Smaller end of the scale chainrings would be preferable. Mostly Peak light riding and budget up to £150 (ish) including bb if I can. Double as well. I’m not keen on single rings and huge cassettes.

Ride your normal ride. It’s up to the group to stay back, come past or what ever. Jumping in is a bit shit though. Sit on the back to check the pace and then if you’re up for it, let who ever is at the back know you can group ride and check it’s OK to rotate. The word would go up and down the pack to let everybody know and anybody not keen could pull out and drop back.

Whilst insults, accusations and assumptions are flying about, has anybody even suggested that the original question was borne out of a desire to imply that the cost and payment (whenever that maybe and paid by whom that maybe) is unreasonable or is it an interested enquiry as to how much the cost is?
I’m interested in how much something like this would cost. That is all. No other motive. Just an interest in how much this would cost.
    Calm down.

Why does asking out of interest, how much an operation like this would cost to finance make somebody devoid of compassion?
Nobody asked “How much does this cost because I reckon it could be millions and I think that’s its poor value for money and they should just leave him there to get better….or not get better?”

I think they’d settle for a ‘non fault’ £3500 and be pleased with it. They’ll draught something up so that you agree that it will be the end of the matter, even if your head falls off two days after the cheque is received.
Not wearing a helmet will be taken into account if you go to court. As will the motorist running into the back of you. They’re the facts. Not opinions.
Clearly the motorist’s fault so the insurance company will have to pay out regardless.
Going to court, in fact, spending very much time at all dealing with this will very quickly costs the insurance company more than £3500 but don’t take the piss. You’re dealing with this in isolation. The insurance company is looking at the numbers. if they go daft for one, they’ll quickly be getting hammered from everywhere.

I’ve travelled lots on Virgin with my bike. I’ve booked it on (highly recommended if not essential) and I get return tickets for it. The bike goes in the locked guards van. They wouldn’t allow me to lock the bike to anything but then again, the guard had to unlock the van and despite us on one occasion having a right old chat on the Euston to Stockport train about the SDW I’d just done, he insisted on seeing my ticket for the bike before he would open the guard van.
I like taking my bike on Virgin trains.

Lodger is a lodger not a Tenant therefore has no liability but still has an effect on Single Occupier Discount aka Single Person Discount. The Owner Occupier is higher up the Hierarchy of Liability. If the owner moves out, the lodger becomes the Tenant and in turn becomes liable for the council tax and at this point would be named on the bill as the liable person (not random capitalisations as they’re important titles that can make a world of difference. The terminology is important in council tax).

The lodger can’t or indeed shouldn’t be named as a liable person (ergo have their name on the bill) unless they are ‘joint and severely’ liable which means named on the deeds / mortgage or tenancy agreement or financially linked
Even a person whose wife or husband who is on the mortgage etc. but who for instance is a full time student, wouldn’t be named on the bill as they are not ‘liable’.
Having said that, most council’s don’t have the resources to check everybody and wanting to be made J & S is seen as a good thing. More people to go after if the bill is unpaid.
Getting yourself out of J&S on the other hand is more difficult. You usually need a council tax bill or proof of lodgings at a different address.
A lot of time is spent wasted in the council tax departments where somebody (with an axe to grind) calls up and pretends to be the person they’ve got issues with. Advises the council they no longer live alone and Michael Mouse or Ben Dover, has moved in and ‘whoosh’ that’ll be the end of your single person discount, council tax benefit, free school meals etc right there and then. All suspended. One phone call to end it, months of hard work to get it back! Scary shit. This was my job. I’m glad it’s not anymore.

Fancy chainlining with me? That’s my commute as well.
Memorial Park, canal, Chadkirk, Goyt Valley Bridleway, Pooh Sticks Bridge over the Goyt, woods by Woodbank, Vernon Park singletrack and then either subway into Stockport and onto Trans Peninne Trail alongside the Mersey or Gas Works, Reddish Vale, Fallowfield Loop.
A few options but to be honest, when you get past Vernon Park apart from the Vale (which isn’t all that) it’s a bit rubbish.
More often than not, I do the A6.

You can borrow my SuperSix Mr. Nettles, next time you’re near Biddy Land ( aka Marple ). It’s a 54 though so it might be a bit small. I can whack a 130mm stem on and a shove the saddle back. Won’t be ideal but you’ll get a feel of the frame.

