Bomba that’s brilliant advice thanks – yes well spotted I have virtually no aerobic base lol thanks also for the links they’re mint! Just on CRC buyin computer with HR/cadence and since it’s raining cats and dogs gives me plenty time to read through all the steps on building up to events :D

Oh well time to book up for CRC sportive and MTB marathon at Selkirk hehe

I would love the voucher! I’ve got £100 in the basket so a rennet off would be massively helpful! My email is dan.macallan(at)yahoo.co.uk thanks loads!

    Wicked thanks for this. A

Agreed weight loss is my big target for 2012 (approx 20 lbs to lose) but I’m definitely trying to be more effective on the bike also. I’m not going to race as such this year but a few events would be cool to participate in.

I like the idea of using a basic HRM to track heart rate as performance indicator but like you say not as a sole method of training, thanks for the suggestion of RS100 just looking into it now.

Has anyone used the Suunto M2 at all?

    Cheers again all

You could always get hold of a pedal/spd/fork brace/chain ring…, bodge a hinge system, get it sprayed/powdercoated bronze and hey presto! Actually I might have a go at that myself! Hmmm off to hunt through spare parts box

BAd luck RaceFAce! Don;t kow if you’ve tried one but they have the same sickly sweet with savoury combo you find with banana fritters! Although if you do like them then you could always try a deep fried Cadburies Creme Egg at easter!

First time I ever saw a GT LTS Downhill I thought that is beautiful – I wanted one so much as a kid – then I saw a Santa Cruz Super-8 and that was then my favourite! Funny how both are downhill bikes and I ride XC – weird huh.

So i bought a Heckler and decked it out with XC stuff and I love it

I love this thread so much now – makes me feel a whole lot better knowing many (not all) Building Standards officials conform to such a rigorous standard!

Nope houses A and B are not next door – they’re a couple of street away from each other.

In fairness any 2-storey extension should really be looked at by Structural Engineer anyway. I didn’t do the drawings for A, but am working on B and wanted to use the same structural enginner as was used at A when I found out that no structural engineer looked at House A – hence why i started asking so many questions.

And yes I think I’ve done something to pi$$ of the Building Control Officer. Maybe its me asking too many questions lol

    Apologies Esme,

Indeed I am appreciative of all the help given to me by anyone responding to a post on STW. I do always on any post I write add – cheers or thanks, at the end of the first post as a way of thanking anyone who has read the post or goes on to answer it. In fairness I almost always reply with thanks but in this case was otherwise waylayed.

Apologies again for not replying with thanks, the info on the TAX breakdown is brilliant

    Many thanks

Lol I would be XTR if it weren’t for this blasted tax lol

I’m 630LX but I used to be 647L not sure what limit was though I think it was about 7k+

Guess I’m paying too much anyway

Kuco – forget teh knife just take the chainsaw with you when you’re riding!

Yep I’m a carrier :D Got a micro leatherman on the car/house keys for every day stuff and it gets used loads.

On the other hand I also carry a knife with me in the leg pocket of my shorts when I’m riding. It’s pretty handy actually I’ve used mine to –

Open food that’s really difficult to open…
Cut off my camelbak when I got stuck in a bush and the pack wouldn’t let me go…
Turn a shredded innertube into a new strap for a Camelbak that someone had inconveniently cut up…
Eat apples – not sure why I like this but eating it from a knife makes me feel outdoorsy…
Cutting small twigs of a stick used to jam my front mech in place when gear cable snapped…

I’ll rebuilding the bike on Saturday with a small afternoon ride to the local monument, then off to Glentress on Sunday with Whyter, where we will be taking photos of our bikes (most likely next to a monument if we can find one) – does the Stane count?

SWEET! I grew up in Inverurie with local trails everywhere – I still love it! Unfotunately I now live in Glasgow but take the bike back up north when I see my family (only a 3 hour drive)

Check out Pitfichie/Kirkhill Forest for local trail centre(ish) type riding, or if you prefer just go and ride up any of the local hills. Parts of Bennachie were a favourite if you stay away from the Baileys!

Phrases you will need to know are –

    “Aye-Aye” – Hi there
    “Aye-Aye” – I agree
    “Aye-Aye” – you’re talking a lot of pis*
“Aye-Aye” (inhaling in while speaking) – Is that a fact

I loved those OF3 gloves too – had 2 pairs both destroyed and in bin  having said that I wonder if they were any better than the gloves I wear now or if my memory is forgetting the bad bits.

Did anyone ever buy some gear from a company called Last Ten. I had a Pertex windstopper and MASSIVE fleecy gloves. I loved their stuff. Shame I can’t find anything anywhere to show they existed!!!

I was sitting in the Hub Cafe about 4months ago having tea/cake and chatting with my mate about the cafe and how it’d pretty much been the same since we started going about 6years earlier. I’ve always enjoyed it, always thought the prices were comparible to cafes elsewhere in the sticks, always felt comfortable (even in soaking wet muddy clothes), and always always been greeted with a smile and a bit of banter at the desk.

As long as the food’s good, tea’s hot, you can sit smelly wet and muddy on a chair, and you’re not paying through the nose in some dobbies cafe clone then maybe a bit of a change over to the Peel building isn’t so bad is it?

It’s truly rubbish if Emma and Tracey don’t get to have some involvement in the new place; but as with most really good stuff the Hub will probably fade into legendary status and will still be talked about while you’re sitting in the Peel cafe having a Lavazza coffee and Pan Au Chocolat after having to take your spuds off.

    Hi All,
Great advice thank you, there's no children involved thankfully but you're right about legal advice. And thanks for the link on the Cohabitation law, that's pretty good at explaining a lot of the question we had.
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated!!!
    Cheers

I'd stick at your existing job for another one year – work as little hours as necessary to get by. Take the pay rise and stick most of it in the bank to buy a new bike, pay off any debt, buy a nice holiday or even some nice presents for people you like. Get the car and rip it to **** in the mean time. Then hand in your notice and go for a different job.

Unless of course your current job is the total pits, then it goes without saying get the hell out as no money is worth being depressed every day – it rubs off on those at home too.
