fantastic info guys – thanks a lot. I live in Crewe so Shavington is only a couple of miles away!

It’ll probably be a job for a few months time…i’m itching to get the thing built but, if money allows, then it’d be nice to get something done sooner.

I’ll have a look down B&Q at some samples as I have no idea what colour(s) to go for, but thanks for the suggestions so far!

+1 Mondy estate – huge space in them.

the biggest thing missing from your original post is budget….I could suggest a porsche panamera with the seats folded, but that may be a bit too expensive….?

    lol

started boxing last year…not to any great standard, just a couple of charity fights….but that kind of training was a massive shick to the system…

just proves that there are different types of fitness. I’m 18 stone and can fight my 3 rounds (could probably go 4 or 5 if needed) but my cycling will be shocking as ive not ridden for 5 years!

    i’d kill for 150/100!

My highest reading has been 196/128….and I was 21!!!

ive got it, diagnosed at 17….the easiest thing is to ignore it.

If you have made the suggested lifestyle changes (as I have) and you are getting exercise and you’re on tabs…ask yourself what else can you actually do? Probably nothing…so stop thinking about it otherwise you’ll giver yoursefl a BP spike and feel like poop!

    my 2p!

another thought….how about a second, social job?

I’ve worked as a Doorman for the last 3.5 years and its great! I see it as getting paid to have a night out, you don’t wake up with a hangover and you meet loads of new people!!!

very difficult…esp when you feel all your interests are reliant on a functioning body!

Although ive not been riding for a fair few years…i have been active with other things (martial arts and boxing). last year, there was a local white collar boxing fight in aid of charity which I took part in (more to prove a point to myself than anythign else) and got hooked! Admitedly, ankle-wise you wont be able to do it, but there are other arts that you could do. I found this out when I suffered a few injuries that meant I couldn’t train….i found other arts and now I train 4 nights a week!

take away the outdoorsy element and think about what other interests you have and i’m sure there will be something.

i think it was a good idea to put the post on here….to the point that this palce is full of like minded individuals.

start a new thread and organise a bikers pint night….give plenty of notice and ask people to tag along. I’d be up for it (if I wasn’t a couple of hundred miles away!!!!!)

well – the fixings are pathetic.

I’ve just put up a punchbag holder on the outside of my house. the bracket is about 10kg….it’ll hold a what, 20kg punchbag? and it has a chin-up bar to lift my 18st bulk…..so the 6 x 10mm BOLTS supplied should be ok to keep the total of 145kg.

now – bearing the aobve in mind…..6 x screws???? me thinks not

    @valleydaddy – LOL!

Just remember – it’s not what you do that gets you into trouble its what you say you did (obviously ignoring CCTV!!!!)

In my experience, these ‘minor’ crimes (and I use the term lightly) will not get much of a response.

Be clever….provoke the offender whithout being abusive etc and manipulate the offender into taking aggressive action. Then, when you feel “scared” feel free to use “reasonable and necessary force” to educate them in the error of their ways

    thanks all

so, if ive go this right,

a 9spd front mech, 9sp chainset, 9sp front shifter will work with a 10sp shifter, cassette and chain?

    what about the rear mech?

    thanks

best £10 bmx a 10 year old can have (bloody loved that bike and cried when it got carted off to get my)
    Raleigh Maraurder (stolen)
    A.N Other Raleigh
GT Palomar…used this for a commute then took it on a gravel path once. It was 1/4 mile long, flat and a little bumpy….and it died after going up and down the path 20 times in my first off road experience!
Schwinn Moab. Great bike with a crappy Manitou fork. Slowly got upgraded to some nice XTR kit, when I decided to build my
Orange E8. Ultimate contradictory lightweight HT. Full XTR, with a Fox Vanilla RLC and Hope XC on Mavic X3.1 UST rims….climbed like a rocket!
Last bike was a Cannondale Jekyll which was upgraded with a few nice Thomson & Hope bits and an XT chainset.

Only bike now is currently being build – a Marin Attack Trail which spec isn’t decided on but is being built on a budget

    thanks for all the comments!

i’m not a light bloke and i’m building up a marin attack trail frame I picked up today. Although I’ll be getting back into riding with the daily commute and a little bit of off road, I want to be heading back to places like Nanty very soon….

Given my bulk and some of the comments here (oh, and my memory of Hope minis, magura louise’s and some Hayes HFX-9’s [all names if memory serves correctly]) I think I’ll leave them alone.

igm – thanks for the offer but i’ll pass for the time being.

Now…new thread to be started…”Which disc brakes on a budget” lol

i’m sure I made something similar in 1989. It took ages due to the many washing up liquid bottles needed, but Blue Peters plans were bang on!

thanks for advice guys – bought a used marin attack trail frame with fox air shock, hope XC / mavic wheelset, hope headset, skewers & seat clamp, azonic bar, seatpost and XT front mech so far. hoping to get some conti verticals and a saddle on here shortly….

thinking i’ll leave it there till payday and buy the SLX groupset from that German palce for €219 and have found some new Avid Juicy 3’s (185mm front / 160mm rear) for £35.99 each.

Then its just a fork, a stem and a couple of tubes!
