Mmmm, could go super gravity by schwalbe? Sounds like the same sort of thing. Perhaps magic mary front vertstar and hans dampf rear trail star. Both tubeless…

Apologies, tyre it is. English is my second language…. (Tire must be US then).

I only weight 60kg (not sure what that is in stone ;0) not hard on tyres, but would like to run low pressures. Had hans dampf/myddy Mary folding last year but had few flats in the rear tyre on about 28 psi, incl a pinch flat. Last year was with tubes, looking to go tubeless this time.

    Thanks guys.

I am Dutch and go back home a lot. More cycle routes/paths/bridges are being added all the time. I’d say the uk is about 30 years behind when it comes to cycle infrastructure. My kids love being out on my mums bikes over there.

They also don’t seem to get pot holes….so I suppose it can’t really be the weather’s fault like they claim here. The roads over there are great.

All comes down to money in the end, my sister does pay about 100 euros per MONTH road tax for a 2006 C4.

OP that’s amazing! Great example of how to make something look much LESS than the sum of its parts. I generally try to create the opposite.

My sister has a similar talent when it comes to interior design, a master at making a room full of quite nice things look rubbish.

    Bless!

Just back from visiting the family in holland, lots of my mums friends now have bikes like that, low instep aimed at older, less mobile people (although I have only seen ladies use them).

My Dutch mum (63), would not be seen dead on one!

But yep, generally Dutch bikes are great, my 11 and 13 year old loved riding around on grandmas bikes! Once they had mastered riding one of those very heavy beasts (that were far too big for them). Push back brakes and large wooden basket on the handle bars did not help.

    richpips – same here.

My 12 year old has just started cycling it school (norwich city centre), after recently taking his level 3 bikeability (we did that together). He is great on a MTB, but can be a little dozy near the road. The course really helped, he can deal with many things he could not before, but has also discovered his own limitations. He will use the pedestrian crossing on the last multi lane roundabout near school (out or choice).

He has also been tought the alternative right turn major to minor (he probably would use that on the junction in the clip), stop on the left and turn when all is clear. You are very vulnerable when sitting in the middle of the road. I have told him to only use a signal right turn if he anticipates that he can keep moving.

Still the drivers fault of course…..

Re the paint, I always use dulux soft sheen wall paint. Have done for about 15 years, but I think you can now only get it if you have it mixed trade (they have replaced it with their endurance Matt, that is crap). This paint I can wash down, clean marks off with cif (carefully), and reprint bits that have been knocked and filled years later (with it drying exactly the same colour).

I do think lots of other wall paint is nowhere near as easy to live with.

I’d say, get a tin of dulux soft sheen and repaint.

Nice appartment in a chalet in morzine. Stayed there last year, great price and close to both lifts (50m from super morzine bubble). Clean, very good agents, for up to 9 people 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Ski storage just outside the front door.

I am 5’5″ with long ish legs and ride a 15.5″ cove stiffee hardtail with a layback/off set seat post and 60 stem. Perfect fit for me. Had a 15.5″ cove hustler full Susser which was also a perfect fit. Had a 16″ orange 5 that was too long in the top tube (even with 50mm stem), but a 14″ orange 5 felt tiny.

I have 2 boys, that are a little shorter and they both ride 15.5″ frames. Short top tubes seems to be the most important thing for me (and growing kids). Avoid on one frames, long top tubes (my son had one), spesh rock hoppers are good.

We also own a 15.5″ rockhopper and a 15.5″ cove handjob you could come and try for size. We are in norwich and ride Thetford if you wasn’t to give our 26″ wheeled hard tails a go.

I don’t have a dog, but can’t you just make sure the dog does not have access to the front door when the mail is delivered? Just put him in a different room and shut the door? Or am I missing something here? If it was my house I would simply out the dog in either the kitchen or lounge or dining room and shut the door….. Perhaps I really am missing something.

Or just get the dog to stay with a friend for a day and see what happens to the mail.

Some vredestein stow trac here, 3 rd year now as 6-7mm left. Bought another set of used wheels for our zafira and just swap wheels. Tyres have been great from the start, £89 from my tyres each from memory.

