there’s no good going to come from crippling yourself with worry. I am extremely concerned as well, and spend a lot of time dispairing at mankinds complete disregard for what is coming. I’m able to cope as I realise nothing that I do as an individual will make any difference, and I need to concentrate on living a fulfilling life,  providing as best as I can for my family, whilst minimising our impact – but accepting our impact is negligable in the grand scheme of things.

I hope your sessions with the psychotherapist can help perhaps put things in perspective and help you focus on the good things in life.

Yeah. Maybe packing out the cleat is the best way.

AirBNBs and the like have helped destroy communities in popular tourist spots by making housing unaffordable for local people. Are you happy being a part of that? Usuing your already priviliged position of wealth to make even more wealth at the expense of others less fortunate? The sooner local councils can tax second homes out of existence the better.

Finally got a water lily! Our water level varies quite a bit with the rain, and it’s previously been drowned and rotted shortly after flowering. This year it’s bloomed at a high water level, so should be safe.

Not used the cranks, but I have a set of Gold dicks :-D hubs which are DT clones. The centrelock thread on one was a bit tight but otherwise seem nicely made.

American Classic here – absolutely silent, because it has a nifty mechanism to retract the pawls once it starts freewheeling. Not sure if they’re still available – don’t seem to see them any more.

I’m still pushing ahead with this project. I’ve found various examples of titanium fat mid-tail cargo bikes, one with a pinion and some with motors. Most based around the Salsa Blackborow with bolt-on racks. I’ve also found a Ukrainian guy making amazing withing with thin steel tubing, so hoping to get him to make the rack. The best motor at the moment seems to be the Bafang M560 which is quite new, but should be available by the time I’m ready.

I’m working on my design still and waiting for info on the motor mounting bracket. Need to decide about wheel size (allow for 26″ fat and most other options should fit), axle width (148×12?), sliding dropouts for hub gear vs normal ones, adding a break somewhere for belt drive, etc…

I fitted one of these in the garage, linked to the PIR in there. Pisses me right off when I set it off accidentally.

Yeah they’re stamped with TCS – Tubless Compatible System. Heading off touring very soon so I hope they seal up quickly!

The Pikes are out of stock I think.

Picked up some nice looking carbon aero road bars and WTB Horizons for £12 each! They have WTB Byways for the same price.

Cougar – we’d book in advance. Ashoka looks great, just deciding between that and somewhere slightly cheaper.

I’ve just got a bottle of cheap OKO Offorad stuff – think it’s meant for tractors. £10 for 1.25 litres – Watered down 2:1 means it goes even further and costs peanuts. So far so good. Even when watered down it was wanting to seal up the syring I was using to inject it into the valve stem, so ability to plug holes looks good. Used about 100ml in a 2.5″ tyre, and a little more in the rear where the tyre insert stops it sloshing around as well.

I had a cheap road set which came with a frame. It was frighteningly flexy. Got rid and replaced with alloy Zipp bars. I’m generally quite partial to Chinese cheapness, but not for bars any more. To be fair, the problem with my example was their attempt at internal cable routing just involved cutting large portions out of it.

Ren is brilliant and multi talented. I can’t understand why he’s not hit the big time. Really like the covers he did with The Big Push. I think he does have some odd health beliefs re. Lyme disease etc.

It’s not something that one can drop into easily as it requires a relevant degree and years of experience, but nuclear decommissioning as a mechanical engineer does feel very much like it is for the greater good. The more I find out about the utter horror show that exists in west Cumbria, the more important and vital it feels that we do whatever we can to fix it. And hopefully make things easier for the poor sods who have to put on the rubber suits and breathing apparatus and dose-meters to go and clean up the results of 50 years of bad decisions.

A solid nine inches here in Huddersfield.

    And what about the snow?

Good reminder, thanks. Anyone used the titanium replacement pins? They look neater than split pins and presumably less like to strip than the slot head original.

Giraffe – M4 and E4 are slightly different I think – one slightly smaller than the other. You’ll want to H10K I believe.

The Tech 3 vs Tech 4 only refers to the lever, not the claiper?

Maybe I’m imagining it, but I’m sure there’s a bright green patch in the clouds looking east from Sheffield tonight.

Sadly the xacd budget price is about $1.5k more than I’d hoped for :-(

That Surly Skid Loader looks pretty good – shame it’s not available in the UK.

Alpkit in Hathersage has a bucket full of various sizes (all stealth type) upstairs for £5. I keep meaning to measure up and get some spares in!

Some more wheels here – ‘Goldix’ hubs – which seems like DT 240 copies, and WindWing rims at 430g each for 30mm (internal) 27.5″ AM weight. They feel utterly bombproof. No access holes for the nipples which I was a bit nervous about, but lacing only took slightly longer than normal using a magnet to draw the nips around from the valve hole. I might feel differently if I was a pro wheelbuilder with the extra faff, but as a one off it’s quite nice to have a rim that won’t need tape.
