If you’re flying from Bristol, go to Nice then take the train beyond Sospel into the low Alps, lots of singletrack there.
    Or browse this: http://www.vttour.fr/sentiers/

    Where do you live?
It’ll be different in Kensington or Keighley.

My son pays £50 /week in Bristol, but I reckon as a room in a flat would cost him £70/week with all bills on top, he’s getting away with an excellent deal.

+1 for buying a tent from Gumtree or similar, also a stove & basics. But sleeping bags are worth getting new, & good. for kids, buy synthetic fill as they will get cold & wet.
You can use family pans – no need to buy new! remember the cleaning kit and extra towels

Fantastic for washing babies in, feet, bottoms.

Also for soaking really dirty clothes.

And when Mrs M is occupying the washbasin & I want a quick splash wash.

I’d get one if you’re thinking of breeding, but otherwise a bigger shower is a better idea, or a Muslim shower / hand shower positioned next to the loo.

Much as my father-in-law & I disliked each other, I believed him about this. The drunken idiot theory wouldn’t produce so consistent a phenomenon. Farmers tend not to be mistaken about damage to crops, especially as the breeds available in the 40s to 60s were harder to recover after they’d been laid flat.

However, knowing the location I can think of two other potential explanations for his circles that don’t involve faking: downdraft winds / willy-willies , as the fields in question were close to the edge of Salisbury Plain; or the results of military trials, as the farm is not far from a number of testing ranges and 20 barren miles from Boscombe Down.

    Cougar,

rather than being extra-terrestrial in origin, they were in fact crafted by a couple of old blokes on the way home from the pub using a plank and a bit of rope. Largely because they admitted to it about twenty years ago

Yeah, but why bother in the 1940s when the fields the circles appeared in weren’t en route to any pub? And why continue for 3 decades without any publicity whatsoever? Yes, there were fakes, but those were in the 70s. I doubt that the blokes who owned up to circle-making were old enough to drink when my father-in-law first got them.

They exist alright, but circles rather than the fancy fake designs.
When crop circles first attracted the Woo crowd, my father in law grunted something on the lines of “They’ve been around since I was a lad”, (1940s) and specified what fields they happened in. He was a farmer in Wiltshire, a few miles from Warminster & Westbury, and a grumpy cynical old sod, so I believed him.

It snowed when I visited in february. It’s in the low Alps, so it can get cold

The Leigh Woods / AC tracks will be rideable if slippy, they’re gravel based and rarely impassable

I guess that in Waily Mail world, all immigrants are either living on benefits or taking our jobs.

I suppose that Brits abroad are doing the same, when they’re not taking their UK benefits and not contributing to UK society.

Well, it may be a super moon but it will also be a New Moon, which means there is nothing to see except perhaps a thin strip of glow around its perimeter.
And it’ll be up during the day, not night! Moonrise at about 6:45, setting around 3:30.

The Royal I had in 1968 was a fine bike. 5-speed, cottered cranks, Mavic brakes. It took me from the NE down to Ipswich & back, & across the Lakes.
A modern version might be even better.

    Ride more.
Make a short tour as practice for something longer, say a 1 or 2-nighter as rehearsal for a 1-week trip.

And sell some of the spare frames & bits hanging around the spare room!

It’s Anglo-Indian creole, a corruption of Bengal House, the style of house that colonial types built for themselves: single-story with verandahs and french windows.

Bungalows are stigmatised because they were popular in the 20-30s boom of ribbon development along main roads, and they take up lots of space for the accommodation delivered. Medics refer to oldies with weak legs as having bungalow knees, from their not maintaining strength by having to walk up stairs.

Obviously Scotland is a long way

Not obvious at all, it depends where you live!. Where are you starting from? How about a w/e in Norwich? Or Brighton? York?

Moe, not that I know of.

Yes it’s free to call other skype users. and the software is free to download.
You need to register with a user name & password before using it, then seach for your fiends’ IDs.
You can either use voice only, or video calling.
If you want to call landlines abroad, a paid subscription is cheaper than normal phones

    Sorry Sandwich, I don’t understand.
Unless the cable snaps or an eye pulls out, how is it possible to fall further from the via ferrata than the length of your attachment straps, assuming you’re on 2 of them?

