Well if you’re goon get biblical, remember that Moses was in fact (or fiction) adopted as a baby.

    But

Men should not be given the opportunity to avoid their duties as a father

And further, children should always have a right to know who their parents really are.

If you’re giving sperm, then you are not being a father, you’re just providing a biological hand, as it were.

And WHY should children have that right? Many of us don’t and many of us have the wrong information, like the girl above. It’s a bit of a Pandora’s Box.

Elfin, blood samples are anonymous becasue they’re often mixed; a recipient can have blood or extracts thereof, from many donors in a single session.

However, GT72’s comments are bunkum in the context of sperm donation, where the biological father is helping another person become a parent against the odds. In this context the “father” is the partner of the recipient.

perhaps you should just change the venue to Ashton Court, where there will be many cyclists keen to buy old tat?

We had a pigeon fly through one of our windows a few years ago so there’s no reason that crow couldn’t break some old pre-float glass panes.

Making stuff is intrinsically better because it can be exported. Most service jobs can’t. Hairdressers? Lawyers? They depend upon contact. Yes, the city earns money from abroad but the service roles that are not location dependent are easily lost, hence the outsourcing of IT and call centres. Many service roles are essentially parasitic, there are basically 3 ways to create measurable wealth, you can dig stuff out of the ground, grow stuff, or make stuff out of the things you’ve got from the ground.

The city’s tax burden is only an artifact of the high salaries. If I took 10% of the salary of everyone i came into contact with I’d pay a huge amount of tax. It doesn’t mean that I’m adding value to the economy.

    Yep.
Perhaps a bullet with a pointed cylindrical tungsten core and a less dense sheath would benefit from shedding the sheath.

In which case the answer is no.
I’d say that it would travel less far as the air resistance would remain the same (+-) but the inertia & mass of the reduced slug would be less.

He probably inferred that from a burgeoning semi.

You’ve got to remember that the US is the size of Europe: we don’t think that someone who’s been to a dozen European countries is insular but we laugh at Yanks who’ve never left the East Coast tho they’ve been in many states from subtropical Florida to Maine.
    Travel is different there.
Some aspects are bad, some good. I sometimes enjoy my visits, sometimes not.

Nope, you can have fun on a £300 bike, an average person’s weekly take-home pay. In ’97 my GT Karakorum was £600 – rigid forks, 7 speed. Cycling is cheap if you want it to be, and it can be done almost anywhere; there’s no need to join a club or travel to take part.
    It’s a very democratic sport.

Gerona / Girona in Spain: a lovely romantic walled city with flights from London.
There is some great walking about 30 miles away with decent bus services so you don’t need to hire a car. We bussed to Olot then taxied to Santa Pau, a small medieval village with extinct volcanoes all around.

Mine’s an ebay purchase, a BT Paragon which is OK, and a Sennheise headset for the phone.

BUT in practice I call from my laptop with a £25 / Q paid skype account and a cheap twin-ear headset from Maplins. The advantage of skype is that landline calls are covered by the subscription and I can call in 2 clicks from salesforce or Excel and probably other applications as well.

If anyone wants my Victor 286 or 386 laptops, they’re welcome.
The 286 comes with Mono screen, 20MB disk & Windows 1, I think.

We have a 32L Deuter surplus to requirements, model Futura 32AC.
Although 3-ish years old it’s hardly used, as it was ought for my wife but was the wrong shape for her hips.

    Is your chain stretching?

Yes, I have had a teenage daughter.
I’ve also been a pretty teenage boy myself and been in some unpleasant situations (I used to hitchhike alone throughout Europe; it was common in the late 60s / 70s) – so I know that crime is down to the perpetrator, not the victim.

    Shheesh.
I did go down to Stokes Croft to buy a poster for Mrs M – by 11am the queue was around the block. Early arrivers were allowed to buy 5 posters, then it was reduced to 2, then 1 each. By 12;30 they were on ebay for £150.

I wonder if the revenue from eBay sales will go to the Anarchist Book Shop?

The Banksy exhibition a couple of years ago was the first art exhibition which made me laugh out loud; it had both excellent execution and some really good ideas behind the artwork.
He is an artist for our times, with both expensive originals for the rich and cheap prints for the poor(er). He produces democratic art.

Cheesy, SAinsbury’s used to sell Marmite & PB mixed under the name of “Savoury Peanut Butter” . I t was yummy. They withdrew it about 10 years ago, much to my dismay.

    Banksy is a Bristolian.
A few days ago there was a small riot protesting at the opening of a new Tesco Metro in an inner-city area of Bristol where there are a number of small local shops.
It is suggested that the police incited the riot by raiding a nearby multi-occupancy house.

3rd for the pickpockets. I’ve had attempts on my wallet twice when there; at a conference a few years ago we reckon that over 3 days about 10% of the delegates had their purses or wallets nicked.
    Fun!

You youngsters don’t know what you’re missing.
The great advantage of maxi dresses was that a young lady could “sit” upon her boyfriend in a park or picnic-spot in full view of passers-by, while appearing to be perfectly innocent.
    Happy days.

The Watershed, upstairs cafe & bar. Good for views if you get a window seat, people-watching if you don’t.

Also half the cafes on Park Street.

Are you using any cutting fluid with the jigsaw?
I think the blades are probably overheating and softening. You need a way of cooling the operation. Can you take it to a metal shop?
