I’ve put an LX/XT chainset on the front of a Genesis CdF, to drop the ratios.
Very little bodgery was involved, and it works fine.

On-One Midge. Often dirt cheap, sometimes not. I could flog you a set, depending on what diameter you wanted.
StJohns Cycles in Bridgwater do something better for about £30

Oh yes, I remember it well.
On my way to primary school I had to walk through a short tunnel under a railway. The drainage ducts at ground level were just the right size for a rolled-up copy of Health & Efficiency or the like. Very educational, when you’re 8 or 9.

In the late 70s I enjoyed the remarkable job of sorting through lorry-loads of dustbin rubbish to assess how much of what was in said stuff. (Part of an early recycling project) After a while I learned that a double-wrapped and tied up carrier bag of magazines was always pron. No-one bothered to wrap ordinary magazines so carefully. That was educational, too.

Loved it. Go if you can.
Beaches, wildlife, historic sites, it’s got everything.
Arugam bay is great for surfing, travel by bus not too hard.
    Just go.

Thanks for all the comments, Galloway & Brain especially.
    More are welcome.
The pigeon & needle problem wasn’t obvious when buying, as they were cleaned up for the viewings etc. First-time buyers make mistakes…

JUst buy the OS map and work it out from there – you’re only 4 miles form the foot of Ingleby Bank and the old ironstone railway track to Rosedale.
Also, 4 miles or so to Carlton Bank & up to Bilsdale.

Yes, a few times. I used to hitch-hike a lot in the 70’s (it was a standard way of travelling then, youngsters) and the hand on my knee wasn’t that rare. Usually there was nothing more than that and a few requests. You learn to turn them down gracefully, I suppose in the same way that women learn to cope with gropers.

the Nato 556 round was chosen over larger caliber rounds because it would injure or slowly kill as opposed to kill outright

But it doesn’t have the same pentrating power.
However, it’s possible for an infantryman to carry many more rounds of the smaller calibre (x2 ?) – that was the reason for the choice.

Rooflight (not too large) rather than an extra window. It’s more private, more secure, better ventilation when static.

rear view camera, v useful especially if wired in permanently instead of just when in reverse gear.

There were no merino tops in the St Georges store in Bristol, by 2:30pm. The £12:99 pair of lights are pretty neat though.

Sizing for tops is small. On me, the L mens was tiny. Mrs M couldn’t get her Med ladies top on, but my L mens fitted her fine. Her top will have to go back. On a positive note, butter is 40p / pack cheaper than in my local Co-op.

I recall our old hoovers being excellent.

I suspect that you didn’t actually do the hoovering. The non-replaceable bags blocked after a couple of minutes, and the ones with disposable bags cost a fortume to run (the disposable razor marketing model) The rotating brushes also jammed on lego bricks and burned out the belts regularly.

Dyson is a guy who has decades of experience bringing electrically-powered devices to a consumer market, most of which last longer and perform better than the competition. He’s made billions.

There’s a good chance that it will be an excellent vehicle.

Dyson also has its R&D centre in the UK, even though they manufacture in Asia now. They are good at patent protection, too, so I could see some unique features being included which set them apart from the competition.
    Here’s hoping.

    There’s stupidity and there’s stupidity:

    Knickers to Snowdon

Knowing the risks and assessing them is important, but people don’t get taught. Pen-Y-Fan is a good example – I’ve twice turned back from climbing it from the northern approach because of bad weather.

There’s a sense of freedom about swimming outdoors. I’m a member of an open air swimming club in Bristol which owns a drowned quarry in the suburbs. The quarryment hit a spring which filled up the hole.
We have sessions all the year raound for the hardy, but the main season is May-September. I’m a wuss, and stop when the water gets below 17c or so. but don’t use a wetsuit.

To my shame, I’ve never had a Parmo, as I left Stockton in the 70s before they were invented. One day, perhaps. This thread is making me hungry.

Can you lso save cash by flying to another US airport then driving a few hours? I’ve flown to Baltimore instead of DC for this reason, then taken a train.

    Use a microwave!
    110g butter,
    75g brown sugar
    4tbs/60g syrup
    225g oats or muesli
pinch of salt, squeeze of lemon juice.

Melt the butter & sugar first (microwave)
    Add in the rest
Put in a ceramic/pot flatbottomed dish,

About 5 mins in a microwave.

Any career to be made in warhousing/logistics?

Yes. Young Miss Moses went into logistics for a major drinks maufacturer after uni, and at 25 was a team leader, earning £30k+. She’s moved on to another food industry company managing supply chain now. Getting the right supplies into the factory and drinks or whatever on all the right shelves of all the right supermarkets with minimum transport and storage costs is difficult. Liaison with producers and packaging manufacturers is also needed.
What about Nissan or one of its suppliers?

IF the sticky bit’s just around Brum, M42/M6 (toll) might save some time.
But the Stafford-Stoke -section can be just as awful.

    Go to the Brecons instead!

And so do most West Africans.

Nope, they don’t understand UK/US English, but Pidgin they do. That’s why there’s a BBC service there. It’s a “soft power” thing. I’d be interested to know whether the US or China have a similar service there.

Some time ago I did the sums for a thought experiment:
Suppose a team of scientists wanted to breed large mice, and kept going century after century.
Assuming that over a working lifetime of 40-50 years, each breeder only managed to increase the average mouse size by 1%, almost experimental error in biology.
Then, after only a million years, (or was 100,000?) these mouse descendents would be the size of elephants. That’s what evolution can do.

Im not clear about what you actually have to pass over to a developer.
Are you effectively saying, this is a problem, produce a solution for me and I’ll run with it? Or ca nyou show a prototype that needs improving?

In cycling analogies, are you telling your developer: I want you to find a way of stopping my chain slipping off my chainring, or

Design me a chainring with alternating narrow & wide teeth to mesh better with the chain? Some clarification might be useful.

An idea isn’t patentable, so far as I know.
You need to design it first….. describe it clearly, make it, show yourself it works. Talk to an IP lawyer.
