Most AV solutions, when set up properly, aren’t nearly as bad as they are out of the box. Sadly, most AV solutions aren’t set up correctly.

agree 100%, ive used nearly all of them over the years and when setup properly most are fine. saying that NORTON was designed by the devil.

out of all of them avast is the best IMO.

agree with itunes, ahlf the time it takes 3 weeks to find my ipod.

sage ACT! i f*cking hate it, tried to train people on it over the years and ive nearly ended my life.

Arcserve used to be a b*arstard aswell, trying to link 5 tape machine with dodgy SCSI’s

Surfcontrol was a b*astard also, the email plug-in had many a late night with that.

XP is still the most stable version, have to laugh at half the sh*t they changed in Window 7, were they p*Ssed at the meeting.

A friend spent a week putting CDs on a computer to add to his iPod, then deleted the music, cos it was on his iPod, right? THen connected and synced and lost it all.

Oh of course; it’s the computer’s fault. Right. Ok. Yeah….

to be fair i know loads of people who have done the same thing, its not th emost intuative interface.

right you lot seems to know what you are on about…. i loved COD WAW not really into all the modern stuff… BUT…… is the best bit of BF the fact you can get 3 mates and then do missions online rather than just running round like a headless chickens (COD)?

    i hope that makes sense…

They promised they would make one great record then **** off. They did neither, and exist so that Chris Rea fans have something else to listen to.

..diagnosing why Exchange has keeled over at 2am, recovering failed RAID arrays, and finding the source of dropped packets is the hard part…

stop, your bringing back the nightmares!

well i had a quick meeting with the boss, gave him rough costs of SBS internal route and i nearly had to give him CPR.

anyway i said if you want it done you need proper geeks in as my skills have been lost and stuck in the 90’s.

IMO 21 users its not big enough for a dedicated internal SBS etc, i think first off is move from BT when the contract is up, they have been crap and too big for their boots.

( BEFORE I BEGIN I’M WELSH SO BIASED)

IMO virtually everything since the ‘Everything Must Go’ was/has been MOR tripe.

There have a been a few ok songs since, ‘if you tolerate this’ – ‘masses for the classes’ – ‘Intravenous Agnostic’

Generation terrorists is a classic first album, over the top, taking the p*ss teenage angst… (rose tinted specs on – showing my age)if you compare it to most young new bands in the last 10-15 years they could take a lesson from the album and it would blow them apart. some of the guitar work was beyond their years, yes they were young and their political views were a laugh but they stood out compared to some of the utter fekin shit that is around these days.

the holy bible was a totally messed up album but had some classics on there, their best album by far, the anger and hatred is amazing.

It has been sad to see them become fat old men, but i guess it happens to many bands in the end.

i think this song is their last and they will never come back (hopefully)

Thank you manics, had some good gigs, the old cardiff astoria gig when i nearly passed out when they played virtually the whole of the ‘holy bible’ and had to stop for the crowd to calm down, then Newport centre was a classic not long after Richie left…

    rose tinted spec off.

    good night

cheers guys great replies virtual pints for all of you!

We have file servers sorted and backups as from past experience ive been burnt here aswell so ive got backups of backups and its taken off site etc.

I think i can sway them not to have it in house (they will drop on the floor when i get prices), i do the technical sales and the IT on the side but i have to hold my hand up and say enough is enough at some point. I’m not going to fall into the trap and think i can do it myself, it would have to be outsourced.

    cheers

    cheers again…

think you have swayed me, i still have nightmares of 12 years ago where the registry got corrupted on an exchange server and 200 people shouting at me.

im still a bit confused with the hosted exchnage compared to our current set up and the benefits though?

    cheers all, excellent replies 🙂

now for my numptyness…. stay with me again please…. 😉

PG can you clarify as my minds not what it used to be..

i understand the hosted exchange is similar to in-house dedicated but what is the advantage over hosted exchange to our current outlook2010 > BT POP3? (im being dull i know!) is the hosted exchange simply IMAP not POP3 and the only real advantage over what we have is you Can check it at home? we can do this already as the BT business account has OWA and you can set the account to keep a copy on the server??

i have to be honest i dont want the hassle of looking after an internal server even though there are obvious benefits as my knowledge is limited, but i quite fancy giving it a go – i could probably just about set it up BUT when it comes to upkeep sorting problems could take a while and id have to cheat and sign up to ‘experts exchange’ 😉

then again i have a meeting later in the week and i know the MD will…

1 – Snort at the long term costs of ‘cloud’

2 – think in the long run it will be cheaper for me to look after it after the initial purchase of the bits n bobs.