My dad in holland has been running winter tyres every year for at least 25 years! He stores the spares wheels at the tyre place for a small fee. Lost of people I’m holland do. He swears by vredesteins….

My husband had some Nokian winter tyres on his driving tuition car in the past, will ask him how he got on when he gets home.

We have a norco b line 24, heavily upgraded and now a nice bike:

We also had a kona stinky 24, built from frame only, turned out lighter than the norco, but is smaller. Now sold sadly.

Some German brands also do kids freeride bikes, not cheap though.

Or just get a 26″ frame and put smaller wheels on it if needed.

Sounds like hydro lock, mine had this. All sorted now, and I think they did a bit of a mod to make it less likely to happen in the future. Good forks though, worth sorting.

I’d say too heavy and too long in the top tube. Will make it hard for him to jump. Top tube main issue with small 26″ kids bikes. I have built a few for my boys (now 10 and 12) and they prefer to ride/jump the one with the shortest top tube.

    Small rockhopper frames work well.

My oldest is now 153cm and now just fits on a small stiffee, which he loves.

    Keep looking I’d say …

Small spesh rockhopper frame. Great comfy frames, my son started on a 13.5″ one at age 9. He now has a 15″ (womens) rockhopper frame (the older ones don’t look girly). Women’s frames are good for kids as they have a short top tube.

Bought the first frame of eBay for about £28, second one came from the classifieds, wasn’t much more.

We use 170 cranks, seem ok. 165 with 68bb is a bit hard to get. I think bikediscount may have some deore ones.

Also used 80mm rockshox duke air forks on the first frame (£50), we have 100mm Magyars on his current frame.

    Good luck!

We had a race bmx for our sons, but also owned a 16″ wheeled mongoose pit crew (not a race bmx). Nice bike, proper bmx, not really light though.

Perhaps check them out, not sure if they still do them.

Should not matter. Our machine is 10 years old, used to wash nappies in it. Anything muddy I will put straight into the machine and put it on a cold rinse first. Then wash as normal. This really gets all the mud/stains out. Has never caused any trouble with our machine.

NO! You would never forgive yourself!

We were involved in an unavoidable (by us) crash in which the other driver died (travelling 60-80mph in a 30 zone, wrong side of the road, hitting us head on). My kids are only alive today because they were strapped in correctly, and we were only travelling 25 mph. This happened around the corner from our own home. Could happen to anyone, any time.

Miele, if it survives me using it, it must be indestructible! Had it about 8 years now.

Regularly falls down the stairs, used several times a day……

Recently dropped the nozzle in a bucket of water when cleaning the car…when it was on 😯

Left it to dry and still works fine….

We spent £1600 all in (incl everything we spent) for a family of 4 last year during half term in haute nendaz Switzerland. We drive, and don’t take lessons and bring our own kit. Lessons we take at our local ski club, they are “free” as I volunteer at the bar. Kit is mostly bought used for the kids and then sold on. Some of our kit is new, but lasts years. 2 of us just ski, 2 ski and board.

We booked late (December) last year as well. We get an apartment (not a really small one) and self cater. We normally have lunch/Coffee and cake on the mountain.

Booked morzine for next year, week before half term as holland/Paris/uk all share holiday this year. Booked a large 9 person Appartment for 1100 euro for the week. Near both lifts. We will share with few other people (hopefully), so next years trip should not be too badly priced either.

    Good luck and enjoy!

We have always taken the kids away during holidays, until we started skiing (no we are not rich! Lessons free as I volunteer at the local club and hols £1600 all in for the 4 of us). We went half term last year. Coming winter however the half term of holland, Paris area of France and the uk all fall in the same week! Why can’t the eu coordinate this a bit better?? Traffic will be a compete nightmare! Easter not really as much of an option as it’s really late 2014.

I would never dream of taking the kids out of school summer time (you get about 6.5 weeks!), but you are a little limited when it comes to winter sports. I hope in the future the eu will look into this so holidays can be staggered over February and march a bit better then they are at the moment (although this really changes every year, coming winter is just a bad one).

Coming winter we are going the week before half term. Was already booked last February, with the agreement of my youngest sons head teacher. She explained we will this year get a letter explaining its unauthorised (I accordance with the new rules), but she will probably write “have a good holiday” on it.
