    Wow!! Some heated debate

I get why my Mrs is annoyed as it would probably be just us out of her family who can’t go as a complete unit. Hopefully she will tell her brother this weekend, as she has gone oop norf visiting her family with the kiddies.

At the end of the day the BIL and his Mrs are going there as it’s cheap for them to do it out there. That’s fine and I get that, as getting married can be expensive, but what isn’t fine is “if” and I mean “IF” we start to get guilt tripped about it all (I know what some of her family can be like).

The reason we got married in the Uk was that we appreciated the not everyone we wanted to be there would be able to afford it.

There are times I’m glad we live 80 miles away from them

The responses in this thread makes me feel better :)

I do think there is a lot of willy waving with weddings. Sis in law spent over £30k on her wedding (and boy did we know!!!), the marriage was over in less than 2 years. Only thing I was gutted about was that the string quartet didn’t know the Empire March from Star Wars

tells your kids they’re gonna be flower girls.

They’d need a sex change for that  I have 2 boys. But I know what you mean!!

just wack up the credit cards like everyone else in their desperate race to impress the rest of us and worry about it later.

    This genuinely made me

I am not a flash person and don’t live in a world of credit. I drive a 13 year old car and I’ve had that for 8 years, I don’t wear fancy clothes and I own a Boardman  .

TBH my Wife’s sister and brother are very materialistic and to be fair to them they can afford it. Where as we aren’t and would be in debt if we were. I have always ensured that we live within our means (how dull am I), but this doesn’t mean that we go without as a family.

Another example of out of touch, we got asked to go to Spain with them in a villa in May. Apparently it was really cheap (it was well over a grand!). In the August, we went to the Pembrokshire coast in a caravan for our holiday as that’s all we could afford and the kids bloody loved it (if they are happy then I am).

Plenty of good riding around Lake Garda.

I like your thinking. But there would be more chance of me growing an afro than getting any riding in.

I’d take a principled socialist who hasn’t abused his expenses privileges and who questions the sanity in sinking £160bn into nuclear weapons we’d be insane to use over that of a pig-molester anytime, especially when the porcine-prodder in question is letting big business get away with billions in unpaid taxes whilst blaming the state of the nation’s finances on the poor and the sick.

Thank you for that. I never knew this story and I am sure glad I do now. He is a true hero IMHO.

    What’s wrong with the 500L???

I’ve had this as have numerous mates who use them. I also have a set pf 2013/2014 105 pedals too and they weren’t as bad, but I didn’t ride them in rain and wintery conditions like the R540s.

I just accepted that a strip and grease every now and again would see me right.

Do they click too? As we all had that issue.

Well done on noticing there is a problem.

Having gone kaboom recently, I feel your pain.

Go to your Dr and speak to them, it’s tough but it was well worth it IMHO. They wanted me to go on anti-depressants, but I refused as I didn’t want to go down that road if it could be helped.
I now do therapy sessions, coupled with mindfulness and progressive muscle relaxation. I am in a better place now and feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I hope this helps, as you are not alone :)

I haven’t viewed any plebian moving imagery in my media room. I’ve been far too immersed in my own deep thoughts whilst fingering the spines of my many leather-bound books in the reading room.

    A bike scooter is a child’s toy ?

    Every day’s a school day.

Looks like it would be a fun way to commute RD. Go for it :)

Slightly OT, does anyone remember the BMX scooters from the late 80’s/early 90’s? They were ace fun.

If you want to DIY go to HSS, that mini karcher cleaner does suck a lot of the moisture out.

I almost bought a fixer upper this year. I am sooooooooooo glad I didn’t. I’ve bought a new build (3 years old and had someone in it who wanted to downsize). I’m glad I went this route, as with a young family I reckon I would have ended up in the loony bin

To be honest it might be worth checking your local Facebook pages. I got some local guy to clean my carpets properly. It cost a bit more than what a rug doctor and cleaning solution would cost. Did a spot on job too. FWIW he used the same type of cleaner HSS hire out, but he did all other kinds of pre-treatment stuff and the carpet was dry in a few hours. Rug Doctors drench them. Our communal area at work got rug doctored. The carpet went mouldy

Last year’s Christmas do was the first one I’ve been to in a while. It was really good, however that was due to the people who went to it. This year I’m not going as a. A proper one isn’t being organised and b. The “alternative one” is a night at the dogs and that isn’t my bag.

Ho, ho, ho, ho :D I’ll probably end up going for a curry with the good lads and lasses from work instead.

Just park this outside your house :D

Our little ones normally go out around the local estate with the Mrs, as it’s a bit of fun. They are going to a party this year though.
