As others have suggested for a co of that size, buy it, plant and machinery. Use it for travelling to and from client sites.

The post above about servicing is a good one. Had not thought about that. Makes sense that you want to keep company plant and machinery in good condition.

Update on my ‘fork’ issue above.

It was the wheels. It was 100% user error. I’d fitted 15mm adaptors not 12mm. Put the right ones in and all back to normal.

    I am an idiot.

Anyway, echo post above, I’ve had my Arkose 4 for 3 years now and it’s been my most used bike. Supercommuter and winter road bike, then summer gravel adventures too.

Went from a 26 soul to a gen 3 slackline. Absolutely love the slackline, it’s a total keeper.

Just so much fun for you know just riding about.

thank you – that’s mega helpful.

Yeah I know what you mean, I’ve been convinced it was the wheel but I feel like I’ve tried so many different things, kinda losing patience with it but don’t want to shell out £400+ for decent wheelset.

Yes flat mount, that’s the current set up, thanks for asking tho:-)

Arkose crew, I need your help

I have self diagnosed* that I need to replace the fork on my 2018 Arkose 4 (medium) (the yellow one 1*11, carbon fork).

I’ve found on ebay an Arkose carbon fork here,
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185104124524?hash=item2b1910ca6c:g:tu4AAOSw8QNhZpzt
The guy seems genuine, had a couple of messages and there is a deal to be done.

The only thing is, it was for a small frame not a medium. Does that matter?

Alternatively, would someone please point me to wherever on the web I can buy a compatible fork that would do the job.

If that ebay fork is the same size for small and medium then I am thinking I should just buy it but don’t want to spank £100+ on something that isn’t right and might be hard to sell on.

I really like my Arkose, want to keep it in good health.

    What say you, learned friends?

*symptoms: Front brake constantly going out of trim and rubbing. As I tighten the axel I can feel play in the placement of the wheel – push it in, loads of rub, pull it out no rub. Then as riding even with the maxle tightened up, it moves (I guess over a bump) and we’re back to rubbing again. I’ve changed the wheel axle end caps, changed brake discs, changed axle, checked for sticky pistons, changed bolts mounting the brake, filed down the brake pads a bit… spent a lot of time and effort and can’t seem to fix the problem. So am thinking now the fork has rounded a bit, hence the bit of movement. But I am very happy to be told otherwise. Interestingly, the problem doesn’t happen on the original Arkose rims and discs but does with (more than one) set of hunt 4 seasons.

Ran rival 2*10 on my px roadbike for years and it’s been hugely reliable. Decided to replace the mech after 10k Kms only because it was losing its spring (tbh I probably could have just replaced the part). There was no rival for sale at the time so fitted an apex mech and not felt any difference.

I’d save the cash for nice wheels

Would sir consider a slightly more rowdy option?

Absolutely adore my gen 3 Stanton slackline. Wouldn’t swap it for anything other than a Ti version of the same thing.

Classic suggest what you have. Not sorry.

Similar story here, had left done twice, both more than 10 years ago.

Few days on crutches, few weeks taking it easy, then back in business. I can tell something’s not quite the same left to right but it’s not stopped my biking and skiing.

Was advised at the time not get too into running in my later life as my knees wouldn’t thank me, but don’t think that’s unusual advice!

Did it today. Blackrock to cheddar. Pretty much pushed up from Blackrock and then really enjoyed the across and down into cheddar.

We were polite to the max and all the walkers were smiley and waved us through.

Really glad I did it. Probably not a route I’d choose often but would ride it again.

Descending into Blackrock with a bit of rain sheen would be interesting, especially that last 100m.

thanks, yep we’re talking about the same one here. Black Rock – Cheddar.

Ok that’s good to know. Looks like from Black Rock to Charterhouse is also BW, is that right?

I’m just about to buy some Hunt wheels for my 2018 Arkose 4 (the yellow one)

SRAM Rival 1*11, can someone just hold my hand and confirm that it’s NOT an XD hub and I want to click the 8/9/10/11 shimano/sram hub.

    Is that right?

I got this badly wrong a couple of years back. Similar story, 1 month in and big long lush grass. Cut it (too low down in retrospect) and it grew back ok, cut it again …. and then it got really threadbare, took an age to get anything like good and even now it’s never been quite as good as hoped.

I’d say leave it for a bit longer!

I have a lowly 4130 gen 3 slackline. I absolutely love it. Coming from a dialled PA and a Soul, the slackline is in a different league, you’d have to prise it out my cold dead hands.

Have done everything from BPW to Cairngorm trailer rides with it.

