Yes. Our 8 year old Westie loves a ride in the Bob Yak. I line the base with a couple of blankets and he sits in it for hours as long as I keep moving. He jumps out and wanders off if I stop and he’s not keen on rocky stuff. If we’re going on to the road he has to have his harness on and clip it to the trailer frame or he’d probably kill himself and the first motorcyclist that went past.
monksieFree MemberYou hurt me Mr Nettles….every time, a metaphorical punch to the face 🙂
That notorious gangster took his last breath in Marple. The Police went to my brothers house in Brinnington within an hour of the incident. One of their prime suspects apparently. Wasn’t him though. He was in Wakefield jail in the 2nd year of his 8 for armed and aggravated robbery.
monksieFree MemberArt galleries, museums, theatres, cinemas, bars, pubs, country walks, country parks, parks, roman dig, sculpture and round house at Mellor Church, canoeing (you can hire all the gear you need), friendly cyclist (who will lend you a bike and show you some great on and off road rides), climbing wall, cycle speedway, gyms, sports halls, athletics track…..
Sink estates, 1970’s designed and not very attractive town centre, traffic issues on the A6, its fair share of chav inhabitants, me ….
Not The Garden of Eden but not Dante’s 3rd level either
Same as just about every other edge of a large city town in the UK but let’s not spoil it for thegobshite, predictable boresmore vocal haters on here.monksieFree Memberhora – Special Member
“Rehome the least favourite son”
It’s his son, not a westie….
monksieFree MemberYou’ll manage. Trust me. Be specific in your training. Do it lots but with rest days and you’ll be more than fine over 7 days.
You need strength and aerobic stress. Not fast cadence anaerobic stuff. You go anaerobic on those climbs, you’re in trouble.monksieFree MemberGo and ride up a long, steep, technical hill. Ride down it again. If you then can’t go straight up another one, turn round and go back up the hill you’ve just come down. Do this as often as you can.
If you don’t have any decent hills nearby, go up what you have in a couple of gears harder than you would normally.
Do this on consecutive days. Good rest of a few days in between. Do it again but more. Good rest again in between,
There really is no need to be too scientific for this.
Training needs to be specific to what your goal is.
No point doing sprint training with an optimum peak period if your goal is not to win a two lap track race for example.
Ian’s suggestion of hill walking is also good. Muscle adaptation in your legs and core along with sustained aerobic stress.
Focus the mind? In what respect? You either want to do it and enjoy it or you’re not commited and if you do it, you’ll endure it.
Make a decision and stay with it. Even a pedal turn by pedal turn training plan requires mental conviction to complete it.
If you need the psychological structure of a training plan, write your own.
Find the hill. Ride up and down if as often as you can. Remember how many times and how long. Rest for two days or easy cycle or walk. Eat well. Drink lots of water. Go back and do 10% quicker (if you can) and one more rep (if you can). Rest etc. for two days. Go back and do it 10% more again. repeat….up or lower your effort as you feel. Take and extra two days rest every fourth cycle. Complete rest until you feel better if you start to feel ill or overly lethargic.
Go and have an ace time in the Alps.monksieFree MemberCome over to the Stockport side. It’s clear over here. It builds up more and more as you go further toward the Peaks but there is some great routes from here out to Hayfield and back that are all rideable.
A bit of a drive to get here though.monksieFree MemberI won’t be doing it again until it thaws out. I even braved the miserable sour faced cafe cow to get a warm up.
monksieFree MemberStockport to Hope. Roman Lakes. Mellor Church. Robin Hood Picking Rods, Middle Moor. South Head. Royce Clough. Rushup Edge. Pindale. Hope.
The snow was white, cold but not slushy. Deep in lots of places. Not much ice. Very muddy.monksieFree MemberThe guy got an upgrade absolutley free of charge and you mugs are seeing your arses about it?
Really bitches? Really?
If he’d not wanted the upgrade, he could have declined and got his money back, surely.
Pauls’ Cycles sent me a 2012 Cannondale Supersix with upgraded wheels instead of the bog standard 2011 version for no extra cost. They telephoned me on a Sunday to check it would be OK before they posted it on the Monday. By your logic, I should have been gutted. I’m really not though.monksieFree Member“…..he’s seemed fine recently”
Sadly, this is when you * really * need to keep an eye on the buggers.
The days before I last took a bottle of sleeping and anti dep. pils were the calmest of my adult life.
It is very sad and I’m sure you’ll be running the full gauntlet of emotions as God only knows will his family if they cared about him but try not hate him for what he’s done.monksieFree Member£300 for a courier bag? My Tour Divide cargo carrying capabilities will be supplied by the much more austere Wildcat Gear.
It looks lovely but I can’t justify that much money.monksieFree Member£5 per car to get in these days. The new adventure playground is worth it though. Free for bikes and pedestrians and a free shuttle minibus ride from the main gate to the main car park.
Eccles Pike at Chapel could be worth a go for sledging tomorrow. My mate in Whaley has binned the road ride in favour of sledging.monksieFree MemberNo. I’ve just ridden through there. I think Goyt Valley might be a better option.
monksieFree MemberI have a C3 post here doing nothing. If it has the part you’re after, you can have it.
monksieFree MemberOh my very word. Thia is right up my street. Fantastic. Thank you.
monksieFree MemberThank you DrP. A degree of perspective has been reached. I’ll ring the practice manager back and apologise for my manic rant…if she’ll take my call.
monksieFree MemberMany thanks polarisandy. A considered and reasoned response and has put the whole thing into perspective for me.
I’ve spoken to the practice manager. They’re toning down the wording but they won’t remove it altogther.monksieFree MemberNow it’s my turn to sigh.
