Craster is lovely. We spent a week in a cottage by the harbour. It's got a good walk to Dunstanburgh Castle.

DOn't expect to swim in the sea unless you're tough

Not cycling but walking: Mrs M was told to "Get orff my land" by Guy Ritchie recently. His current girlfriend, Jemima Puddleduck, looked unimpressed.

Is the boss the same person as the office manager?
If so, then you just have to risk being fired & ask them to document everything.

If not, talk to the boss.
Or just point out that they have the legal problems because of the nit-picking etc, and that if you have documented the problems *ie take notes) then their case will look worse in court

    Roter Stern –
    That happened to me, too.
Left in Marrakech by Ryanair with the promise they'd fly us home on the next flight with available seats. Which happened to be in 4 weeks time!

We had to fight for our refunds, but no compensation for spending £800 to get home.

If you can't get a good payback for solar water heating, you won't for PV, either. It's much less efficient.

Solid CO2 is dry ice, used by many ice-cream vans and theatres.
So I guess you could get a dry ice "sand" that could be forced into tyres…
Controlling the pressure might be an art, though

    Thanks, Stoner.

    BD – wonderful.
Hora – you seem very insecure to me.

I will raise my head over the parapet once more:
Twenty years ago I did have a brief fling with another woman. My wife found out, we argued like mad, we stayed together. I think that our relationship actually improved afterwards, as I appreciated what I had nearly lost much more than before.

So, forgiveness worked in our favour.
And I reckon I'd forgive her, too.

    >> I've also talked about this with Russian & French colleagues, who have a very different attitude.
In Russia, it's almost obligatory to have a bit on the side, for both sexes, and the French are tolerant to the point of not caring. Don't ask, don't tell, seems to be the motto

    Probably, yes.
As before, it depends on the circumstances, but sex is only one part of a relationship and if you love and like your partner and know them well, I think that a drunken one-night-stand is forgiveable.
It's certainly not worth splitting up a family for.

You could be right about which pub it was. I remember the geography rather than the name, & the Mont was only 50yds from the Cadbury.

She says that Tricky taught her to play pool in the Cadbury House, Montpelier, when she was a student at Bristol in the 80s.
If it's true, good for her. It's not the best area.

    Yes, I like it.
    Business is bloody slow, though

I don't know that's true. There are plenty of people on minimum wage who work extraordinary hours to make ends meet. Similarly, I know people in call centres who work stupid hours under great pressure – I'm sure they wish they were paid like bankers, too.

Yes, the banking world pays well and there are some good people in there, but I'm sure that society would be better off if they were paid half as much for normal hours.

I must admit, I am jealous of the salaries there because I see the relatively poor wages paid to professionals of similar capability in jobs of more social worth and I can't understand why it's happening.

Surely the point is that unfettered capitalism results in conditions of near-slavery for a large proportion of the population, needing a social control by the state to ensure justice /fairness. Unfettered socialism leads to market breakdowns and the divorce of people's needs from what is provided.

The best systems seem to be those balancing towards socialism where needs are generally universal such as schools, health, pensions, public transport; but capitalism where needs are more individualised.

    I used to collect stamps as a kid, but since no-one writes letters these days I guess they are worthless now;

And bike frames, redundant bike bits, must have a real clearout soon to keep MrsM happy.

"Hadn't realised until tonight but I agree with Winston Churchill. I am totally sick of major government intervention in everything I do."

    Quite right too.
Bloody government, provided me with education that my parents couldn't have afforded, kept my wife & kids alive through the health service, builds the roads I use, organised the utilities until they were privatised, pays for the police and army etc.

Just get rid of it, that's what I say.

Did you actually read the conditions attached to the offer?
No-one took him up on it because no reputable professional would give the time to take 2 exams set by the challenger (pass marks 100%, 90%, ,to be marked by the challenger), get certified sane, etc etc etc – It's an impossible task if you look at it closely

The side effects listed above are obviously minor, but what do you make of the people who say their child suddenly changed after having the vaccine, as in couldn't walk, lost all their energy?

You mean un-reported side-effects? That somehow you know about and the medics don't? Do tell us more.

I agree with Jackson. Try to find what company the job is with, then call directly – stating that you are NOT an agent.
Sometimes the agents blurb is lifted directly from the company website advert, so a google can find the original ad.

That sounds stupidly tough. It's bad enough to lose the girl, but when she takes the child and dog, it's cruel.

Rambling? Running? Borrow a bike? (One of mine if you're short and near Bristol)

Why didn't your wife ask them, if she's so concerned?

If you leave a box with magazines out, why shouldn't someone reuse them?
Around here, there seems to be a policy of leaving unwanted goods on the garden wall so that anyone passing can help themselves. We've got rid of loads of stuff that way, and also acquired shelving etc. It works well.

I used to love it, but wasn't good enough for a short board although my Alpha 230 was good in light winds. I bought it in 83, gave it away a couple of years ago.

What I do remember was going to Portland on business, then spending a couple of hours windsurfing before coming home – it was great.
That, and that it took so effing long to pack all the kit into & onto the car, get it ready, and then stow it again afterwards. Too much effort for just an hour or so on the water.

What – no "It's fun" as a reason for riding a bike?

I remember, but can't quote the source, that parenting classes are really good way of improving the way kids are brought up, and long-term are very cheap compared with the costs of criminality & unemployment.

    So there

Accept, but say you want to keep it less intense to start with. Perhaps that's why the relationships broke up: too much, too soon.

If he won't accept a gentle start, that's his problem.

What do you expect to happen in 8 hours in an insulated box that starts from cold?
