I had a 2012 ghost amr and recently moved on to a 2016 trek fuel. The trek is way ahead, efficiency of pedal, charging downhill, handling bigger drops. The game has moved on.

A 5010 would be ideal in standard spec. Start early. Enjoy the views

    No mention of Torridon get?

The bits I’ve done of Cairnform loops are ace. Proper feeling of the highlands.

Ben Macdui firmly on the to do list.

also interested, is it fully smart, alters the resistance automatically?

would you consider second hand? I picked up a lightly used 9 month old trek fuel 9.8 for £1850 and it’s ace.

Ah ideal. Feels like the right option at that price £

A ‘pedros downhill tyre lever’ – it’s ace.

Yes tyres can be done by hand but its just faster when at home and also incredibly useful for wiggling open crusted up brake calipers.

OP doesn’t have the Dyfi Enduro in the ‘done’ category. Get on it.

Another vote for an old 2nd hand soul. Recently built one up from bits, frame was £150 off here. Wish I’d done it ages ago. 740mm bars, 60mm stem, does not feel old fashioned next to my 2016 fuel.

Halfords blue wall hooks, rubberised and big enough for MTB. Cost about £3 each.

Yeah was just thinking chalk not ideal. I’ve had the roady round Dursley and have been MTB curious of that bit of country for a while. If you do find a gpx that would be ace.

Ohhh that sounds different. Will investigate. Thanks!

I’ve only had a brief squirt on a V2 Bronson and it was mind bendingly good (IMHO). What don’t you like? Geometron suggestions makes me think you find the front steep, shirley not?

Dialled PA rides beautifully on 120mm. Give it the fork it deserves.

Finding straight steerer 120mm Rebas 2nd hand is a total mission mind you. May have to look at fox or x-fusion options.

I regret selling mine, went for peanuts, should have just kept it and built it back up with bits.

I demo’d the ‘standard’ flare last year and always meant to write a review about it.

One of the most fun bikes I have ever ridden, just felt right straight away and had an absolute ball bombing around Leigh Woods offpiste of an evening. Pedalled well and massively confidence inspiring on the way down.

In the end, I went with an even more unfashionable option – mainstream and short travel! Picked up a 2016 Fuel 9.8 off pink bike for sensible money and I love it, would not change it for anything. I’m not the strongest so having something light is a good thing and it’s plenty more bike than I need going down – rider is the weak link. Did I mention I really like it?

Recently picked up a lightly used 2016 trek fuel 9.8, 27.5. For general hacking about it’s absolutely blooming brilliant. Paid £1850.

Echo above. Not really packable. It’s a lot of money for a jacket but I’m glad I have one, when you know it’s going to be grim it’s a trusty companion. I tested mine to extreme at TdBN last year and came back not soaked through.

Did the cheap ebay stuff for a while. Till it broke.

Against advice bought an xfusion 27.2. After two rides, stopped working. Thought oh shit.

Recabled the inner and outer of the xfusion and put loads of grease in the mechanism. Nine months of weekly riding later and all is well.

If I had to to do it again, I’d go xfusion.

Echo others, March is more ski touring than MTB time in the gorms.

£400 with flux. 11 years NCB, decent (enough) postcode.

VW T5 with usual wheels and remap mods. 10k per year.

Going on the above should defo check out Greenlight for next year.

T5 kombi conversion with remap and bits – about the same as a hot hatch. (Sub £500)

Check if the ks is stealth routing. Not many stealth 27.2 frames out there.

Did the cheap RSP thing and to be fair it worked for a year or so then gave up. Cheap, a bit agricultural but gets the job done.

Against advise I went for the x fusion. Couldn’t stretch for a Thomson. It started slipping after a few rides and I thought crap. But then I replaced the inner and outer cable and put a load of grease on the mechanism at the top of the tube. Been perfect since (few weeks and several rides later) so, so far so good. I guess time will tell. The original fit cable is crap, got wet and rusty which contributed to the problem.

I hesitate to say I like mine! Hope it keeps going

I had a b5 1.9 130 passat estate for years. Great cheap motoring, well built, comfy and would do the journey to Chamonix and back without flinching! Sold it for buttons and new owner is about to hot 180k on the clock. They are brilliant old buses. But as soon as its not just you AND kit, it often means roof racks or rear racks – and i get carpark paranoia! My 7 6 mal would fit in the back with passanger up front.

Now have a t5 1.9 with remap and goodies. Love it. Its not as comfy as the old bus but for everything else wins hands down. Mine has had windows kombi style put in so is car price over the bridge to Wales. (But a van on M6 toll).

Vans are great, wish i’d done it sooner.
