Warsaw, Krakow, Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius all will be cheaper and as interesting as Barca (which I don’t rate)
I loved Girona, just up the road from Barca, too. Bratislava is worth a day & is just a short train ride from Wien. Seville is good, Lisbon too. Choose somewhere you can fly to easily.

    That’s a bit literary, Flashy.

My dad climbed Snowdon at 82, but at 89 he can only walk on the flat for a few miles.
At 100, I reckon Somafunk’s suggestion is best. Or I’d bribe a nurse.

Run the Map, which has options for walking, cycling, driving etc, has “Splits”, which I guess are much the same.

The SE5a. Not the most wonderful plane of WW1, but the one my grandfather was rigger on, in the RFC before the RAF was formed. He was in the squadron adopted by WE Johns for the Biggles stories, and as squadron librarian was given signed copies of all Johns’ books then published for them to read.

Look on GumTree for local sales. You can get quite a decent van for that sort of money, so long as you avoid overpriced VWs.
This only sleeps 2, but you get the idea:

I got a newer Phlishave last year, 3 headed, near the bottom of the range. It does the job better than the old, a charge lasts 3 weeks, so go for that.
I prefer electric to blades because although the immediate finish isn’t so good, the 1-day bristles aren’t sharp and don’t irritate Mrs M so much

It’s pretty bonkers that it’s more acceptable to show violence on TV than sex.
How many times an evening does a channel show violence and murder, compared to the number of times they show people copulating? *
One involves pain & suffering, the other is fun.
    We’re strange, I tell you.

*I’m excluding those special channels & interweb porn

    61, loads of fillings.
The big change came when much of the country had fluoride added to the water, and toothpaste was also fluoridated. The (statistical) effect was magical – there are far fewer fillings in the under 45s.

I do like the new composite white filling materials, as they are much less obvious than the mercury amalgams used up to around 2000. Hooray for science !

But you don’t hear about that because it’s kept quiet. (Obviously)

Why are you working such long hours?
Is it contractual? Why not just go home at 5:30 – tell them that you’re overworked, & need to have a life of your own.

    Hora:

A few years ago a bloke told me about his estate agent missus undervalued a house for an old dear, sold to mate then proceeds split. This wasn’t a one off.
    Nice.

Our house was supposed to have this happen, but his mate was away for the week of the sale, we told the old lady that we wanted to buy, so she pushed her lawyer to accept our bid. The estate agent was very iffy about it. I’m convinced they are mostly crooks.

I’d heard about the atomic vibration theory, and don’t disbelieve. I’m not convinced about the cost of a pilot plant putting people off a new vanillin synthesis, because the potential upside is so huge.

I didn’t know that there was a fragrance company based in Manchester. I’ll look you up.

I suspect that the reason your industry is running short of ideas is that scent molecules have to be small enough to be volatile, with low-ish molecular weights. That does limit the variety. In addition, they have to get to the nose, so there are only so many molecular receptor shapes available.
In the pharma industry, drugs can be injected or implanted or eaten, so a larger variety of molecular sizes and shapes can be used.
You’re right about safety concerns too.

GlobalTi – are you based in Ashford or the Wirral?

Simply put, every possible molecule has now been synthesised and (mostly) rejected.

No, nowhere near. We may be able to do that by computer, but not in real life. Otherwise, why is the pharma industry employing so many synthetic chemists? If anything, we’re moving away from the mass automated manufacture of new molecules to more directed, logical synthesis again.

However for protection against A/B resistant bacteria, new vaccines and (possibly) bacteriophage treatments as well as new small molecule drugs will be needed. People have been trying to develop phage treatments for 40 years though, with no real results yet.

You’re arguing about semantics, not science.
Viruses are naturally resistant to antibiotics because they’re not biotic. It depends on your implied meaning of “resistant”

    Brooess: they’re the same drug.
One is sold on the street; one is expensive, pure, controlled for quality and available on prescription, but it’s the sake stuff.

    wwaswas:

biggest problem is that pharma won’t invest because there’s a small market for this type of antibiotic and governments don’t see it as their job to develop new drugs.

    Bolleaux.
There is an excellent market for these drugs, it’s just that they take lots of research and many years to develop. And research is difficult. Yes, current antibiotics are cheap but that’s because they’ve been around for years.
Here’s a press release from a small Liverpool-based biotech, RedX:

Redx is a good example of the role these organisations can play in tackling this issue. Later this year, we will open a new £10.8 million research and development centre focused on anti-viral and anti-bacterial drugs. One of our key focus areas will be developing drugs to combat resistance to antibiotics. Importantly, this work is supported by the Government through a grant from the Regional Growth Fund of £4.7 million.

Several of the big pharma companies are also working on novel antibiotics, because they see a future need and future profit. The typical cost of getting a new drug to market these days, including the cost of the failed programmes, is somewhere north of £3 billion.

I reckon 8.5 hours for me. It’s best if I wake without the alarm, but that will depend on the next day’s workload etc. At 60 I feel I’m entitled to my rest.

With regards to Jedi’s “sleep cycles”: there’s a fair amount of variation from the 90 minutes he quotes, so if yours is 96 minutes then the 5 cycles would be 8 hours, if it’s 80 minutes then 6 cycles is also 8 hours.

Depends on the airport & other flights, and how many security belts are running. You could be through in 20 minutes, it could take 90. I reckon getting there 90 mins before is safe, but I’ve had some surprises when there are long queues.

I disagree with those who suggest a litter-tray. They stink. Cats can pee outdoors. I’ve had cats here for 25 years without a tray or trouble and there are loads of more dominant moggies around

Make sure that her catflap is easy to use, if necessary get one that the ginger won’t get through, and try to keep the intruder out of your garden. Perhaps dig up a section of border on the opposite side from the ginger, so she has somewhere attractive & outside to pee in.

    I suggest that you
    a) Vaccuum & clean all the soft furnishings to get rid of the smell.
    b) Buy some paint & a brush and get on with it yourself.

Frankly, you sound pathetically unwilling to do anything yourself.
