I drive in on a monday with a weeks worth of work wear. Mudguards are a must I don't get anywhere near as drenched now  I wear a softshell as it's warm and showerproof, but I have a gore tex paclite if it hoofs it down. I use a carridice saddlebag for my day to day stuff i.e lunch , undies tools etc

Go forth and try instead of chunnering on and trying to work it out:lol: Fixed is a whole load better than ss on the road I don't know the exact science but it's true.

It is 'kin stupid to have no brakes. These twunts who think it's cool want a clip around the ear

How can it possibly be more efficient?
You can't stop pedalling, so the 'motor' is always running. You're wasting energy.
Go downhill, freewheel, recover, speed up more than you would pedalling, get up the next hill faster. Simples.

Well imho I find I am a lot quicker on a fixed than a freewheel ss. Freewheeling is where you waste momentum, keep pedalling and you plough up those hills no probs. I have found that I hardly freewheel whilst mountain biking now thanks to fixed riding.

Too blimming right it does. I commute 120 miles a week and my mtbing fitness has vastly improved.

fixed gear is more efficient on the roads. I have road ss and fixed on the road and fixed wins for me every time.

I have trounced geared folk on my rigid ss, but I put that down to fitness. I am by no means a riding god or uber fit.

I ride a fixie for pure reliability and lack of maintenance/cost. On a plus side it has made me fit as **** cycling wise.

Wow this place is built for rigid singlespeeds!!! I loved it, I did 3 laps and grinned from ear to ear after it. My only minor crtiticsm was the signing it wasn't the best in places and a caution sign to when you are approaching a road would be handy too. The erosion was only a slight issue for me and I can imagine it this being a mud pit after rain though  I will be back there again v soon as it is a hoot.

I am not a massive fan of drops so I run flipped on-one mary bars on my pompino. They even have fetching Laura Ashleyesque sky blue bar tape on them

The stealer will always rip you off mate :) Discs and pads are really easy to do diy on a car. The calipers are quite easy too, I am no mechanical genius but when I had my MR2 I had to do my own work or keep forking out. It was an ace way to learn about cars :) I had never replaced calipers before but I did them all on my MR2 saving me £££££s Don't be afraid of diy if I can do it anyone can

I drink choccy nesquik and I find it's ace before or after my commute.
On that basi alone I think it's great and cheaper than the equivalent protein shakes.

Some tosspot in a lorryyyyyyyypuled out on me this morning luckily I could just swerve around the back of him (it was that close I was doing 20odd mph) It's not like it was gloriously sunny or anything. People do not pay attention.

luxuries useful luxuries but luxuries nevertheless.
So cars should be just for the rich not the masses then? Doesn't sound very socially inclusive

    Slightly off topic here.
I think cars are a luxury. Why people see it as ther right to own baffles me???? I mean how many people buy cars and can't afford to tax, insure, mot, service or repair them? I mean how inexpensive is it to replace a bloody bulb? But I see more and more cars with bulbs out or complete light failures. I pay a lot of dosh out to run 2 cars legally and keep them in a good state of repair.
