Not me. I’m retired & my pension was mostly taken by the financial services bandits.

But I’ve met two STWers who seem to be rolling in it – good for them.

    It’s market-dependent.
In some areas you may be expected to bid more than the list price, in others, less.

Compare downtown San Francisco with Detroit, for instance.
Around here (Bristol, UK) , prices tend to be “offers in excess of” for popular areas. Successful bids seem to be 5% over list.
In Hartlepool it might be different.

Go to a decent shop & get measured properly. I have been wearing too-large boots for years because I thought that my feet were broader than they actually are.
    It’s all in the fit.
If you ever go down the A1 head to Altberg in Richmond, who have a huge selection of sizes and fits including some that don’t seem to be available from other manufacturers. Make a fitting reservation first.

    Can you explain why

working from home I can’t have people google my address and seeing those results.

It happened, that was reflected in the sale price, live with it.
Or should Auschwitz also be renamed Krakow Kampingplatz?

FWIW, an ex-girlfriend lives in the house where a relative of mine slit his own throat. She doesn’t seem to mind the history

When fitting our new bathroom we included a “muslim shower” next to the loo – a shower hose that can reach the undercarriage for bidet-style cleanliness after crapping.

It’s also great for hosing down the campervan cassette and other assorted mucky stuff.

Portugal. I know there’s a gravelled Algarve route away form the man roads, & seem to remember some north-south bike routes too.

Once a day in the mornings, plus after a dirty ride.
I only use shower gel / shampoo every few days, usually it’s just water.

If it’s anything like either Brac or the Velebit area, there will be lots of gravel roads and donkey tracks to ride on, away from the main tourist centres.

    The Highway Code, innit ?
So that the walkers can see traffic approaching them, instead of having motor vehicles passing them from behind without warning.

Hmm, reminds of a comment from a Brit in Flaine:
    “You must be English?”
    “Eh?”
    “Millets”
I gave a Gallic shrug and flounced.

Mrs M used to wear a Marmot fleece. The logo lettering was somewhat run together, so she was asked a couple of times: Do you work at the Marriott? What do you do there?

The fleece went to a charity shop.

Trekster: have a look at the long thick Lands End coats, which sell well in the US north-eastern states. Mrs M (again) rates them, after having a foot op last winter she also had problems generating wnough warmth. Tights under trousers help, too.

    Urinate on bonfires mode:
About 250,000 people a year do this route now, around a thousand a day in the season. According to friends who’ve done it, it’s like a procession at times: think of the queues at Snowdon’r summit.

I second the vote for stainless.
We find that it burns casseroles less than a Le Creuset – our megapricey LeC cannot handle either jam or thick stews without burning. Even midpriced stainless pans seem to handle low slow cooking better than cast iron.
I do love my massive Lodge frying pan, though.

Giant used to sell a 20″ wheel folder with a lefty-type fork. The Half-Way, I think. I liked mine more than any other folder I’ve used. So the patents are either available to licence, or can be worked around

Vaccuum clean the carpets and all soft furnishings. The eggs take a week to hatch, the mini-maggots eat dead skin, fur, etc. If you suck up the eggs and maggot food the fleas won’t hatch. Often the eggs are resistant to insecticde, but not to a hoover.

The real need is for greater parity of wages. Since the 70s wages have risen more for the richest 10% than for the rest. If everyone had an accepable wage there wouldn’t be the pressure from the rich to protect their offspring from downward mobility. If the average van driver or shop worker could afford a decent home and lifestyle then mobilty, (that is, the movement of all people innto the jobs most appropriate to them and their abilities) could come back.

    I recommend a bike-mounted light.
Car drivers and other users expect vehicle lights to be at a particular level above the ground, and (in my opinion) don’t register helmet lights as being from a vehicle – they get confused with other urban lighting.

it just proves the whole country is walking on glass, and is expecting something to happen at any given time. this is the new way of living, expect a terrorist attack. have it in the media a while then wait on the next and repeat.

The risks were so much greater in the 70s, with the IRA bombings. However that was treated as crime, not <shock horror> terrorism. Have we lost the ability to be stoic?

Yes, always. It’s rue not to, and I can alsways politely tell cold callers to go away if nedessary.
Usually it’s a neighbour calling about a parcel or letting us know they’ll be away. We also hold some neighbours’ keys so they call on us if they have locked themselves out. That used to be common when they had teenagers coming home at all hours.

I used to fly a lot for work, & reckoned that the stress of planning to get through quickly wasn’t worth it, so 90 mins minimum before departure. Then coffee and a nibble.

My brother-in-law and wife managed to miss a flight from LGW this summer, after allowing 90mins to get through. They complained that the queues were too long….
