Not had any yet…running 6 psi for quite a while now.
Also 1/2 bottle of sealant in each via schrader valve Conti DH 2.7″ tubes.
I ride all my bikes with same bag, so 2.5″ tube in there will be ‘reet in a fatty to get me home if I do have a problem.

I always remove seals & degrease bearings, clean & repack with quality grease before installation.

This applies to bikes at home, or oil rigs/ships when at work…

Having looked at the option on these a while back I would wait for the on one, which has a target price of £1000

They are a budget option for sure, with 100mm rims, but I think you would find the bike quite limited after a while in the standard spec. Also, by the time shipping & tax is added, you are not far off the cost of a pugsley.

The chainline is a bit iffy & I have seen chainrub on the tyre when using Alfine hub. 39lbs in standard form. 1

That said, it would be ok for flat beach riding & I did consider making a frankenbike fat cargo bike out of one or a Sun Spider AT  Just depends on what you want to do with it.

That is a really nice pic with the Jones, Stu

Going by the forecast, I might be playing in the snow again at the weekend

    From BBC Weather… 8O

Snow showers across northeast Scotland will become more frequent and heavier during Friday, with snow drifting in the gale force northwest winds.
Inland, blizzards are expected with hazardous conditions, especially across north Aberdeenshire, north Moray and Sutherland.
Valid from 0600 to 1500 Friday

Should make for some good photos :-)

“Difficult riding made easy” is the way I view the whole fatbike thing.
I enjoy all kinds of riding, but for most of the places I ride, fat is the most effective & comfortable tool for the job.

It opens up a lot more riding possibilities around the area where I live

Toons – The nate’s will be staying on the bike for a while now. Too much snow/thaw/freeze/mud/snow again going on at the moment to bother changing them over.
Going to wait until there is a sustained period of consolidated snow before I fit the BFL’s – Nate is a much better winter all rounder IMO.

I think they’re a daft idea unless you habitually ride in snow or sand

Good job I have both to ride from the door then

The snow is actually making it easier to ride through marsh/grass which is an added bonus for a short cut to the trails I ride :D

    Great pics Epic.
I’m really liking the Nates, fantastic tyres, only downside is they do seem a bit more draggy in softer conditions.

Now I have had a chance to try Nate in the snow, I am going to swap them over for Larry on the rear & BFL on front to see how they get on.

I think this kinna sums up the situation. Last winter I was the 2nd guy
Now I can ride all year, not sit on the couch eating crisps until it thaws

Also they work better if exposed to salt water, as the pistons do not seize in the calipers

Nice conditions Epic, I though you might have been out yesterday too..
More snow coming down as I type & a dodgy forecast for later in the week, going to be some good riding out there if it keeps up 8)

Not mine, but I would say they work well in really deep snow  8O

Got to consider BB height & pedal position….if you try to cycle through 1ft + of soft powder your feet are going to be covered. Most trails in Alaska that have that much snow are groomed to make them ridable.

Keen to see your drivetrain setup when it arrives Druidh, esp the PW BB. Planning a change over to Alfine next year myself

can’t do fat on a Ute, but wondering about 2.5 on wide rim?

Yep fork is threaded, so that will be going in the bin & replaced with the surly fat fork hanging on the wall of the man cave…see where this is going
Cargo bike on 3.8″ Black floyds is the future for family rides in my world :-)

Yeah, I don’t have a problem with them, very good dealings so far, just got the hump because while I was waiting for an answer on delivery costs, They sold the discounted V3 frame I had my eye on. So the Mundo frame option went from £320 to £610 over the weekend.

So…if the Ute was run with 26″ wheels, how wide a tyre would you get in the back?

    motorman

It was practical cycles who were going to charge £110 to deliver frameset to highlands…just sayin  Not their fault, just what the courier charges.

Liking the diy job Al….is that an Alfine on the back?

Does the ute have disc tabs on the rear, or is it rim brakes only?

They are brilliant and muppetwrangler, what exactly do you use to clean you on your cassette then to clean it?

Well If I feel the need, I use cotton string….think cassette floss.
Really can’t see the point of these, but that is just my opinion

I’m not quite sure of the standard configuration of the cells in those packs TBH, as i’m just using them in standard form.

I bought them from Torchy the battery boy. I already had 1 pack with a previous light, then I bought another 6.6AH pack for £30. I use his chargers for that set up.

2 MJ 872’s on the bars…2 packs in the bottle & the original battery in the rucksack More than enough for a good nights riding

    motorman

Not bought, but I made my own

Not quite as much ooomph, but 13.2 Ah if running in series, but I have left the 2 batteries running independent, with each pack at 6.6Ah.
Gives plenty of options when running 2 MJ 872’s :D

£60 & job done. Already have 2 chargers, so both packs can be recharged at same time.

I have a zip, bought earlier this year. Excellent piece of kit, perfect for bike camping.
There isn’t a lighter on the smaller zip tho, if that is a problem for you.
