    Anyone heard anything from Ton?

    It’s brie.
It’s supposed to smell like that.

It’s chemistry rather than physics. Personally I’d have used another acid to pick up the oxide, probably phosphoric like most rust removers. But your procedure seems sound

I’d go for the “no-broadband at home” story, suggest you do your first hour per day on the course.

Heart ops are routine now, Ton. You’ll be fine.

Yes, I’ve been scared; no, I don’t want to talk about it.

    See you online on Saturday

A couple of years ago I was riding with some mates in the Black Mountains, & bumped into Stoner from this site, who was out for a solitary overnight hike.

    Quite right.
Also, overtaking should be made illegal because of the risk of hitting something coming from the opposite direction.

    Sounds fair?

Pimp, the pharma conspiracy theory is rubbish. The drug industry is not monolithic, it’s hundreds of companies competing against each other to find cures for illness. If one company has a stabilising drug, then another produces an actual cure, then the first drug sales will plummet.
Drug discovery programmes are rarely individuals anyway – they are teams working together, sharing ideas. Those that remained in Europe will be able to continue the same work.

Is it beyond the realms of possibility that a cure for AIDS is just around the corner, thus meaning that drug companies will lose millions they currently make on selling ‘make comfortable’ drugs?

Yes, because those researchers will have sent the transcripts of their talks ahead of them, and all their notes will be stored electronically so their work could be reproduced easily. And all the pharmas would know this. That’s quite apart from it being a stupid scenario, many pharmas are also looking for a cure. What the hell is a “comfortable” drug?

As a follow-up question, is there anywhere I can see the complete Stage 7 again?
(Actually, just the bit where they go through a particular village, but I’d have to scroll through the lot to find it)

Arrange a hog-roast: the wedding I went to cost £650 for 180 guests, plus industrial salad, wine, beer etc: probably £2000 all in. It was in a cleared out barn on a farm 🙂

I had it years ago, in Nepal. I remember having to leap over walls to avoid pooing in the road, very embarrassing.
Flagyl / metronidazole cleared it up in no time.

she was either being bullied, or coerced.
And was filmed by the people who coerced her, then reneged an the “agreement”.
    They are scum, not her

What do you want to do there?
Do NOT try to park on Sion Hill, you’ll be driving aronnd getting stressed. It’s really hard to find a spot there, as it’s all flats. Look at a satellite view to see what I mean.
If you want to go to the play area, the bridge, slide & camp areas, then park on Clifton Down (the road) opposite Percival Rd or nearby. There are loos near the bridge.
Otherwise, I suggest the Circular Road, near the edge of the gorge, close to where the other loos & ice-cream van are.

Edit: sorry – Bonchance gave exactly the same advice as me, but earlier. Which shows we are right. 🙂

    First, speak to the builder.
Point out that he needs to reinstate your garden immediately, and that he has no permission to enter it except for the purposes of making good. A short, polite letter might help – and get his contact details before you go off on one.
You may need to start work late, so you can have a face-to-face.

Emsz, if you’re rocking the 70s look, do you know anyone who wants a pair of genuine baby-blue 1978 Australian Stubbies shorts, 30″ waist, that have been cluttering my bottom drawer for many many years. Labels attached! I was skinny then.

Ask to see some specimen CVs first.
One friend of mine paid for a CV, found that her role as company secretary had been transformed into secretary/typist. She wasn’t amused.

There are forlorn wilting bouquets outside the house where the Young Ones was filmed, with some messages from kids who weren’t even born then. Sad.

If the owners of grouse moors weren’t getting subsidies at £55/ hectare then i could see their point. But we are paying them a ridiculous amount to make the land infertile, so we should have access where it won’t cause damage.

No. Don’t go. We passed through there a month ago. It’s like Blackpool / Southend on steroids and more expensive.

And the FT article about Piketty is itself wrong, & cherry-picks its figures.

    Tis a marketing ploy.
Yoghurt is fermented milk, the bacteria do the fermenting. The “live” yogs are not pasteurised, but others are. Generally the low fat yogs have sugar added, so they need pasteurising.

Yep, Thatcher, with the concept of a housing “ladder”, as opposed to buying a place to live in.
Selling off council houses at below their worth to the residents was a big incentive for buying. Funnily, she didn’t propose that tenants of private landlords could also do the same.

Better to apply for a renewal now, to be doubly safe. Sometimes airlines are overly picky about passport dates.

    Brown Betty, every time.
Just check the inside, to get one with a series of perforations separating the body from the spout. The pots with a single large hole tend to block both with either large leaves or bags.

And we should remember that most of the German forces were fighting on the Eastern Front, so the Western Allies were only facing a fraction of the opposition they might have had.

So long as you don’t turn into a complete knbo-end like the man in H1 DRE (a Disco, I think) who forced his way across 3 lanes of crawling M4 traffic yesterday. Tosser!

Getting Hep B shots is a good idea if you’re going anywhere nasty. The disease often results in liver cancer, a few years down the line. A mate of mine caught Hep B in Afghanistan in the late 70s, (the place was notorious) and suffered for months of pain & jaundice. Then about 5 years ago the cancer flared up. He lived for another 3 months. That’s not unusual 🙁

There’s a bloke wot I know from Bury, now living in Poland, who has an excellent blog for his recipes. They are nearly all under a quid a portion, so cheap, and the recipes are very clear.

You could change at Swindon, take one of the rare trains to Melksham, cut across to Bradford then ride to Bristol.
But its probably easier to backtrack from Bath on the train to Bradford – that’s a nice ride of 30 miles back to Bristol , much along the canal path.

    Glyphon, if

Your body works on a first in, last out way

then my bowels have been working wrongly all my life.

I shudder to think how your guts work if you think the above is true.

How are you getting to Bristol?
Why not take a train to, say, Bradford or Trowbridge then ride back?

There’s no reason to develop the Avon path for bikes, as it duplicates the cycle route and winds a lot, as rivers do. Look at the geography, the river & railways follow the valley between hills to the north & south. So avoiding the obvious routes means diverting into the hills.

It’s only a dozen miles between the city centres, so if you avoid the railway path it will mean much of the journey is spent in city streets.
Yes, there is a footpath by the Avon from Bristol to Swineford but it gets very muddy indeed, and there are stiles to heave across.
If you don’t have the OS map, use Bing maps to plan- there is an OS option.