‘if’ we went the internal hosted route am i correct in saying i’d need/do the following (basic laymans terms)-

1 – Entry level server with MS Server, say 4Gb RAM, RAID 1
2 – Copy of MS exchange (less faffing than SBS?)
3 – CALS for exchange? or do i need CALS for the server aswell?
4 – Suitable AV for the exchange server
5 – Our work domain is hosted by BT so this should make the MX record saga easier?
6 – Change everyones local outlook 2010 from POP3 to point at the server
7 – I would like to keep the PST’s local rather than on the server as less faffing but i guess that defeats the point of the exchange server slightly as they dont get backed up?

thats enough for now, don’t wont anyone opening a vein!

    cheers!

    Ummmmmmmm….

stay away from the 1.8 petrol, its crap MPG we had the same engine in a focus and it was just about getting 30mpg! and got shot of it.

get the 1.6 much less guts but better mpg.

wish we had gone for the c-max instead of the focus as i think we’d still have it.

cheers and thanks for the reply.

my biggest fear is coming in one day and everyone flipping out as there’s no email coming in, then spending god knows how long tyring to sort it.

a mate did suggest going to hosted gmail business i guess similar to hosted exchange,(he works for a large bluechip and they moved from exchange servers to gmail and saved millions), my worry here though is this will only be as good as our actual internet speed? as in everyone will have a browser open all day?

it’s been a while, stick with me.

am i right in saying if we did go down the SBS route, this takes BT out of the questions totally apart form still having them as our provider. that is INTERNAL mail will be instant’ish?

another problem we may have is that a few users in our contracts department currently send large email attachements (client drawings), i have looked at ‘dropbox’ etc (suggested on here) would this feature be part of hosted service? that is an intergrated file management feature.

the thing i love about hosted aswell is the fact theres no PST’s and all that nightmare!

i’ll stop there, im going off on one!

    cheers

thats wasnt the best one, the best one (if i didnt dream it) was the guy who posted a pic of himself wearing a new cycle top in the mirror and then posted “does this look a bit tight” he was being deadly serious!

i think he left in shame.

shop at aldi’s, it really is not as bad as it is made out (apart fomr meat and veg), far better than asda and tesco IMO

another big one is to work out each meal for every night of the week and write a shopping list and stick to it.

making your own lunch is a big one for me
if you can get into the routine of making it the night before saves hassle

we do this and you save shed loads.

get rid of one car (if you have two) you’d be amazed ho wmuch you save, its fekin hard work mind at the start.

Powell certainly got the shit kicked out of him by some football fans a while back.

    ACTUALLY…

from a reliable source i might add.

footie fans kept on at him, he was calm and collected, and decided to leave the pub. on the way out they shouted severe abuse, he took about 3 guys out then one lad smashed a bar stool over his head.

top bloke but dull as a box of frogs

it all went downhill after san andreas….

great games but it does get boring.

im about halfway through ‘dead island’ and to be honest its ok but as i said to a mate “its all very GTA”..

go and talk to blah blah, blah blah tells you to go to blah and get blah, then go across half the map and kill blah..

same with red dead, after a while they do get boring…. i guess were spoilt these days.

what do i know, need to dig out the amiga 😉

No he couldn’t – he had a French player coming to cut him off. As Phillips is quoted earlier in the thread – he did his job, it was up to the kicker to do their’s. Stephen Jones has been so reliable over the years, there was no excuse for a man of his experience to miss that kick.

i totally understand what you are saying and jones should have slotted it over and so should have hook with those two pens.

    BUT in general rugby terms….

even if you know you have a guy on the opposing team coming over, even if you were going to head to the posts and even if he did tackle you chances are you could still ground the ball?

    monkey_boy
    Free Member

    still bickering, FFS!

i love rugby, lots of you on here know more than me… but as pointed out above..

and why didn’t Phillips go nearer to the posts?

can somebody explain why players when going over for a try dont try and get nearer he posts? yes i understand if your right on the sideline near the flag and dive over you aint got much chance.

but like philips try against france he could have easily run further up towards the posts? yes you have opposing players running near you but jaysus little bit more effort or is the order to “get the ball down” regardless?
