Yes but I live in halls and I believe they throttle back the connection, its especially prevalent in the evenings when everybody is watching iplayer.

Just looked it up and google latitude would appear to record a ‘history’ if you ask it to, not sure if it tracks your routes exactly, but it will record where you have been, maybe just key locations etc.

    Android will do this.
Google maps on my HTC Desire has a function called ‘latitude’. If you and somebody have a googlemail account, and you decide to share your information with them (you have to send them an invite/they have to ask permission), then they are able to view your position in google maps.
Fairly simple to do, doesn’t require instructions, and google guides you through how to set it up.
There may be other ways of doing what you want, but I’ve tried latitude and it works well. Only thing it lacks as far as i know is a recording ability, i.e. trace your route etc, it just shows current (or last known) position. Other apps can track your routes etc, I use one (cardiotrainer) for logging my mtb routes/runs etc, then checking them out on maps at a later date.

As is mentioned above, GPS doesn’t cost, its the connection and uploading of data on foreign networks.

This is rank speculation (plus I didn’t read the last thread so may have already been suggested) but if its under load then perhaps the chainstays are bending/flexing, reducing the distance between chainring and rear sprocket, allowing the chain more slack, and so to get caught up. Alternatively are there tight/loose spots in the rotation of the chainring? This could be quite severe, enough to move the chain across. Perhaps try remounting the chainring if there are tight/loose spots, and try to make sure it is central if you can (spin and check visually for radial movement). Of course all of this doesn’t explain why on 17T and not 16T. HTH

Did you order it from the ‘from Turkey’ seller on ebay?
Might give it a punt, there’s money burning a hole in my virtual paypal account.
Does anybody else see paypal like monopoly money?

I did Pen y Fan on the way back from a funeral last year. Took about 2 hours to climb it and back down from the road, minimal kit, no map, (bit silly but could pretty much see the car half way to the top, and started out good visibility, would def take a map next time though, just in case). Its a good one, and I hadn’t done anything in years, so quite enjoyable. Good views at the top I would imagine, although when I got up there the cloud base came down and got pretty moist.

Does anybody fancy taking part in a scientific experiment?
This is a massive ask, as punctures are a pain in the arse, so I am expecting no responses, but hoping for a couple, just out of interest.

Deflate, then inflate a tyre, timing the inflation time. Providing the following information to the forum:
    A) Pump
    B) Tyre (size + model as tyres vary so much)
    C) Gurnage scale of how much effort you put in, from 0 (calm summers day) to 10 (full on gurn, veins popping out, panting, and mildly moist)

This has the potential to be a thread killer

I’ve got one and very happy with it. Feels light to me, liking the rigid front end, everything fairly hard wearing. I don’t look after it well, it goes in the uni bike sheds, then comes out and gets a ride. Cleaned once a month or so, and a bit of lube. Great fun at Swinley when I’ve taken it there, thought rigid and SS would hold me back but it made it more of a challenge and more fun. Like the general build quality and feel of it. Its a bike I like, which is important or I’d never ride it! I now ride it all the time because it is so low maintenance, compared to my geared hardtail, which isn’t too bad.

One of the tensioner screws bent. Make sure you do the axle bolts up very tightly, the tensioner screws apparently are just for alignment only. I replaced with a Surly Tuggnut as its a bit beefy.

My experiences were incredibly poor, customer service poor, signal poor, technical support poor (lack of signal and phone overheating). This was 3 years ago but I would not go back. ymmv

Or for cheapness compared to a merkur, get an old gillette superspeed or similar. I got one for £10 off ebay from the 60’s, chrome still perfect, nice to use. Depends on what you fancy though, if you like the look of merkur then go for it, I would if I had the cash.

As said above its whatever is more comfortable/natural to you. I ride goofy (right foot forward), used to skateboard right foot forward, right foot forward when pedals level on bike, etc etc. I’m right footed in that I would kick something with my right foot, but I’m rubbish at football, so not sure if I really am with co-ordination.

Basically the ice slidy thing is a way of finding out which you’re more comfortable with. Alternatively spin round lots, get really dizzy, then get somebody to shove you from behind, you will instinctively put one foot forward. This foot is the one you should have forward. Especially if it felt weird the other way round.

After a couple of weeks I started trying to learn switch (left foot forward just by going down the hill ‘backwards’) as its useful occasionally. But start off with what you feel comfortable with. I’m no expert but your instructor sounds like a tool.

Coastkid – Whats the John Muir way like? I may have to visit in the summer to ride it as he is my name sake. Rumoured to be a distant relative. Its thanks to him that all Americans know how to pronounce my last name, unlike here! ‘Hello Mr Mueeeir?’

What you saw was what I saw when comparing chains. I believe the cause is the holes of the side plates becoming ovalised, not the plates elongating (stretching). This ovalised hole means the pin to pin length is ever so slightly larger, duplicated on every link makes the chain actually longer. Its just that nothing ‘stretches’ in the conventional sense, but overall the chain stretches as the length increases. This is my take on it, but I’m ready to be corrected.

Got some 7 year old (**** me that was a long time ago!) Scarpa boots, simple brown leather upper, vibram sole under, about £80 if i remember. Did the ten tors and all training for it, dofe, numerous cadet camps, all in these, and been using them for general dicking about and in the last couple of winters. Leather only now starting to come away from the rubber sole, but been nikwaxed twice in their life and still completely waterproof, and get more and more comfortable with age. I may shed a tear when they finally die. There may be better out there as it was a while ago now, but I would thoroughly recommend Scarpa as a brand.

funny this as I am literally sat here installing my new printer!

looked around and best vfm for printing I think is what I’ve gone for, kodak esp3250 at £61 I got it for.

Gadget show reviewed it well, lots of good reviews online. Wouldn’t suit somebody who wants super high res printouts etc, but for standard printing duties and scanning its recommended.

Will let you know how it goes, but it feels sturdy and well built.

I’ve got one budget tyre on my car (old banger so matching tyres arent quite as important, due to everything being a bit wonky!). I noticed braking distances increase and cornering it would be slightly more prone to understeer. If you take the braking distances into consideration and drive accordingly then the longer it takes to stop doesnt matter so much. And slightly less grip in corners means its more of a handful at its limit. If you never go anywhere near the limit of traction then not a problem. But you doo need to be aware that in an emergency you are likely to need slightly more space to stop.

(STW disclaimer – This is an opinion that I have formed, may not relate to all budget tyres, and I am still confident I can stop quickly in the event of an incident hence I feel they are safe to drive, the only thing being if somebody say pulled out on me, in which case not much I can do even with eagle f1s on the car).

Edit: oh and seconded on the wet – less grip at its most noticeable

I don't think it's stress, just him trying to not release a tic. Just watched a few of his videos, and I'm almost certain its genuine, he's got gesticulation tics as well, clicking his fingers and slapping his head, seems pretty real and out of control to me.

Fortunately, he said he finds his condition hilarious when he looks back on it, hence why he posts it up. I think its arrrrsehoooooole funny too.
