Some interesting comments here, so I think I will add my 2p…. I am a cop, (awaits pitchforks/donut jokes) advanced driver and all that stuff, I have been caught speeding too, again just a drop in concentration (just the once in 25+ years of driving mind) . MTFU and take your punishment, you broke the law so deal with the consequences. Simple.
Driving and owning a licence is a privilage not a right, in my 17+ years I have dealt with some horrendous stuff that came as a result of a minor lapse in concentration, I have dealt with people who should not be put in charge of a TV remote, never mind a motor vehicle.
Most mobile speed cameras are a joint local authority/police initiative, and often the locations are advertised on local websites many weeks in advance!
    Example…..

So do we have any excuses for being caught?

Hello Jamie, i have the Rose Granite chief (2013) 26inch wheel. I love the bike, full xt, revelation forks, crank bros etc. paid just 1500 for it. The only thing i changed was the saddle. The bike is anodised black and looks great. The monarch reaer shock needed a bit of fettlingto set it up correct, I run slightly more sag (about 30%).

The bike is brilliant however I did have a minor issue when i bought the bike. I waited about 3 weeks for delivery, it came nearly fully built in a mahoosive box. When i put the seatpost in the post was catching insidethe seat tube, there appeared to be a small amount of swarf in the seat tube catching the post.
I spoke to Fin the UK contact who arranged for collection of the bike, came next day, repaired and sent out same day. So i was without the bike for 3 days. Rose (germany) also repaced the seatpost as it had been scored slightly.

Fin was superb to deal with, spoke on the phone, kept me updated. I would recomend them.

    Hope this is some help.

Bigblackshed, blimey, you sound worse than me!!!! I really hope you get sorted mate. It is funny, the pain is quite remarkable. Like you say, at best a horrible dull ache but when it gets bad it makes me a grumpier so and so….
I guess i should resign myself to the pain..

I am in North Wales mate. The physio I have is a private one (i couldn’t wait 8 weeks for NHS)! She was the GB basketball team physio and came highly recommended. I may try codiene for pain relief cheers. Long term is a bit of a concern, over 40 now so i am guessing I won’t be 100% again. Cheers for the advice, much appreciated. :-)

Rangerbill, all the docs have given me is 400mg ibuprofen. I am ok standing (it just aches) but sat down is terrible. I can manage a car journey of about 5 minutes before i have to stretch out!! The physio exercises have geen ok, loads of stretches, piriformis and lumbar rolls which are ok. Ha, the physio did say i would feel a small prick….

My wifes mini has the can of sealant, absolute garbage. Rather have a space saver any day than that rubbish.

On another note, whilst travelling home on the M6 a few months ago I was passed by a lady in an Alfa Romeo. She had a space saver on the rear, I was travelling at (70)honest officer…. 8O

If you’re riding for recreational purposes, why would you want to ride such a crowded route anyway?
People generally only walk up Snowdon because it’s the default Welsh mountain to walk up.
I’ve never been there. Is it any better than any other Welsh mountain for cycling on, or is it a similar lack of imagination that draws cyclists there?

We normaly organise a club ride once a year (before the restrictions), up the Llanberis path, down the rangers and along the telegraph trail. We make a good full day with lunch in llanberis too. The riders we often meet are just ticking off the mountain as done that, where next or are filling in a weekend with Snowdon on one day, trail center the next. It is a challenge but i suppose once you have done it, why do it again.

Some interesting comments. As an administrator with NWMBA I know of the work that has gone into providing and maintaining access for ALL user groups on Snowdon. The Voluntary ban is there for a reason, and it is in place at certain times to avoid conflict and incident. Both NWMBA, local rights of way officers and other user groups agreed this was the best compromise, and a great deal of time and work went in to this.
We can’t stop riders from using the mountain at any time, we can’t stick a bouncer on each route to enforce this, so please, please be sensible. We are a minority group and as such we need to be head and shoulders above the rest and try to be ambassadors for our sport. If we stick to the ban then i am sure we will continue to be able to enjoy the mountain for a long time to come. When the time comes to revisit our access rights, if we show we can use the mountain responsibly that can only be a good thing.
Oh, and please dont ride down the railway line either. That is a no no anytime of year. :-)

Hopefully access will be improved, but as with most political issues, I can’t see a rush job. But at least it is being considered which is a good thing.

Bloody hell, it was 17 years ago when i did it. If you need to give evidence for something use the STAR format, (Situation, task, action result). One tip i used all those (ahem) years ago was get a copy of the chief constables annual report for the last year, this will give you a heads up of policing initiatives, stats etc.
Sorry I can’ t give you much more advice. Good luck.
And yes, it takes about 12 months to process.
A few forces now are going down the route of only recruiting from the specials or sending new applicants on a degree in policing.

Hi grum. There is no easy answer i am afraid. We have been running NWMBA (north wales mtb association) for a long long time. Some of us are qualified mtb instructors, i have the MIAS award, but if you dont want to instruct, just get kids out for a ride then you are best covering yourself with the CTC. We just post rides on social media and anyone who wants to come along can, however anyone under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.
Here is the link for the ctc http://www.ctc.org.uk/membership/affiliate-membership-for-cycling-clubs-and-groups-of-all-types-and-sizes
This will cover you in case of incident.
Like i said you could just organise off road rides and offer anyone to join you, but with kids you never know. It may be worth asking parents to come along too, but this depends entirely on you.
These are just the basics, without going into risk assessments, h & s and all that stuff.

+1 for dogtag. 3 years ago one of our party had a serious crash on the first day. He spent the rest of the trip at Geneva hospital. He was insured with dogtag. The hospital just took a note of his policy number and claimed direct. No issues at all, very straight forward.

Frosty, just had a similar amount willed to us. Dont bother with banks, only investments over 50k will pique their interest. We invested 20k for our 12 yr old daughter with the halifax, 6% in the junior isa. We trawled around and found they offered the best rates without going into stocks n shares.

Sorry to hear that mate. Things will get better with time, the best thing for you and your kids is a routine. Enjoy the time you have with them. Do stuff. The time they are away, chill out, and be yourself. Get out on the bike.

Currently suffering from sciatica due to crash a few weeks ago, tis bloody painful. I was told 8 weeks wait for nhs physio, so paid myself to see one private.
Docs prescribed ibuprofen and told me to rest but made no difference. The biggest problem has been driving due to the pain. The only time the pain goes is standing up. Sitting is very painful. Plus once i have stood up the pain is really bad for about 30-40 seconds then subsides. So if you have none of the above it probably is just muscular and MAY not ge sciatic, ibuprofen and rest should help.