Thanks Spooney. I’ll have a look at them.

The Crud Racers (as you will be aware) fasten with zip ties around the seat tube and the seat stay brace. I’m sure you will also be aware that on a disc specific cyclocross frame, the extra clearance afforded for the larger tyres means that an anorexic 23mm tyre is nowhere near either the seat stay brace or seat tube. Further more, as the Crud Guards are so narrow as they are designed to sit so close to the tyre, they won’t really be suitable if they’re positioned 4″ or more away from where they should be.

You are not the only person with this illness Iolo. Different perspectives and different experiences.
You know your triggers? Good for you.
Sadly, other sufferers don’t have tangible ‘triggers’ and their family especially, really struggle to cope.
My advice is and always will be stay away if you can.

As somebody who ‘sees’ the effects of mental illness on people who care, I’d highly recommend staying well away if you can.

I’m heading out at 3:00am tomorrow* to ride up to York racecourse for the Tour depart thing. As the hour gets closer, I’m looking forward to it less and less.

*Unless I ‘forget’ to set the alarm.

Yes, it really is. You can even pack it in and get the train home if you don’t feel like completing it. Nobody cares ( let somebody know though).
Unstressed the whole thing. It’s an anti race. Just a long bike ride. Enjoy it.w

I knew before I clicked in to this that there would be a mention of ‘racing’ or long mileage. You never disappoint oldgit 🙂
It’s an audax in the UK, not a transverse of New South Wales.
Pedal. Eat when you want something to eat. Stop when you want to stop. Sleep when you want to sleep. Take some cash. Buy an ice cream. Enjoy other riders company. Enjoy the ride. It’s not a race.
Nobody cares if you don’t unclip once for the whole route or if you only just make the cut off. Just you……desperately caring it would seem….

You don’t need an eye test! The saddle needs to be flat, the stem needs flipping, the bars need rotating down, you need to sell it and buy the next size up.
    You’re welcome.

    monksie

You also need to get the rear qr in between the seat and chain stay. Then you need to sell it and buy the next size up.

    monksie

The real issue though is the bottle. It should be white.
Flatten the seat angle, fit a 120mm stem, turn the bars round so the levers are vertical (or slightly tipped up at most), sell it and buy the next size up.

    monksie

Surely this is a wind up? That seat angle? I’m surprised it’s not putting your chin on the stem!
Other than that, the bars need turning down, the stem is too high (but if it’s comfy…it just looks shit) and generally, the whole perspective of the saddle height and stem makes the top tube look short.
I would say the bike Is too small for you. It should be long and low.
I still think this is a wind up. The saddle angle is too obvious.

Well, just in case you’re still looking, I’ve been out today around Goyt Valley, Buxton, Perryfoot, Rushup etc. on and off road and yet again, I’ve had a great time on this (no guard or rack mounts though).

Thanks Daffy. It rides superbly. I normally choose 54cm road bikes but I went for 52 with the Colnago. I fitted a 120mm stem and pushed the seat right back on its rails and it handles better than any road or ‘cross bike I’ve had before. The bars are 5mm lower than in the photo now as well.

I get water from the garages. If I’m worried about the bike, I put it where I can see it from the shop, helmet strap through spokes and if possible around something on the forecourt. My theory being, I will see somebody bending down at my bike before they can grab it and ride off. Also flick the levers when I get off so that the chain will crunch if somebody does try to ride off on it. Having said that, I’ve not had a single worrying moment in years of riding.

It’s a two week old bike. The one I was working on made a right bang just as the spanner slipped. I shit it feared the worst and put the spanner down.

You could pay £50 refundable deposit on both, go to the store when they’re both in, try them both on a test ride outside the shop and get the £50 back on the one that you don’t want.
You’ll be wanting the medium ….or at least I would if we were similar height….which we’re not…..not that I’m criticising or anything…..

    monksie

If I was stunted the same height as you, I’d go for the medium.
    You’re welcome.

I do 20 miles each way 5 days per week with a mixture of being on my feet and sitting down while at work. It sometimes gets a bit tedious and I only ride once (road, cross or mountain bike) at the weekend.
I hate driving though and public transport would take nearly two hours each way due to the convoluted route.
