I think large would be to big for me. The weight doesn’t really bother me as i could do with shedding a few pounds myself which is probably easier and cheaper than trying to put a bike on a diet and i’m used to pedalling heavy mtb/dh anyway.

I’m torn between both these bikes… i doubt i’ll be doing any racing but i do want to put in some (long for me) road miles as well as offroad, so maybe the croix is the better choice??

Could you for example hop over a gate or fence jumping of the leg that gives you pain? I snapped mine but was told by the hospital it was only some ligament damage despite me telling them I heard a pop in my knee after it over rotated. I walked about on it for 6 months and it didn’t feel right and there was no way I could have jumped off my sore leg. I went snowboarding 1st day hit a small jump, leg collapsed stretchered off the hill. Turned out the injury had happened six months before during the summer when heard it pop.

Deev if your seeing Colin walker your in good hands he’s supposedly the top dog in Scotland for knees. You’ll need more than 3 weeks of though!

I was encourage to get of the crutches after 2 days and then very gentle stretching and gentle strength work with the bands. Then one the wounds healed in the pool and then very gentle gym work. As said before its about getting the leg straight with full range of motion before strength. I work in kitchens and am on my feet all day. I was off for 4 months and just spent the time training and it seemed to have worked.

I’m based in Glasgow area aswell mate who did your surgery was it Colin Walker? You should go see a guy called Frank Gilroy he practices out of Hampden and you get access to the hydro therapy pool massively speeds up recovery time all though you do feel a bit like a horse in one of those training pools they go in.

I had this surgery 8 years ago, snapped it kite-boarding on the beach. Make sure you follow the rehab plan and put in the hours of exercise. I was lucky to get use of a hydro therapy pool which helped loads and then I just followed my physio’s rehab routine. I was back snowboarding the following winter and have never had any problems since. Cycling is really good as it keeps it all moving without stressing lateral movement. It took a few seasons to get my head round the fact that it was 100% fixed i wore a knee support for a few years when i was boarding but now ride without one. i know what you mean about trying to lift your leg up, the day before my op i was able to curl my leg and then after i had zero power as they used a slice of hamstring as the new ligament… a bit like a cheese string!

The guy with the broken frame was riding a 09 Meta 4x. I was marshalling at the bottom dib station of stage 4. I saw him go past on the climb up and was surprised to see one as I used to have the same frame and its not ideal for big days out in the saddle. Given my position on the track I could easliy tell the riders who were pinning it, by the way they tackled that last root/drop/corner section. Now fair play to that guy because he came down that section really fast I could not believe my eyes when I saw the frame, he should have got a prize for bravery/insanity in even attempting to ride that down stage 4

Spitfire is a great frame never really notice the weight and mine is built up heavier than most (old 36 van coil, DBair, dropper, chainguide, strong wheels). My medium v2 feels a lot longer in the top tube than the medium 26 bandit I tried. I bought the spitfire direct from banshee with no demo and have no regrets, I’m based in Glasgow if you want to try it.

I’m definitely go to a shop as I no nothing about road bike positioning or the bikes or components themselves. I’m gonna borrow the 56 just to ride a few local miles to see if I even enjoy road biking.

Thanks… from what I’ve been reading I thought the 56 would be a bit big. Will go get measured properly, anywhere recommendations for the Glasgow area, anybody?

Really like that, it’s the 1st 29er I’ve ever really thought about wanting to try out, I would love to hear a review after you’ve had some time on it. I have a spitfire v2 that I’ll be holding on to for a good few years but when the time comes to change this could be on the list!

You can get 135mm dropouts and use either standard qr or 10mm with that. I use this options as it fitted with my hubs. According to keith the designer, there is minimal differences between the 135 and 142mm axles in terms of lateral stiffness, as the back end of the frame is a solid triangle. It feels solid to me and I weigh 14st

Mr stu glad you liked the cakes my bakery made them. I’ll be making stuff for the Ews this weekend and then the glentress skinny and then for king of the hill. I love biking and make good cakes so I thought I’d combine the 2….

Hainman, the trails on your video are the ones I ride, I was wondering if there were more over towards the loch and descending to Dumbarton.

Is there more good riding up those hills? I haven’t really ventured past the trails that face the esrkine bridge

Do you have a GPS for this route up the kilpatricks… normally ride/push up from old kilpatrick and ride the dh trails but this trail you described sounds good.

I currently use 09 van rc2 and they almost feel like to much fork on easier trails. I was thinking that a 150mm Pike would probably make the ride a bit more engaging rather than just plowing through everything. I thought the 650b Pike would be the right fork for keeping the angles the same as well as future proofing the purchase.

    monkeyninja

A few people on mtbr use 650b with 26 dropouts with no problems, unless it’s really muddy or high volume tires think anything under 2.35 will be fine, if I change to 650b then I’d probably just keep the 26 dropouts. I am interested in hearing from anyone who is using a 150mm 650b pike with 26 wheels. How does this combo work for you?

I agree totally long travel banshee= prime. I just can’t get over how good this bike looks and if it rides like the way its supposed to, I might have to make the switch to a 29er.

I wouldn’t say the dbair makes the trail come alive but it does allow my bike to track the ground unbelievably well and offers ridculous amounts of grip.

    monkeyninja

Too many people get hung up about the weight of bikes, components etc… maybe take a big shit before riding will offset the weight penalty of the dbair!

I have one on a spitfire its easy to set up and tune…if you like messing with suspension! I don’t have the climb switch but I just add a couple of clicks of low speed rebound and compression for prolonged climbing… would definitely choose it over a ctd. But it depends what, where and how you ride.
