When I lived in deepest rural North Wales a few years ago power cuts were a regular occurrence. We had a delightful Christmas trying to cook a dinner in a mates caravan!! You got used to them, we had a camping gas stove to make brews, extra sleeping bags and a supply of candles and reading material.
This was before the age of everything running on alexa and online tho, so no doubt civilisation will collapse within the first 5 minutes of the first blackout.

@ configuration. It’s not the Police that decide on the offences to prosecute, its the CPS. So the officers will offer all the evidence, and the CPS will decide which offence to move forward with to prosecute.
    https://www.cps.gov.uk/cps/news/cps-says-role-cps-deciding-whether-charge-individual-criminal-offence
So again, cops that arrest drug dealers, murderers, rapists, Paedophiles, serious assaults, deal with social care issues, domestics, vulnerable elderly people, missing children, suicides etc etc. So yeah, the Police are useless.

Police – we got a blanket payment of £1900 for all ranks. So depending on rank – between 8-5 %.

Change the Thread title to – “I had an interaction with a driver and wasn’t happy with the outcome, so I complained to the police who decided no crime had been committed so didn’t persue it….” Insted of “Are the Police useless?”
Are the Police who caught the lowlife who murdered the 9 yr old in Liverpool useless, or the Cops who are out there day in day out dealing with all the cr~p a broken society deals them each shift.
Do something useful, put in a Freedom of Information act request and find out just how many response cops are on duty today and tonight. Then find out how many immediate calls they have stacked up.
Then, when you see the scale of the problem they have to deal with and the numbers of boots on the ground, come on here and twine about how useless the cops are. Or replace cops with Paramedics/Nurses/Doctors/Teachers etc

    ###Rant over#### marks out of 10 please.

Yes yes…think of the children, the baby robins etc etc etc…..write a strongly worded letter to the chief constable.
Or start a thread on a cycling forum declaring the Police as a whole are useless. FFS.

Take the advice from a 20 yr experienced traffic officer and chalk it down to experience. Life is too short.
There are many factors why you’ll just have to shrug this off and move on.
The UK’s roads are crap. The police are too busy and underfunded/under resourced to deal with everything that is pushed their way. You’ve had first hand advice here from an ex officer. So no, the Police are not useless. That’s like saying the NHS is crap. Its not.
    So get over it.

I have just done this, SRAM guide R’s replaced with an MT5 front and MT4 rear. I just didn’t like the lever shape on the SRAM’s. The maguras are much better.

I use Fjallraven Vidda pro pants (Lake district Fell walking) and for warmer days a pair of Endura Humvee trousers which are ultra comfy for walking in.

I bought a Ti Camino from them last year, and the help and advice I received was first class. Since bought a Vir Fortis Fat Bike and again, lots of good help and advice. They do sell some good kit, and their staff are just lovely to deal with. So as a happy customer I would maybe look at investing a small amount.

Another Sciatica sufferer here. L5-S1 plus an endplate infraction to the marrow at L4. Some was due to injury, but some due to work. Saw a specialist who said if I didn’t change my role in work I would end up in a wheelchair. Lots of physio but no surgery, so when it happens again, its pain management.
I was advised the risks for surgery so didn’t want to go down that route.
Throughout all this the Doc’s said cycling was fine, but to avoid the off road stuff when it was bad.
There are some very good pain killers out there. But to anyone who has back issues you have my sympathy

Have you looked at the Diverge?

nice on and off road. I run mine with 40 mm Schwalbe G Ones which are a nice compromise for on and off road. Nice and comfy, good riding position and a fair few bolts for adding bags etc.

It was The Word. Think it was presented by Amanda De Cadanet at the time.
Anyone remember The Hitman and Her? I appeared on one episode in Southport’s Palm Court.
As Rowley Birkin would say, I was very very drunk

    Fast Show – Nice.
Bottom – saw the live version in Liverpool. Much better than the series (Hooligans Island)
The Wonder years- just google Fred Savage
Fraggle Rock – Jim Henson perfection.

+1 for the Diverge. Love mine, it can keep up with local road rides and thats running 1 x 10 and 40mm G-one’s.
I like the comfort and position which at 50yrs plus is always a bonus.
So much so one of the roadies I ride with has just bought a Ribble CGR Di2 with 105 after he tried my Diverge. He commented on the more comfortable position, but he wasn’t sold on the 1 x 10

Sure change occurs when a monarchy is abolished but that is invariably because the society is in a crises and change is deemed as a means of resolving the crises

As I recall, the people who run the country were attending party’s and sha~~ing their PA’s, whilst the monarchy were quietly going about mourning the loss of Phillip.

Our current PM is not elected. Not by the public anyway. Would you have preferred Boris’s noggin’ on the currency. the way we go through prime ministers we couldn’t have any leaders on our currency.
At least a head of state through blood/tradition gives the UK some sort of stability and separation from the asylum that is global politics.

I’m a Royalist. I had the privilege to meet several members of the Royal Family whilst serving in the forces. I’m also proud to be a member of the emergency services so my whole working life has had connections to the Queen.
She will be greatly missed, the royal family brings in tourism, they are linked to charities and they give the UK something to have pride in, unlike the muppets in government.
The Royal family is just that, a family. Who doesn’t have the odd ball in theirs? The queen did her duty until the very end. And that was what it was to her, a Duty. To the UK. To all of us. Which is more than any political leader could ever claim.
RIP Ma’am. Your duty is done.

This website has some great routes. Betws-y-Coed is always a popular place to stay, Llangollen is also very nice, with a few of the above routes in easy access.