Overall the programme was good fun for the tourism and personalities. It must have been very heavily edited and prepared – witness the state of Fry’s trousers after coming down the last bit of scree slope. We didn’t see any of that 2 mile stretch.

I’m just amazed this came to court:
The lasses were handed credit cards to use, they used them, then overused them, the monthly statements went to the right people with oversight of the accounts, then they were accused of fraud.
    Seems strange

I wouldn’t recommend a suit for an academic role interview at this level. Suits denote conformity, they aren’t looking for that. Also, academics don’t wear them. Smart casual would be better.

Read the job description . and / or person spec, then paraphrase that in your covering letter:

    I would make an excellent ferret wrangler becasue I have a + b + c.
So they know to consider you in one paragraph, instead of scanning your whole CV to find the relevant bits.

How about asking the Beograd Chinese community? The communist past brought a fair few across, I should think.
I suspect that finding a native Chinese woman who speaks SerboCroat (as we used to call it) will be rather difficult.

That’s why the current British army camo was introduced, as in some areas of Iraq & Ghan, personnel move quickly from semidesert to wooded to mountain areas. Neither the older (86 ?) dark pattern designed for N Europe, nor the pale desert pattern, were suitable for all of these. The newish pattern is a good compromise.

Pensions are a tax on the poor for the benefit of the rich, in the main.
We all contribute, but those with a healthy & comfortable lifestyle (usually associated with being richish) live longer & suck up the pension pots of those who die younger, who are generally poorer.

Mrs M was made redundant after 30++ years teaching. I’ll have to work beyond 60 to fund her fun lifestyle of coffees and cakes and pub lunches and generally having a very good time.

I went to a lecture of his at a festival: erudite and well-presented. I’ve read his book about the White Moguls.

Mind, the Flashman stories were easier to read.

The weird thing is, we’re wound up about terrorists now but back in the 70s the threat of the IRA was very real. Remember the Birmingham pub bomb? Another one of theirs should have gotten me. Yet we carried on as normal without all the current hoo-haa at airports, nor all the recent new laws.

Perhaps I was naive, but WRT the Reds. I could never see their reasons for bombing us out of existence, so i reckoned they wouldn’t. And I was right 🙂

But I love my black pudding!

And the above is why Muslims only eat Halal: the animals are drained of blood before slaughtering so the devout don’t eat blood. I guess kosher is the same.

At the west end of Woodchester Park (nice ride through) there’s a car park & National Trust area overlooking the Severn Vale. Tuck yourself into the southern ens of the massive open spaces and you’ll be fine. There are woods for ablutions, too, and a pub in Nympsfield less than a mile away.
we’ve stayed there in a the camper a couple of times.

So far as I remember, the interest if offset against income.
So if the interest component of your mortgage is £400 / month and your rental income is £600 / month, you would state that in accounts. Your decorating costs could be offset, too, plus extra insurance etc.

It’s not that easy to make a profit renting out flats if you have a repayment mortgage, but it might be a long-term investment increassing your pension by £6k a year when you need it most.

the brain needs carbs to generate serotonin but can only do this when there is an absence of protein in the blood stream.

Jeebus. Since the bloodstream is normally a solution of dozens of types of proteins, just how does that work?

DavidB – he’d be very helpful towards a young girl, I’m sure.

My (non-bitter) suggestion is to find the nearest biggish university with an astrophysics dept. Look at their website & pick a lecturer. Call them out of the blue! Often you can find someone who has published something newsworthy, on a local if not international scale.
Caveat: I’m a salesman, & I’m used to calling people like that. Many hate it.

Yes. My best friend for many years, spoken twice since he tried to break up my marriage nearly 20 years ago. But he’s at the Cavendish in Cambridge & has a good academic track record. I can pass on his details if you want. I’m sure that he’s respond well if you mention my nickname to him.
    😀
