lol. Our coach got my lad doing gates in less than 45 minutes!! (the drop is a bit intimidating) He was absolutely petrified of them at first and would have a proper tantrum about doing them if I mentioned it. I walked away and let the coach go through it with him and BOOM he was gone!!!! He raced his first regional this weekend gone, not bad from being absolutely terrified 6 weeks ago. Sometimes the kids just need someone else to give them the confidence (something that was tough for me to take at first).

It’s not even real biking – you’re only cheating yourself – maybe when I’m eighty – they don’t say “hello”, you know

So many cliche quotes, so little time

It’s ridiculous really. She’s so nervous she never does anything at the kind of speed you couldn’t simply just stop and put a foot down. In fact most of the time she just gets off at the first hint of anything. I’ve ridden with some mincers before but holy cow.

Do you have local BMX club that runs novice sessions? Seriously, a decent coach will boost her confidence 100%. The difference I saw in my lad (age 7) after training with Kieran the coach at our club is ridiculous.
This confidence occurs when we are out riding normally too. It’s worth a try.

Get on Gumtree or Facebook (local BMX sales groups). For less than a ton you’ll get something good. Wethepeople offer excellent completes, I would look for something Cro-Mo too. HI-Ten will be ok if you are a whippet or racing snake.

I love my BMXs and it’s the most ridden thing in my garage. I have even got into racing them at a ripe old 39 :D

Pad up and wear a helmet though

I used to go an hour out of my way giving someone a lift home at a weekend. I just asked for my fuel to be covered.

One weekend he said I was ripping him off (I if anything I just about broke even petrol wise and I had an extra hour on my journey). I said fine then I won’t take you. It took him 3x the time and about 4x the cost to get home via the train

He came crawling back, I agreed to give him a lift again, but I didn’t go out of my way I dropped him en-route, where someone else had to collect him.

Some people can be ungrateful dicks.

This is absolutely laughable. Who let the children loose in the adult’s domain? Personally, I run a trusted VPN on all my devices as I like having my data to myself. Also, I love how the focus is on whatsapp like it is the only “encrypted” messaging service (whatsapp’s encryption is bobbins  )
How do they go about getting the data from diy disposable VPNs?

    A srs PC gamer yesterday

Please tell me that was not a serious post.

I’ve had a brief go on a mate’s Switch and it is good fun, but I wouldn’t want to commit just yet.

Skoda superb 1.4tsi? Massive, comfy and frugal (get 50mpg AVG on the computer on a run). Ok it isn’t a speed wagon but it does the job.

I think there is a bigger petrol engine too.

I might get a chipped ebike & get all the koms(?) I can (this is a strava thing yes?) to annoy all the haters. That would give me immense joy.

Troll mode activate!!! I like it  Folk take Strava wayyyyyyyy too seriously.

My Mrs has got a 2013 1.2 Panda. It’s not massively refined, but by ‘eck it’s reliable. I quite like driving it too, as it’s like a little go kart round corners. I would buy another for sure.

    Edit: wrong year

This thread is so judgemental in places. I wish I could afford an e-bike, as due to an ongoing knee injury I can’t ride any distance on my bikes.
I rode a Scott hybrid e-bike when I was fit and it was an absolute hoot (who would have thought riding bikes was fun!!). You would think these things are coming to burn your homes down the way some folk respond!!
    Lighten up!

Well. There may be good news on the horizon :) She got a phone call from a more pleasant company today and has an interview on Thursday, so fingers crossed!!!!

    No trying involved.

“I’m sorry but due to you expecting me to work hours outside my normal time I do not wish to continue my employment with you.”

    Done.

We wish she could! Unfortunately bills need to be paid :(

In that comment, I believe Monkeychild is suggesting that his wife it trying to look for another job – not trying to get paid for training.

Yup!!! The director played a very good game at the interview. She now knows there is a very high staff turnover and Indeed has recently published bad reviews about it.

Too late now, we know!!! But at least she can whistle blow and hopefully stop someone getting killed (there are very bad practices with drugs).

If that’s right then I’d **** them off and go elsewhere

    She’s trying

Is there anything in the contract about these training courses?

    She hasn’t got one.

If it’s to allow her to do her job then it’s not so simple.

It isn’t compulsory to do her job as she is already fully qualified. In her previous roles these types of courses have been during the working day. By the sounds of it, they treat their staff like slaves (from other stuff she’s said).

She is looking for a new job (she’s gutted she left her old job as she only took this one due the hours fitted better around school), as the workplace is toxic and they are breaking rules and cutting corners in other ways. She’s worried about being sacked for not doing these bloody things.

If it’s compulsory such as H&S then I believe you will get time in leu at equivilant hours, so flat rate not time and a half.

It’s compulsory in the fact that if all staff complete it, the owners get paid extra (she works in a community pharmacy). The staff are just expected to do it in their own time.

This is horrible news. I briefly spoke to mike at the 2013 24/12 and this on his top tube has always stayed with me (sorry photo wouldn’t link) inspiration
    A sad loss, RIP Mike

I bought one about 3 years ago. The garden I had was big so self propelled was a treat. My current garden isn’t that big so I rarely use that feature.
It’s still going strong if that helps.

2” big apples on Planetx. £5.99

    Cheers Ton :)

Just ordered a set for my hybrid.

I reckon a lot of people overlook a decent rigid mtb for commuting with something like the big apples / supermotos on

I made this mistake! I bought a CX bike and after the honeymoon period I realised it wasn’t the best tool for me. The Pinnacle hybrid I bought 2nd hand is far more versatile IMHO, YMMV.

I’ve spent 8 months in Oman. The dive centre by all bustan is ace. Try waddi bashing if you can. There was only one bike shop in Oman owned by some German dude (proper nice guy) and they did shop rides. The people are very friendly, jebel akhdar is interesting if modern history is your thing.

I still haven’t forgiven Ubuntu for an update that trashed my box the night before a pen test exam!! Ok it was probably the repos fault, but I am holding Ubuntu personally responsible  If this happens again…. oh hello snapshot :D

I will no doubt get flamed but…. As a Linux desktop user for 13 years, I switched back to Windows after it came on a Thinkpad I bought (I was going to wipe it and install Mint) I now run my Linux distros in VMWare workstation pro and have had less faffing (I feel dirty saying that). I use mine more for pen testing/security stuff so YMMV, but WIN 10 just works (shudders). Ubuntu used to really annoy me as it felt like it was always in beta rather than a full release.
I personally haven’t used arch in anger, but I have heard very positive things about it.

according to the mainstream press is purely the haunt of pedophiles and drug dealers?

Or an outlet for people living in oppressive regimes, whistleblowers and other such shenanigans. It’s not all nefarious.

Download TOR browser (from a legit source) and find a decent .onion (that’s the domain it resides in) list and away you go.

I don’t use it personally, but I see the good and bad in it.
