He’ll be dead one day but you’ll still be alive so you can spit on his grave.
Learn to ride a bike. It’s mint.
You have to hit the very bottom to find the person who will make it all worth while.

Yes, you really are going mental.

edit: just read that above: Excellent quotation. Says it all really. If only as a 15 year old I’d read that and believed it.

As edlong suggests, your wife needs to keep away from any witnesses.
I was advised that if anybody contacted me in person, I was to record the contact as best I could and reply with a ‘thank you for your consideration and for bearing witneses etc’ but nothing prejudicial. Only one lady did get in touch out of four witnesses and CCTV from the bus. I sent everbody flowers after the court case. Execept for the copper. He gets sworn at on every climb as he goes shooting off 🙂
Your wife behaved much better than I did. I got a Police Caution for chinning the driver.

Very similar to my incident last year. I was rammed into the side of a bus. Both myself, the bus and the car driver were stationary at the time. He turned the car into me and drove forward, pinning me and the bike against the bus but in essence, the same situation as your wife.
Now, time to calm yourself right down and let the smug glow of justice descend (fingers crossed).
The driver of the car got £750 fine, 12 month driving ban and 40 hours community service.
I got the day off work and a new road riding mate. He’s the traffic policeman who attended the scene.
It wrote off my front wheel, frame and handlebar and I’m still arguing with Direct Line about it but I can live with that.

I was on Jacobs Ladder today. Sheet ice most of the way up from Hayfield and the wind at the top was bonkers. I should have left the bike at home. A waste of a day.

Hand held up. Not quite Marple. I’m next door to it although I ride Marple Rd (A626). Usually to Eccles, occasionally Moss Side and even less frequently Reddish.
Route: A626, Hempshaw Lane, A6 to Dickenson Rd then down to Moss Side or Chorlton, Salford then Eccles or A6 to School Lane and into Reddish.
Sometime cut through Edgeley to Cheadle and then Kingsway, Rusholme, Chorlton….

Bored of you on the Internet as well now.

I’ve just watched a recording of the match. It was as good on TV, better even, than it was at the ground.
Vincent Kompany obviously knows better. It was always going to be a teeth sucking moment after he’s gone in like that. Applause to Nani for staying up and not playing it up but we can’t complain. Those type of tackles are banned for a reason.
The ref;s decisions seem to be more balanced on veiwing it on TV. Still some corker bad decisions though.
I’m looking forward to United v Liverpool on TV but really looking forward to going to the match on Wednesday. I think we’ve got tickets for Anfield as well.
Junky. I emailed having been invited to do so, the same as you. I wouldn’t bother again. It’s more of the same juvenile tripe.

I’m just back from the match. What a game. Beaten 3-2 but we can still hold our heads high. United fans on the train were all sighing with relief and have concerns as to how things are looking at Old Trafford. Victims of their own success. Still, what a club they have been. We have a very long way to go before we can even stand shoulder to shoulder with them.
Kompany. I’ve not seen it on TV and missed it on the big screen at the game (I think they showed it at half time). What was he sent off for? It looked like a standard tackle from our angle.
A fantastic game. The atmosphere in the ground was immense. I doubt even the most biased of United fans could honestly say the ref. had a good game although we got a way with one or two decisions as well.
Wayne Rooney doesn’t do himself any favours in popularity away from United.
It was sad to see a portion of out fans trying to get “Whose that….” going but reassuring that everybody else boo’ed it down.
Weired really.Beaten by United but still happy. I’m normally unbearable for days after a losing derby (and longer still after a wining derby). What a fantastic game and thank you Mancini for the goalie deciosion, if only for the comedy effect of 30 odd thousand City fans screaming “Run you F***er, RUN!!!” :-).
Now then, Liverpool on Wednesday. I love being a Blue.

Silly Tedious Little Man from London, give it a sodding rest, would you?

The frame’s too small mate. You’re going to struggle, whatever you do.
Look at the height of the saddle in relation to the centre of the bars on Crikey’s and the Trek. Then look at the length of distance in between the nose of the saddle and the ventre of the stem.
If the saddle on yours is in the right position in relation to the bottom bracket, the top tube is too short for you.
To get the bar set up correctly in relation to the rest of the bike (as can be seen in Crikey’s and the Trek), you’d be doubled over like you’re on your way to touching your toes.
All this is just based on pictures of the bike. How about a picture of you riding it? It would be clear as day then that the frame is too small.
I don’t think you’ll ever get right on it.

