Cross Fell and High Cup Nick for quiet old skool fun. Met one person yesterday (on the descent to Murton). I haven’t been onto the Howgills since September so might head there next week if this weather holds.

usually on Bikepacking.com it’s the “Old Man Mountain” rack or variation of one

No, it looks a bit like an elkhorn but lacks the triangulation and isn’t mounted on the axle. I’ve been using OMM racks for 20+ years, they’re good, but that one in the Moxie review is exactly what I’m after. I know Cass, I’ll ask him.

    Apologies for the thread hijack.

Anybody know what rack that is on the Moxie in that review?

I was disappointed with Sisu. Like Overlord, the trailers overpromised on the actual films.

Kung Fu Hustle is brilliant. I was also going to suggest Bone Tomahawk (free on Prime) but let’s just cut to the chase:

I went to see Nobody at the cinema as we were coming out of lockdown and was the only person in there. Loved it, need to rewatch it (other than that bus fight scene which I’ve watched about a hundred times)….

Hmm, I’d used 7digital in the past but thought it’d gone belly up. That’ll do.

Me too! I’d been thinking of asking this question myself. Sometimes you can buy and download from individual artist’s websites but I’d like a broader place to search for and buy DRM free MP3s.

Buy a cheaper, lighter bike, and with the money you save you can afford a half frame bag that you can load up with bags of sugar for that authentic Surly ride feel.

I think the Fearless chap is/was planning on a V2 Warlock with MTB standards (boost spacing, big tyre clearance, etc) based on a query of mine last year. No info on the website yet but I think he’s active on social media (I’m not so don’t know what the latest is).

Trump lacks the subtlety (and self awareness) to deal with a black woman in a debate. The resulting car crash wouldn’t change the minds of the idiots supporting him but might focus the attention of people who don’t want a racist sex offender in control of their country until 2029.

In fact, I think Trump would avoid that debate at all costs.

I’d like to see a debate between Harris and Trump. I’d put money on an ex-lawyer against a racist, sexist grifter. Might open some eyes on the consequences of inaction.

I was on Times from the mid 90s, always liking them in use, but moved to Shimano two years ago after experiencing some of the same issues with durability/serviceability as others above. The SPDs are fine after the initial recalibration period – prefer the ME700 pedals to the M540 grenades. If money was no object I’d be looking at Hope for spares backup and complete serviceability – that’s the way I’d be going in the future.

EDIT: the SPD cleats are deeper/thicker than Time, noticeable on hikeabike stuff if you’ve got shallow soles.

Starr is also in that Jake Gyllenhaal film ‘The Covenant’ (free on Prime). Took me a while to figure out where I’d seen him before because to me he IS the Homelander.

The Chrysalids by John Wyndham – largely told from the child/adolescent point of view trying to make sense of his world.

I recently finished ‘School’s Out’ by Scott Andrews, having watched the film on Prime – teenage me would’ve considered it a work of great literature!

Back cover blurb: It’s never easy being fifteen, but when your teachers are killing each other, the prefect who loves to bully you is experimenting with crucifixion, and the rival gang from across town have decided that ritualistic cannibalism is the way to go, spots and BO don’t seem like such big problems after all. These are the final days of St Marks School For Boys, and the punishment for disobedience is death!

Bike storage on trains that would clearly never have worked even if it wasn’t full of other random sh!t.

Not just you. After three decades on Time pedals (latterly MX) I switched to Shimano two years ago; ME700 on the MTB, M540 on the monstercross. Much prefer the former (size 15 feet).

I just want to have a look around this mahoosive ornate 1880s railway station I’ve passed through many times, that has absolutely no reason to be there next to a little village in a modern context!

School’s Out Forever is now up for free on Prime. I liked this, it’s got some interesting points to make about age and class. Bit more thoughtful than the trailer suggests.

That study suggests a population of 77-80 million based on how much we’re eating. Doesn’t seem to take into account we’re a nation of fat **** who eat more than we need to.

Best way of getting more followers is to breed them rather than convert them.

They. Shall Not. Replace Us! Right?

Yeah, I’d always do Stockdale to Settle as a downhill. I’m actually over that way on Wednesday if the forecast stays good, starting at Hellifield Station. I hadn’t realised that Brockhole Lane is now a BW – it’s still a footpath on the 1:50,000, but changes to a BW when you zoom in to 1:25,000.

Depending on your frame’s head tube you might be able to use forks with a tapered steerer, with just a new lower headset unit. Increases your range of options. I’ve got Surly, Kona and Ridefarr forks on my bikes, they’re all good.

It’s more lack of sun than rain that’s affecting me. Everywhere’s overgrown but I think that’s because people have given up. I’ll be taking secateurs next time I ride this local track, the brambles will soon be impassable in places.

Pack the poles separate to the fabric (and pegs). Buy the bag(s) based on capacity (litres) rather than shape/length/width. Stuff the tent into the bag randomly, but allowing trapped air to escape; don’t roll/fold it such that the same areas always get stressed along creases.

Tried just bending the lever blade back? I badly bent an M8000 lever 18 months ago and it’s still good following a bit of judicious pressure with a big spanner.

Anywhere near Wigan? An older guy got on the train the other day with a bike that was frankly dangerous, and I suggested he really needed to get it looked at. Turns out he’d just picked it up and volunteers for this lot:

Your average conductor isn’t going to know/care what a good ebike is versus a burny one – it’d end up being a blanket ban just like the scooters

That’s what bothers me, as someone who uses trains to facilitate bike packing trips (and cycle commuting). In the not too distant future I anticipate having to open up frame bags to demonstrate there are no batteries inside…

It does surprise me that rail companies are still letting obvious lash-up ebikes onto trains given the publicity this issue is getting, and the fact they’ve already banned e-scooters for precisely this reason.

and a bell too, but then all bikes should have one of them.
