If you’ve got roof bars, you do not need carriers.
Drop the seats as low as possible. Invert the bikes, and use bungies to strap the bike handlebars and seats to the roof bars. 4 per bike. Wrap a bungy several times round the grips and bars, use 2 around the seat. I’ve carried 4 bikes across Europe like this, no problems.

Chard. It’s a good cropper and tastes good. It’s like spinach but hardier.

An argument with a colloid scientist who thought he knew something about small molecule drug development. He was wrong.

Best argument I have had for months.

    Not me, either.
I fell off & hit my ribs yesterday, and find even walking difficult today.

No idea. It must be 30 years since I walked there. Mind, it starts from the area in which chaps who like chaps, meet each other.

    My grandfather.

(Not officer class, so he couldn’t be a pilot. But he was a rigger on SE5a’s in the RAC)

He was the squadron librarian, and actually in the squadron that Biggles was supposed to be in. He was given WE Johns signed copies of all the Biggles books, but they disappeared after the war.

My local chiroproactic sorted out my back / leg / shoulder problems which had more-or-less incapacitated me. It did involve some heavy pelvis realignment, as my legs previously had more than an inch difference in their lengths. Now down to a quarter inch-ish.

As above: Is there any reason that would prefvent you from offering the job to me?
They say – yes, we have other candidates to interview?
You say – So you are convinced of my abilities etc to do the job properly & be an asset to you….

And tell them that you want to work for them, too!

Snigle & Smee, out of interest.

    Ton ‘cos he sounds OK

Cap’n Fishheart ‘cos I’m not sure he exists.

    Bumley because…

I’ve met Rudeboy (briefly) IRL – he’s fine.
I’d be wary about Smee & the bloke who runs a printing shop in Lancashire, but they might turn out fine.

I’m too wet & liberal, me.

    Either?

Look at the skills & experience of the applicants, not their sex, age, colour, sexuality.

I don’t live there now, but:
It’s the real birthplace of railways (not bloody Swindon, Mr Nutt)
It’s where the friction match was invented. That’s two of the most important inventions of the 19th century.
It claims the widest high street in England.
    It’s now a right sh1thole.
Ridley Scott (Bladerunner, ALien, Gladiator, Thelma & Louise etc) went to school there (my school), and the opening shots of Bladerunner with gouts of flame shooting from chimneys etc, was supposedly based upon his memories of the nearby chemical works.

How about taking the train from Glos?
    No stress.

The last 3 miles at that time could take you 30 mins.

Since Manchester claimed a couple of physics-related facts, how about this:

On my way to the pub (the Welly) I pass: the house where Paul Dirac was born. He’s less well-known than Einstein, but as brilliant.
Then a school which Indira Gandhi attended.
Then the house where Cary Grant was born.

RudeBoy- I disagree with some of the above, but it’d take too long to write why.
But you’re right, we need to address the issues behind social problems.

Rude Boy – if addicts could get free drugs, why would there be a need to rob the dispensaries? They are targeted now becasue the drugs are illegal and expensive.
Heroin is not an overly dangerous drug, when administered properly.

Criminalisation of prostitution-related activity is causing the problems, like criminalisation of drugs causes crime.

Yes, abortion is legal in the UK, up to (I think) 20 weeks from conception.

It’s also illegal to solicit in England (dunno about Scotland) – and kerb-crawling is illegal.

But prostitution is legal, hence escorts / call-girls / whores can make a legal living. It’s pimps and madames that can’t.

    Moses

    It’s legal already.

I’ve seen an adder on a road near Oxford that was almost a meter long. They’re often a bluey-grey colour, and the zog-zig markings are often indistinct.

    NickNoxx, yes.

On the road NE from the CPG carpark toward Nether Stowey, there’s a good pull-off about 400m away, called Dead WOman’s Ditch. I’ve stayed there in our van a couple of times (& might be there the Saturday night)
Another few hundred metres down the hill is another more secluded car park. Take a spade to dig sanitary pits with, though. Leave no litter.