I use arm, full leg and knee warmers on just about every commute, weekend ride etc from late autumn to early spring.
Make sure they fit properly and are decent quality.

“You..[he} are spending hundreds for every £ the charity gets”

So in essence, he’s spending hundreds or more of his own money to go on a really good extended bike ride that most of us would love to but can’t and he’s going to raise some money for a charity as well?

The (or your) problem therefore is?….

I hope you have a really good time Ian.

“Apparently that Poynton section has already slowed down the speed of the traffic passing through it,….”

The central reservations are still being worked on so there are bollards and road signs all over the place (up until last Monday, anyway) on the London Road sections. I think Chester Rd and Park Lane are bollard free already.
It’s actually two implied roundabouts if I remember properly but an impatient car driver was griefing us at the time so I may have made that bit up.

The brickwork road layouts still channel lanes in each direction with different coloured bricks and clearly has one (I’m sure there are two) roundabout in very easily identifiable differing brickwork.

Would the exact same coloured shared space surface have been better? The paved sections are as identifiable as standard white markings. It seems to defeat the point other than there isn’t a raised kerb for pedestrians.

Still, they must know what they’re doing. It’d be mint if it works.

Aha! Not made up! Two roundabouts! http://www.hamilton-baillie.co.uk/index.php?do=news&nid=25

I rode through that very arrangement in Poynton on Monday of this week. As they’re still working on the approach and exits, the roads are very narrow so cars had little choice but to wait behind me but I also predict carnage when it’s all fully open.
They cane it already on the section from Brookside Garden Centre….

What Bruneep said. He sees it first hand. More laws and punishments should be based on the opinions and findings of the poor sods personnel who have to deal with the immediate impacts and consequences of the crimes.

“I tend to look at the front wheel and kerb, then take the odd glances up.”
That would scare the life out of me! Both doing it or riding with you. Exciting certainly 🙂

Can I point to the obvious, while it’s all well and good highlighting the pro’s bar position, they are really rather good at riding road bikes while the gentleman posting the original question is really rather, at riding a road bike, to coin his own oft’ used phrase…”shite”.
Not much use in advising flat or negative degree bar position at this point based on elite or professional riders preferences.
    Just sayin’….

I’ve lived here most of my life and it’s always been known by the locals as Poisebrook Valley although we used to call that stretch of the Goyt River Poisonbrook due to the filth that seeped into it via Poisebrook at Trident Foams (now sited in Furness Vale, I believe – I’m full of tangents today).

    Definitely only one bridleway 🙂

    monksie

Going slightly off on a tangent but for some reason, the Goyt Valley seems to have extended it’s reach into the Marple/Offerton area of Stockport according to a sign at the start of the bridleway from Otterspool to Bredbury. Further more, Rick from North West Mountain Bikes is featured in the new MBR taking them around Wood Bank (sic) which runs alongside the above mentioned ‘Goyt Valley’ bridleway.
Nothing in or around Woodbank other than the boring bridleway above is legally rideable so that should make for an interesting read.
    I did say I was off on a tangent, didn’t I?

Road Sportive’s at least one per month or century or longer audax if there isn’t a sportive (A century per month challenge).
    Sarn Helen over three days
South Downs Way in a day quicker than my previous
    Mountain Mayhem and SitS solo
I really want to do Middleton Top to as far north as I can on the Pennine Bridleway in the time logistics and my wife will allow.

    Well done that man!

Does it have it be a bicycle? Bearing in mind the delicate subject of your dad’s posterior, this could be genius or ridiculous but I’ve seen a couple of people racing along the A6 in Stockport on them.

Selle Italia SLR. Stripped down to the bare carbon base. It should be hideous but it’s actually heaven. 9 out of 10. It could do with just a little flex on the broadest of egdes to be 10. I might try and slim one down and see how it goes.
I’ve sold a few to others who have tried it as well so it’s not just me with a freakishly tough bottom.
