I can understand why the OP is annoyed, but it sounds to me like a mix-up on behalf of the shopkeeper. I guess I find it hard to believe that the proprietor of an established business would risk damage to his reputation for £24.

Yes, Romania FTW! Never thought I’d have cause to type that.

How aggravating, it seems that he just doesn’t really know what he’s on about. I recommend he just takes the bike to his lbs. He got a great price for the brakes so far as I can see.

I run 2012 (I think – could be 2011) Rev RLs at 110 and they work well. I could have gone down to 100 but for some reason didn’t put the extra spacer in – I think I was slightly put off by how many it looked like when they were in place. When I can be arsed to service them I’ll probably chuck the last spacer in and run them at 100.

My Superstar one lasted 2 or three rides before it developed play and grittiness.

Wish I could get my front brake working that well!

I find the mtb feels a bit slow and sluggish if I’ve been riding the road bike a lot, but I soon readjust to it. Dunno if that’s what you mean?

    World class! Thanks for sharing.

I run one on the front, weigh 11 stone and inflate it to approx 22 psi. Ralph at the back I run at around 25 psi. On harder surfaces I can feel them squirm a bit leaning into fast corners so occasionally run them a bit firmer depending on where I’m riding.

Can’t say I’d recommend Aspens if it’s flinty – as great as they are.

When my first SS conversion did that it was due to the chain wrap, and with a 15t I reckon this could still be a possibility so would recommend checking. It drove me mad till I sussed it out (with help from peeps on here!)

It looks really cool, although not sure I could stay perched on your saddle! Did you measure your chainline? It looks a bit out in that last photo (although could just be an illusion). I also suspect you will find that you need a tensioner (as I did!).

Find mine (2.25 evo) a total winner on the front with a Ralph at the back. Run them tubeless and fairly soft at 24psi ish.

When I was in the US a few years back I very nearly bought a Yeti ASR5 full build as it would have worked out a great deal cheaper than over here, even with shipping etc. I would have gotten a member of my family (American) to send it on for me afterwards. The guy in the shop had no problem with this.

    Apologies for the dreary anecdote.

Mine lasted only a couple of months as above. The current sram team gxp is lasting very well for me.

I pedal a high cadence and am looking for a 28t single ring set up on a 29er too. It’s looking most likely as though a Sram crank with bling ring is possibly the way forward. Does anybody know anywhere that you can actually get the blingrings from in the UK? And does anybody jnow if the latest X7 cranks are compatible/ (sorry for slight hijack)

I’ve nothing at all against Halfords and I’m sure they’ll put a lot of effort into doing a good job. But in the UK at least, this must be commercial suicide for an aspirational brand like Pinarello?!

Oooh, had given up on this thread. Thanks for the feedback, just what I was after. Has anyone tried those exotic forks from ebay? Will I die?

    EDIT – I see Cupra has…!

..and I mean axle to crown length which I believe is 44.5cm with these forks… It’s been a long day….

145 is actual, so equivalent to about 100mm I would guess? I run the Dialled singlespeed and would like to simplify it further and reduce maintenance to the absolute minimum. Not too worried by the lack of suspension, I just don’t want the handling to go silly sharp.

I’m probably gonna jump on the one singletrackmind linked to, but can anyone recommend a reasonable mount for it? (sorry to derail slightly).

That is a lovely bike. Out of interest, which chain ring is that?

You will need something like a bit of pipe or spacer to slip over the spindle. I couldn’t find anything quite right and was in a rush, so used a zip tie. It’s not 100% ideal as the head of the tie protrudes more than the rest of it, but it does work adequately until I can be bothered to change it.

p.s. I wouldn’t give up just yet, they’re pretty good cranks in the end!

Strange. I hope you get it sorted. It does sound like poor facing might have been involved with the early failures, but I can’t really add any more re. the seal migrating outwards. I also found that the XR had poor life, but the Team seems much better, but with this annoying issue. Strange that you get play in the cranks when the seal comes out though… I don’t get that. There is a tiny bit of play in the system, but I do mean a really small amount. It has been that way for ages but runs quite smoothly and bearings seem good. I do have to do the crank pretty tight – I usually need a tap on the end of the allen key with a mallet to get it going.

Personally I don’t think the issue is with the facing of your bottom bracket, but I’m no expert. I’m betting the problem is only with the team cups? I’m guessing you didn’t have the problem with the xr ones? I only have this specific problem when using the Team BB with an older stylo crank. I feel sure the axle design has changed slightly.

Bearing life on my current team BB has been excellent, even with the bodge.

Is the bit you are referring to the black plastic top hat? Is it the original bottom bracket? I have this issue with my GXP system, but believe it is down to a new design bottom bracket being used with the older cranks. With use the seal migrates outwards onto the axle. I have bodged/fixed it by putting a small ziptie at the end of the axle to hold the seal in place. I think the problem is that the axle design of the new cranks must have changed slightly.

It looks great, especially for what you paid. I would have to do something about the angle of those brake levers though!