Expensive? Perhaps. Value? Yes. Smiles per mile. Absobloodylutely.

I went for 4130 to avoid the wait, don’t regret it. If you’re thinking of getting one and want a fun modern HT then just do it.

Another very happy Burley d’lite owner here. Bought second hand for £250 and would expect to sell it on for similar. Both boys love being in it, has a huge boot for picnics and the suspension takes the edge off bumpy tracks. Not too hard to pedal either.

Burley stuff is all very clever, screen, sunshade etc

It’s been my best dad purchase.

absolutely smitten with my gen 3 Stanton Slackline. £2.2k build from Stanton is OK, but if you’ve got some parts or happy to play a bit of bikediscount.de fun then there’s a ace build to be had at top of budget.

Its strikes me, have you considered a Junior partner? Someone like me who’d like to tap into your experience but is too nervous perhaps to make it on their own. E.g. I work for your company under your brief generating my own independent client list but contributing a percent earnings to you for your business acumen/effort.

Well, its got legs in my mind…. 😀

    Thanks for the kind words.

It’s like you’re reading my mind, considering options along those lines at the moment.

Also taken on board what I think is good advice that success doesn’t necessary equal having to go big.

With the world like it is and with me having 2 under 4 in the house, quite happy to take my time over the what next.

Have you thought about setting up on your own?

That’s what I did, partly through choice, partly because I couldn’t get excited about yet another senior media sales role. I just didn’t love the product and couldn’t face motivating another team. (Previously 15 years mostly agency/publisher experience B2B tech).

Took a few days out and thought about where I can help most. And decided that’s working with really smart founders, boffins, who don’t find sales or pitching or marketing comes natural to them. I offer up a mix of strategy, coaching and hands on outsourced Sales Director.

12 months later and I could not be happier, this is my gig: https://makethebreak.co

I’ve ended up working with some fascinating companies and learned more in the last 12 months than probably the previous 5 years.

It’s also paid for my new stanton slackline :-)

OP if your thinking of taking the plunge, happy to chat. I’m glad I did.

Hi folks, Pinnacle Arkose 4, 2018 and would also like to do a hub service. I see Mike DIY’d it. Care to share how difficult a job it was and which bearing pack is the right one? @mikertroid @jameso

    cheers

My dialled PA is probably the bike I regret selling most. I can’t really articulate it, it was just so much fun. I have a soul now which I’ve always wanted and yet I still think back to the old PA.

No lightweight and nothing special at low speed but when riding at pace round tracks I know well just seemed to feel so right. And I pointed it down steep stuff and it always did me right.

Sold it on here. Resprayed Kawasaki green. I wonder if it’s still alive?

Sad times. I built my wife a skinny duster a few years back and take it out for a sneaky spin every now and again. It’s ace.

Or he knows this will get stuck in the Supreme Court for longer than his tenancy, the wall will never get built and he can turn around and say I tried everything including a national emergency.

The guy is an total embarrassment to the office of the presidency and I can’t wait to see the back of him. But, this may be a masterstroke.

Hurts my teeth even suggesting giving him some credit.

Few weeks since picking up a discounted 4 in late Decemeber. Really happy with it. Had to get a longer bolt to fit the guards through the head tube, other than that all good.

Picked up a pinnacle arkose 4 (sram hydros) just before New Year. 600km of supercommuting and winter road rides since and i love it. Currently setup with guards and 28mm gp 4 seasons, will change back for a planned adventure day into the Brecons next month. So far very much so good and the brakes are the business.

Lots of TL;DR stuff here about frame materials. All I know is a demo’d a flare (non max) a couple of years back and I absolutely loved it. Unbelievably capable bike and within a few minutes encouraged me to attack descents super quick.

    Also looking at similar options.

Spec is: Bike for commuting, winter road riding, trailering the wee man at the weekend.

I think I want Alu not carbon for this particular bike because I don’t fancy trailering or seat-ing a baby on a carbon bike. Not for his health and safety more from a potential to crack the frame. Tell me I shouldn’t worry?

Alu bike with guards and rack, light enough for winter road duties with a wheel and tyre upgrade. If I ever did want to do the bike packing thing then happy days.

Arkose, Friston, Gestalt, Full Monty SL, Ribble CGR… all in the running.

Kind of decided a wheel upgrade will happen with any option (maybe except the ribble?). I did ask PX about other options for the LR/Full Monty and it seems its stock or a £600 carbon upgrade, nothing in between.

I did see someone in the classifieds offering a nearly new set of wheels the other day, think they were DT Swiss, might look back and find them!

Welcome any ‘I’ve got XYZ and use it for blah and it’s great. Get one’ type comments.
