I haven’t quite bought into the idea of frame bags yet myself for a numer of reasons, so I am going to be using this for my offroad touring.

Just need to imagine tent & roll mat on the back, dry bag with waterproofs on front & 3 bottles on the frame & 2 on forks & you are good for multi day unsupported trips.

I have a LHT for road touring, but also planning some trips on the fatty once the weather is good enough to change over to semi slicks. Make a really nice west coast tourer, where you don’t have to just look at those nice beaches you are riding past. It’s the future.Ken.

I can’t make the meet again this year :(

Anyway, was out yesterday on some of the lesser known trails & again I see fresh tyre prints. Im guessing it is a local, as these are pretty hard trails to find. I’m sure our paths will cross at some point 8)

What was the main reason for buying? Rear end traction? Front end washing out?
I really like these, but I have already spent too much £££ on fat rubber over the last few months

Lets not get too caught up in in weights…soon as it get properly dirty it will weight least 10lbs heavier with mud/sand/sh1te anyway

    Looks good to me :-)
Are those bag inflators? how long to blow the raft up?
Me, yesterday….kitted out the fatty for summer touring spec

I guess it depends on what your local trails are like, but I have never had a problem with Larry’s in dry conditions?

I would wait to see how much the on one’s tyres are later in the year & the new, lighter origin 8 ones.

Anyway, If it gets any drier up here, I will be fitting my Black Floyds pretty soon!!

    Triton have then too.

I don’t know of any uk fatty with these on yet, but they are supposed to be the best summer trail tyre out there according to our friends over the pond.
Come in slightly thinner than the Surly offerings, but I don’t think you can go wrong with them. Supposed to be really nice rolling tyre.

Salsa el Mariachi is what I bought for this purpose. Need to order a frame bag as it does not have rear mounts though. The alternator drop outs are great for option of going IHG or dinglespeed.

Or a fatty make a fantastic all terrain adventure bike

Or Surly LHT if it is mainly road & light offroad…

    Summer touring….sorted

I am just finishing off my 700c flat bar LHT with ergon grip/bar end combo. Will post up a pic when it is done.
From the quick test down the street, I think is is going to be a really nice ride.

Glad you had a good time Druidh, some really nice coast to explore

Having ridden a bike up here since I was a bairn, yeah, most of the stuff can be done by any bike, but a fatty can do it better, esp on the sandy coastal stuff & boggy speyside hillside. Having fun on a bike, what’s not to like?

It opens up new riding possibilities & routes you would never attempt without one.

Culbin is a great place once you head off the trails & start exploring – I’m planning another day there as soon as I get back from Norway.

Fatbikes are not the solution for all riding conditions by a long way, but they can do some things very well

I would be looking at Burghead to Findhorn, or culbin sands for a day trip.

Burghead to Findhorn is a good option at low tide for a good beach run to Finhorn, fill up on Coffee/cake, then you have the option to return via the dunes & forest. Can make a day out of it if the pace is easy going.

Lossiemouth would make a good base for the day, then take East beach in morning & West beach in afternoon.

Culbin is worth going if you take a days supplies with you, as there is nowt there. Work your way through the forest until you drop onto the beach & flats, then ride till the sun sets! Really needs to be planned around low tide, as the is some fantastic riding, but some parts do get cut off when the tide comes in (quickly) which results in a long detour along the sand bar.
It is a great place & well worth a visit 8)

It is a foot bridge crossing the river Lossie to get access to the East beach, which is like a sand bar. That & to get the yoofs motocrossers on to the beach too

Some photo’s from today’s excellent ride, from a chilly corner of NE Scotland.
Loads of different conditions, frozen river, dunes, lovely forest singletrack, shingle & beach….all top riding 8)

Do dogs feel the cold? Obviously not….

This why I love riding bikes

I just got me a set of these on Ebay. Going to be interesting to see how these work on sand. A lot of the beaches up here need to be linked to sections of road to make a good loop. Also think these will be ace for summer touring mode.

Swampies in 42a are hard to beat in regular sizes imo.
If you are a supersizer, Nates, as mentioned above, are the ultimate traction weapon.

I’m just looking for ideas folks. Never used drops before & have no real inclination to start now (Getting old, fat & have dicky back!)
Comfort is the main priority for this bike…those butterfly bars look interesting & lots of room for hanging bar bags on.
