    Mama – so cool.
I just hope I learn to wheelie before I turn 60.

More importantly, how does it ride?
I like the appearance if not the colour.

    I feel your pain.
3 times in 2 years? Someone needs their kneecaps removed.

Hels, that’s not the issue with Elsevier.
The issues include their bundling pricing policy, the fact they they publish publicly funded research but charge massive amounts for it, and the way that reviewers are expected to work for free.
In effect, they are lending their name out to scientists for a fat fee.

    PLoS1 provides an alternative model.

    – I have worked with many STM publishers, I do know something about their operations.

Just carry a small chain tool as well – the Park one folds flat, takes up little space & works very well.

Sounds like one of Cameron’s smoothies to me, trendy spex ‘n’all.

However it sounds like reasonable behaviour to me, so long as he had a drink and/or snack. It would be less than a penn’orth of power.
As a rep (international business traveller to you, mate) I often use my laptop in pubs when travelling and it’s neveer raised a comment.

Nice, I camped not far away from there last weekend, at Honey Street.
The Westeley Woods are quite pleasant to ride in, too.

As for crop circles, Mrs M is a Wiltshire farmer’s daughter. When crop circles were first reported widely he was quite dismissive – something on the lines of, “huh, they’re nothing new, we’ve been getting them on the farm at least since the 1940s”
Thye were quite simple ones, apparently, just single circles of flattened grass or crops.

She didn’t have to do it in a busy restaurant, especially after I’d told her I couldn’t even watch Holby City due to my fear of needles.

It’s like those militant breast feeders. Yeah, we know you have to do it, and you have every right to do it anywhere, but really??? Do you really have to do it whilst people are trying to eat???

Now we know why you’re still single.
Yes, diabetics have to inject when their insulin levels drop. What do you suggest she does, drop into a fit so you can continue to be squeamish?

As for breast-feeding – why not? Feeding is what adults do in a restaurant, why not babies? Babies’ hunger is not subject to standard dining hours. If it needs food, it gets food.

Somehow I suspect you’re either not a father, or are somewhat repressed.

    🙂

It’s amazing what 2 years of going past Billingham’s ICI works on the top deck of a bus can do to a man’s imagination.

What she actually said was that maths assessment needed changing, not the teaching. Basically, the working party want to change the examination system for the subject.
That’s not too contentious, is it?

I’ve had two visits this week, once to repair a badly chipped molar & one for a filling. I was impressed by how easy & painless it was, but more so by the Polish dental assistant who is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. Thank you lord, for the distraction.
Did I mention that she is gorgeous?

That would be great, thanks. No, Stafford’s only about 5 miles away. Does she have a single sister?

I’ve had a skewer break under tension but the fork retention lugs held the ends of the QR in place. I generally use QRs with a cut-out window, & have the ends ziptied to the fork for safety.

I’m pleased you put up the Bristol docks – they’re destined to become the social housing of 2020 I reckon. And just opposite are some hideous flats that started falling down after ooh, at most 5 years. I must find a photo.

Simple. They buy it because it’s cheap. It’s cheap because there is no tax paid and no expensive advertising costs to cover.

Yes, a badly-operated still can allow poisons into the product, but a well-operated illegal still cwill give a product just as good as legal commercial operation. It’s only chemical engineering, isn’t it?

Field & Trek online had Karrimor cyclists’ breathable jackets for about £20 last time I looked. Very good value for the money.

Alcohol, cannabis, coca & opium & their derivatives are all natural remedies in their own way. They didn’t seem to be much help in the end.

Resigning from most of my current job on Tuesday or Wednesday, starting another late August.

Anyone living between Stoke and Stafford want a part-time lodger ?

I’d like to go while I’m coming, I think, preferably with someone athletic and female and pretty.

Either that or a heroin overdose, which is supposed to be pleasurable & painless. It’s the NHS preferred exit, anyway.

Trespass (in England, anyway) is a civil offence, not criminal.
So sue them, see how far you get.

What’s the big deal? They put some scaffolding up, then were presumably told the job was cancelled, they removed the scaffolding. What’s wrong with that?

I’ve done the 100 miles (almost exactly) from Reading station to Bristol in one long day, also with Mrs M in 2 days. It gets a bit messy around Pewsey, but not a problem.

I recommend the Barge at Honey Street as a pub on the canal with camping attached.

Mrs M’s cousin saw a black puma / panther a few years back in the FoD.
She’s a farmer and the puma was on their land so the size was obvious, and she knows the difference between big dogs, wild boar & other animals of the same size.

Is there any evidence to show that the rich will move overseas if they are taxed more heavily? Perhaps the super-rich without businesses here will, but how can a doctor or an accountant or corporate lawyer up sticks away from their clients?

50% tax on the top slice of top incomes doesn’t seem too much, especially as the richest 10% of earners are earning proportionally much more than the rest of us, than was the case 20 years ago.

My local one had a very nice 2010 Spesh “Langster” for sale at only £300 recently, except that it had a steel (not ali) frame in the wrong colour, steel forks instead of carbon, and a quill stem. Oh, and the dropouts were vertical, not trackends.

I reckon it was a 1980s conversion with a nice transfer.

John_drummer – haven’t you noticed how humans are adapted to water?
Slight webbing between our digits, tendency to fat covering like all water mammals of our size, nostrils that flare / close, babies that can swim á la Nirvana cover, lack of hair on our bodies, etc etc ?
