Just to give you an idea how disfunctional his in-laws are, the brother-in-law has never been outside the USA

That’s not dysfunctional, that’s normal. The US is the size of Europe, Georgia on its own is almost the size of England. How many people do you know who’ve never been outside of Europe & the Med?

Apart from that, I appreciate the thread. I’m still working out how to get my own son out of home. He’s not quite 29, but finding a job is hard for him.

What do you find so attractive about villages?
The right suburb could be your answer. Some parts of Bristol are quite villagey in feel in spite of being very urban. You meet the same people, get known in the local shope, take kids to the local school. Places to investigate include W-o-T and Southville / Ashton.

About 40%, but 2 “only” need flats fixing.
There’s the one which spewed me off a week ago, and a couple of wrecks in a friends garage. Do those still count as bikes?

Yes, check tension at several points on a rotation. Are you using SS chain?
I use a tugnut equivalent on the drive side, to stop the axle slipping forward

As above. 6am is first flights of the day time, and tends to be busy. The service roads & parking can also get more congested than normal.

Yes, the threat was reported – all part of the evidence against the killer. He was only sentenced yesterday and isn’t a young bloke, so we’re hoping he dies before his release. But Nicky still has this threat hanging over her head.

    EDIT:
The reports which I read first hadn’t enough detail. Another paper says that the minimum term will be 28 years. That’s enough. He’ll die inside. Thank God for that.

It will make us considerably poorer. War is an expensive business, & we pay the US for a huge proportion of our supplies.

If she’s a good tenant & can get housing benefit, keep her.
You’ll likely have a void if she leaves, so would lose out anyway. It may be worth asking if she knows any girlfriends who could share.

Talk to them first before doing anything else

    It’s the free-range dog.
I don’t like them, whether cycling or walking. They’ll come up & have a bark & a sniff, then the owner will tell you how friendly their pooch is. Unless of course it’s had its nose in your lunch bag, in which case they’ll keep quiet.
Walking the Pennines last week, 2 bloody dogs had a go, twice they wouldn’t return to their owners.

The cyclists we met were fine, they said Hi, we said Hi. They even said thanks when I held a gate open for them.

Why did he split up with his exes? Have you met any of them? I guess he made them feel unworthy of his attentions, too.

Of course, if you want real advice, you need to ask this on

Noteeth, sorry for leaving early on Tuesday.
As I see it, much depends on getting hold of the base information on which the case for Cumberland Road was calculated. That’s the best (financial) reason for challenging.
The loss of greenspace is a good non-financial reason, but whether that will work is a question.

Have a look at the Hargreaves Lansdown website, there’s a lot of good stuff on there. Yes, they may make money from you if you use them as brokers, but the options are explained clearly.

Oddjob: mostly bowlers with razor-steel rims, I guess?

Clippers set at 0 for me, these days.
Over the last 15 years the clip length has been steadily shortening. I may get to the wet shave soon. I like it short, & my daughter likes the feel of head stubble so I get the occasional head massage too.

    Nowt to do with bicycles.
A hand-shower / Muslim shower / hand-bidet thing, for washing one’s undercarriage instead of using loo paper.

Look at the trousers, not the label. Try an in-house brand at Debenhams or John Lewis or M&S. Don’t be a snob, don’t believe that a “name” will guarantee quality, try the above. M&S are still great for office wear.

It will depend on how old you are & the terms of the final salary pension.
    My guess is 25-30%.

Assuming I had enough money and plenty of friends there, then southern France, possibly the Roanne. Or the Caribbean for the warmth & water sports.
    DEfinitely not Scotland!

The wedding I enjoyed most was the smallest & cheapest: registry office & a big meal afterwards for not very many people.

The two most expensive weddings I’ve been to were least fun, and both ended in divorce.

I think there’s a moral in there somewhere, so if you’re spending north of £5k, you’re doing something wrong.

What position are your feet in when walking? If you have dew-beaters then sticky-out knees would be a normal consequence of this.
Cleats aligned straight ahead will bork your knees, in this case.

Buy some Endura Singletrack trousers or the equivalent, comfy & designed for cycling.
Alternatively, learn to sew & patch, which is what I used to do in the olden days. 🙂

And when it’s not exended, it’s considerably more compressed than a normal camper. So not great for chucking stuff in, or for cheeky camping in the wild.

    Shib:

This is pure speculation, of course, but if I was of the gay persuasion, I would have thought a reputation for heft of cock would put me off inviting a man to insert it into one of my tightest orifices. Also, call me old fashioned, but the choice of dancers suggests he has similar taste to me

My gay chums often express a preference for the well-hung men, so I think you’re wrong.
I also suspect the choice of dancers is to improve the appeal of the song / video to the straight majority, & nothing to do with his taste. They’re pretty girls, I do admit.

You have to admit that the situation of near-naked women strutting around pimped-up fully-clad blokes is sexist and getting on for misogynistic.

    You absolute sod.
Skipton is the place I’d most like to live in. If my wife had been able to find a job in the area when I was working in Leeds, I’d have moved like a shot.
It’s a real town, close enough to cities for high culture, very close to wonderful countryside. In fact, fancy a wife-swap so i can move instead?

    I laughed at one comment:

We also miss some of the things that our London suburb was really good at, particularly having loads of parks with kids playgrounds within walking distance.

All of Skipton is within walking distance if you can find a house there – and some are wonderful. If she gets the job, go for it. Your kids will thank you for the rest of their lives.

What do you enjoy doing? And how will you travel once you’re there?

I have two suggestions based on experience, both of which involve taking a train out of Nice.
There’s a fabulous train going out of the main station towards Torino through the Bas Alpes. Sospel is a small town with some accommodation, lots of riding & waking around. There are other towns with stations along the way, some of which are fabulous. Breil & Tende may be on the line.

Edit: the train has half-carriages set out for carrying bikes. There will be bags of space if you’re planning to ride there.

There’s a narrow-guage railway running from a separate station, going NW through some lovely countryside. Entrevaux is a tine town which might suit you. Check them all out.

    12 gigapixels you mean?
That’s high resolution! Is it an airborne spy camera?

You may need to RTFM again.
Start with an 8GB, and see how it goes

Look at the work which Iwona does at Iwobar.net
She’s both an artist & a web designer, and has created logos.
She’s partly freelance, and will not be expensive.

I suspect that a fair few BTL properties on interest-only loans will be sold at fire-sale prices, & will start a drop in housing prices in a few years time.
I’ve avoided interest-only loans precisely because the future is uncertain.

Why bother printing a mudguard when a moulded one will be easier & cheaper to make?
3D will be useful for just that: complex 3D shapes. I see the main nearterm market being sintered metal objects.

    pfft. £300?
I’d flog you a Dawes Edge One frame for £85.
Aluminium, no disc brake fittings, nice condition, 17″.
The first of the big manufacturers’ singlespeed frames.
It’s now replaced by a Haro Mary, which I love