I’ve not cheated, I’ve not got crabs, and I would much rather all and sundry didn’t see my diagnosis, symptoms and treatment of/for Bipolar.
And with that, I thank you and bow out.
(I’m still trying to find a reference to the WHO and NICE guidelines though).monksieFree MemberIt was a highly unlikely example used to over emphasise but make abundantly clear my thoughts that this is a breach of confidence and I am right to be outraged ( 🙂 )!
and hahaha at McAitch up there 🙂
OK then. Wife calls in foe her own script and asks in a helpful way. “Any for any other family members? I’ll take them all while I’m here”.monksieFree MemberLet’s be a little grown up for a minute.
Here’s an example. Sorry to disapoint but it really is an example
Wife goes to gp’s to collect ‘scripts. Husband’s ‘script says “100mg of cough mixture to be taken twice weekly for the treatment of genital crabs”
Wife does not have and never has had genital crabs. Was also wondering why husband was keeping his hands (and other body parts) to himself lately.
Just to be clear. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE 🙂
Breach of patient confidentiality or a little overly sensitive Hels?monksieFree MemberThing is though DPA Officer Hels, this is symptoms as well as the name of the condition! Properly labelled with the name and amount of meds, when to be taken etc. is fine by me, I’m a mentalist. Without this I might forget but a description of symptoms? It’s an outrage!
monksieFree MemberSigh indeed
It clearly bothers me (and another, younger member of my family with a very personal and some what embarrasing condition) more than it bothers you then.
I know what i’m getting copious amounts of meds. for and I know what those meds are and should be. Why does every bugger else need to know?monksieFree MemberI kind of think the horse has already bolted though. By discussing this, two guys might not get their bikes nicked this week and the guy in the coffee shop might keep an eye out.
Yin and yang and all that.monksieFree Member“They are the most special people on this earth”
Not for me by a long measure but my wife is loved very much indeed by our daughter so we’ve made a special fuss of her today.monksieFree MemberIs platform 4. He locks it up in the chelsea stands when he gets off at platform 4 in the morning and collects it on the way back home and then goes to platform 0 (I think).
A black and white basic level Giant Defy was also having its locks weighed up on Friday.
The person sat in the the small tuck shop in between 3 & 4 probably has an excellent view. The missing person board might get in the way a bit though.
I spent quite a lot of time at Stockport station last week.
I’d email you directly but their isn’t an email in your profile.monksieFree MemberPlatform 4. Somebody needs to have a word with the young guy who gets on the Buxton train around 4;30pm. His white Carrera looks like it is likely to be next.
These are by no means high end bikes which doesn’t mean to say their theft is any less a crime. More that even your hack bike is a target.
The Felt for instance (as best as I can remember) was Sora equipped and the Voodoo was Acera.monksieFree MemberI really wish I had an under or over active thyroid problem. I had a blood test for it (and a lot of things in between} and I’m now diagnosed with bipolar.
Tears streaming down my face in the car park of the Trafford Centre this afternoon and that look of dread on my wife’s and daughter’s faces.
Please excuse me but I ******* hate this life. I’m now in the spare bedroom with only my phone for company.
Sorry. No idea why I’m typing this bollocks. The internet is not good for me.
ps. if you bought an item from me from these classifieds the other day, don’t worry, they went in the post yesterday.monksieFree MemberThat looks great, thank you. Cuppa and cake at Outside as well.
monksieFree MemberHope and Edale are very definitely Dark Peak but thank you anyway.
That could be useful Jon, thanks. Pavillion Gardens would do for a cuppa. They can walk back up the hill 🙂
Anybody have anything around Chatsworth, Eyam, that kind of thing?monksieFree MemberThe Osprey hydraulics bladder system is much better than the Geigerrig.
monksieFree MemberHow would the compression strap thing work?
I have the 500 http://www.cyclesurgery.com/pws/UniqueProductKey.ice?ProductID=CGEI0004YY. I won’t have another. You have to put the filled bladder in first, then pack everything you want to take with you into the pack and then put it on. Pump the bladder up, it pushes hard on to your back in a not altogether comfortable way. Both the bladder tube and the air tube release themselves quite randomly. No fluid leaks out but you suddenly find yourself with no drink and you have to unpack the whole thing and start again.
5 out of 10 from me. I wouldn’t bother again.monksieFree MemberThere’s a bit of a buzz going around a certain establishment that the Moorside could be becoming a Prison Service Hospice.
Road riding the A6 is fun. Nothing like as frightening as people seem to believe.
Semms Link road is going to have a massively positive effect on Hazel Grove’s traffic but you may need to have a look at it’s route before you buy a house Mr N.monksieFree MemberRomiley is the same as any and every other area of Stockport other than Brinnington and Adswood (don’t….just don’t) and Mellor (see below) in that they have council estates that are getting on in age and as such, are not as nice as they once were. The Cherry Tree estate in Romiley has a very poor reputation, much like the Rose Hill and Waterside estates in Marple and Offerton estate in, predicatably, Offerton.
As Romiley is a compact area, it feels the effect of the estate more than most areas.
The Cambridge Road area of Woodley (just up the hill from Romiley) is nice but don’t go to far or you’ll be in to Woodley’s council area.
*Disclaimer to appease the serially offended*
I am by no means a Council Estate Fascist being born in a house in Gorton’s council housing estate and brought up screaming and kicking on Offerton Council Estate.
I’d bin all of the above and any other apart from Mellor. yes. Mellor. Go there. Beautiful and the only area of Stockport that is correctly noted as being a village.
Even Heald Green and Gatley have council owned houses although they try their best not to admit it 🙂
