That’s why pre-registered are cheaper. You may lose a little when it comes to resale because you are the second owner

Avoid the Lands End experience, it’s crap.
How old are your kids and where in Cornwall? There are beaches galore, the Eden Project, the Bodmin moor mine remains & stone circle, Dartmoor, Haligon Gardens, Tintagel, etc etc. But if you were staying near the Devon border, going down to the Lizard would be a long long drive

An Android tablet – possibly a Samsung one with a stylus as an alternative to typing. Sort out the wireless prining for her, too. Google Docs will do for an office suite, with the advantage that you could share access from your own laptop if she needed help.

I’d say Android or Winfone rather than Apple – I think they are easier to understand. If she’s buying new, suggest the usual MotoG or a Tesco Winfone offer. A bigger screeen might make larger print posssible, hence easier to read & use. I know of 80+ year olds who use tablets most days, again moe seem to get on with Android than Apple

You did check the climate before you booked, didn’t you? It’ss the rainy season from April onwards in the Caribbean.

I’ve had a very cold wet week in the Lake District before now, that wasn’t much fun.

Do what we do at the Academy- go upstairs with the old people & watch from the balcony. Good view, room to move around, not quite so loud 🙂

For less than that she could buy my 09 registered Peugeot 308 diesel estate, 81k ish, big boot with seats that can be removed completely if necessary. Selling as I’m no longer working and live in the centre of town. It’s not fancy but very practical

I understand completely – I (probably) retired in February and the lack of focus took a couple of months or so to dissipate.
Now I’m quite content to potter around doing the odd jobs as Stoner described. What helped me most was a couple of short holidays away from home which provided a break from the feeling of ennui and allowed me to return and fit into the new life.
So I’d advise a short holiday away from home, to see if that helps.

bookwyse – that’s faster than my dad’s Ford Thames, which took a faamily of 5 around Scotland for camping holidays so many years ago.
I’ve hardly seen another since the 70s

    I clocked a camper on a dealer forecourt at 36k for a 2010.

Sounds reasonable. Our 2010 Ducato has about 36k miles on the clock too.
Coincidentally it cost us about £36k newly converted, since when we’ve slept in it for 30+ nights per year and had a humungouse amount of fun. It’s not a VW, of course, but that means the double bed is always up so there’s no faffing around when it’s snooze time.

I saw one on the rack of a car parked in S. Cornwall (Lerryn?) at the weekend. I was either very well maintained or had had very little use.

Do it now. Start tonight. Don’t necessarily try for a baby, just stop using contraception.
Being a parent is a job for the young, at any rate not for the old.

I don’t know anyone with kids who has regretted it (except perhaps one with a handicapped child)

But at 60+ I do know a number of childless couples who get teary when drunk, about how they wish they’d had them and how they made the wrong decisions in their 30s to have “fun” instead. In the scheme of things, that “fun” pales into insignificance beside the joys & terrors of children.

    1. It depends on the sewing machine & the thickness of the material. (Sew, not sow, unless you’re planning on harvesting them when they’ve grown)

    2. You might need an industrial sewing machine for that job.
    3. If it’s only for a small job, you might be better off with an awl, something like a Speedy Stitcher Sewing Awl – basically a needle with a handle, and the eye at the pointed end.

or if you wanted fast’n’easy you could come off the M4 at the A34 (Oxford / Newbury), drive 5 miles N to ride along the Ridgeway for a while.

Often it is bad infrastructure which encourages accidents – it’s easier to make driving errors if the road and path layouts are badly designed.

in the late 60s I rode a single-speed 27 1/4″ wheel from Teesside to Fadmoor via Rudland Rigg ,which was much rougher than it is now. Off-roading, rigid, SS. More or less what I do now, except for longer distances and with skinnier tyres.

What you need is something which no-one seems to manufacture these days: an orginal brogue with the holes punched all the way through for coolth & breathability, like they used to be 300 years ago. The holes were originally to ensure that water drained out of the shoes once it had got in, as well as for decoration.

Look for a 6m van conversion, something like a Ducato or Pug Boxer. Look at the Autocruise or WildAxe conversions if you want some ideas.

Craigslist also has a friends only section – so no payments needed. In fact you could probably charge for your company if you’re well-spoken and presentable.

Count Zero, I can understand having carbines and the light weaponry which airport police carry. But this was heavy stuff, pillar mounted, two handed operation. It took one of them an effort to lift the dustbin with all the spent cartridge cases. It was weaponry for war, not consensual policing, and the implications are disturbing.

    Ah, the location.
Yes it was a lay-by, but on a road through the Otterburn ranges in Northumbria. It’s not marked as a road on the OS 1:25k maps

    Frozen peas, not marrowfat.
How about a beef or fish Wellington?
Wine: Yugoslave Lutomer Riesling or Bulgarian red.

I thought that Angel Delight was a late 60s thing, but unsure. It certainly wasn’t a dinner-party food, it was a last minute get stuff on the table for the kids pud.

Most IQ tests, are just general knowledge quizzes, you could score highly because you were lucky, or had lots of exposure to the subject matter or just have a good memory.

    Na.
Most IQ tests are to do with reasoning, and are designed to be independent of educational background. Have a look if you don’t believe me.

It is true that they tend to measure a particular type of aptitude, so a high IQ is no guarantee of empathy, “common sense” (see above) , spatial skills etc.

I am not so intelligent as I used to think I was.

D-Locks good, cable locks not good.
Mrs M nipped into the library for 10 minutes on a Sunday morning (yes, it was open), leaving her bike cable-locked. It disappeared. THe cut cable lock was left, however.

Yes, when we first moved into this house we had 3 rooms let to lodgers for about 5 years. It paid the mortgage, allowed us to renovate much faster than otherwise, and worked well most of the time.
We just had one really awkward lodger, got on OK with the others, but no real disasters.
We were fortunate in that it’s a large house which we could set up with a 2nd kitchen, as most disagreements from house sharing seem to be centred around cooking and cleanliness in that area.
