I suffer from Sciatica. Had it really bad about 3 years ago, Pilates and physio sorted me. It still returns for maybe a week or so. Been diagnosed with a disc bulge in the lower back. The stuff I carry in work doesn’t help. I was given Ibuprofen and a painkiller called Zapain.
Last resort is surgery to shave off some of the disc.

First “proper” bike (not a hand me down) was a red Chopper. I loved the warning on the seat that said “this cycle is only designed to carry one person”
First MTB was a Raleigh Montage

Cockermouth local here. Setmurthy has some great little trails. For an afternoon of push up/ride down it is great.
As for Whinlatter as above I ride up from Thornthwaite. There is a recently repaired bridleway that takes you up to the blue trail which starts on your left (at a Woden gate)on the road. Ride that to the visitors centre, ride the North Red, then South Red then the remainder of the blue back and back down the bridleway to Thornthwaite. I pop over to Portinscale (The Chalet Cafe) afterwards for coffee and cake.
For a full day you could add in the Borrowdale Bash after doing Whinlatter.

We have the Lakes Distillery just up the road in Bassenthwaite [Cumbria] .They are doing really well after only a few years, they are selling Gin and a blend [whiskey] before the single malt is ready. Seems to be very popular stuff. They are always busy with visitors and have a small cafe too…

the very best of luck kit 😀

I have lost a love of MTB’S. I have a very lovely 29er hardtails which I see as a tool. I haven’t had an urge to look at any other mtbs. I guess it’s like a perfect marriage.
I have had my eyes turned by road bikes of late. As such I feel cheap and dirty. Like 2 minutes with a cheap hooker 😀

Not BT, bunch of robbing barstewards. Just got rid of them after ombudsman intervention. Now with sky who appear to be best of a bad bunch.
Funnily enough had a letter and a bag in the post today asking for the BT equipment to be sent back for recycling.
Took the claw hammer to the hub and posted it back with a note which said “this is as broken as your customer service department and my will to live after 2hrs on the phone to them”
I hope they read the note. 😕

Moorsey, I used to live in Mold. Loads of quality riding around the Clwyds/Moel Famau. Join the NWMBA facebook group as the guys organise rides on there , or ask for a local to take you around. Nercwys Forest has some trails but these are mostly blue graded. But, it makes a great start point for some natural bridlepaths.

I hate these large groups that head into the hills. Thanks to social media they are becoming more frequent. Arseholes, they ruin other peoples days out due to the noise generated and space they take up, block paths, crowd out viewpoints and generally get up everyones nose. Anymore than a group of three/four people and they become oblivious to anyone else around them. Hope you all get punctures!

You don’t ride trail centres then?

Used to ride the old “Scouse run” DH track at Nannerch. We walked up that way last year and the track is still there albeit overgrown in places (aah memories) 😀

Just been through this. We initially wanted a VW Golf, 1-2 years old. The local VW dealer was rubbish and offered us a poor deal.
Went down the road to the Honda dealer as they had a nice Civic Tourer for sale (64plate) but when speaking to the salesman he advised they had an offer on a new but pre-reg Civic hatch. Turned out to be a better deal to buy brand new (but pre-reg) then 2nd hand.
It may be worth waiting until march when the registrations are due to change as the dealers may be wanting to shift more stock.

Terrahawk, I have just moved from N Wales to Cumbria. We lived in Mold , close to the Clwyd’s (great riding, close to Chester and the motorways). Daughter grew up in a Welsh school (Maes Garmon) but the main school was English speaking (Mold Alyn) . The area you are looking at doesn’t have that many Welsh High Schools. If your kids are going to junior school they get taught most stuff in English.
House prices are not too high in N Wales either. We had to downsize to get into a nice area in Cumbria. 🙂

I will try some electrolyte in my bottle. I tend to sweat a fair bit too so possibly I am losing some salts through that.
Just read the article above, the pickle juice theory is really interesting.
